Chapter 29

From a Vampire's Brother to a Human's Mate (Book 2: Completed)

Tony’s POV

“Tony, for only a week or so she is showing great progress. Her deeper bruises are already fading and her bones have set, yet they are not completely healed. They are still weak, but it is very promising,” Doc smiled at me hopefully and then turned back to Dawn and continued to check her wounds.

“Are her eyes open, Doc?” I asked as I stood at the end of the bed with my arms crossed.

“Well, no but . . .”

“Is she showing any signs of consciousness?” I asked more plainly.

“No, but, Tony . . .”

“Then that is not great progress,” I growled and walked to the balcony and looked over the training yard were Travis was working with His father training the younger pups.

“Tony, don’t give up hope . . .”

“Doc, I’m not giving up hope,” I turned to him. “I’m just irritated. My dad has begun to step down. I feel it now and I feel when I am talking to him. He is giving power over to me. He will not use the Alpha tone on me and he won’t look me in the eye any more. Him finding out that my mom is pregnant was is sign that it is my time to be Alpha. I need to be with my people. I need to reassure them that I am mentally able to be there for them,” I sighed and walked back to Dawn.

“They know this. I know this. Tony, you have shown more Alpha traits then your father ever did at your age,” Doc smiled.

“At my age my father already had a mate an heir and a major battle under his belt. He saved our people and the vampires from the Hunters, at my age. And you are telling me I am more Alpha than he is?” I scoffed and looked over Dawn.

“Stop being so hard on yourself, Tony. You are forgetting that is only after his father died forcing him to become Alpha. Until days before then he was an arrogant, spoiled brat,” Doc shook his head.

I laughed, “That’s hard to see.”

“It was your mother who made him the way he is today. That is all you are lacking. A strong mate,” He patted the bed beside Dawn. “When she wakes up, you will tell her everything, you will claim her and then you will become the Alpha you need to be. Have faith in yourself, Tony. Everyone else does,” He smiled.

“Thanks, Doc,” I nodded. “I will call you up if there is any change.”

“Alright, Stay strong,” He nodded and then walked out.

Just as it was about to close it was push open and a sweaty Travis barged in with a few of the strong, younger fighters.

“Hey, guys,” I smiled at them.

“Hey, Tony,” Travis walked in.

“We picked a few flowers for her,” Alex one of the most vicious fighters I knew walked in holding a bouquet of purple and white flowers.

I laughed at the sight, “Thank you,” I nodded to the vase signaling that it was okay for him to approach her.

He smiled and bowed his head and then walked up replacing the dead ones with the fresh ones and then stepping away again. He tossed the dead flowers at the rest of the guys.

“Hey, what the hell!” They complained and threw them back.

“Hey, hey, hey,” I calmly got there attention.

They all stopped and looked to me.

“Don’t make a mess. Take it out side,” I ordered. They nodded and jogged away pushing and shoving each other playfully.

“So?” Travis stepped up to me and looked to Dawn.

“She is healing well. Her bruises are almost all gone and he bones have set, but they are still weak,” I repeated what Doc told me.

“But she still won’t wake up?” He sighed.

I shook my head.

“Doc says she will heal better this way, but I just want to see her eyes open again. It’s killing to sit here and watch her like this,” I sighed.

“That’s what I came up her for,” Travis turned to me.

“Yes?” I turned to him as well.

“I think you should come train for a while. Get some of your built up energy let loose. You haven’t slept well in days because you hardly ever move. You need to go work out with the rest of us. Show the pups how to really fight,” He smiled and teasingly punched my arm.

I smiled back and then shook my head.

“Come on, Anthony. I am not asking you to go to the other side of the world. I am asked you to take a step out of the house,” He complained.

“I don’t want her waking up alone in here. I can’t take that chance,” I sighed.

“Julie and Hannah will stay in here with her. Everyone agrees you need to get out of this room. Face it, Tony. As soon as Dawn is up and moving we are going after Ian. You haven’t fought in a days. You need to keep your strength up,” Travis spoke sense, but something else was nagging at my mind.

“There is something about Hannah,” I sighed. I had been fighting myself. Felix had just found a good girl who made him good. I really didn’t want to ruin that, but something about her was bothering me.

“What?” Travis asked confused and the turn in the conversation.

“That night,” I breathed. “I was completely out of control,” I admitted. “No one would have been able to calm my wolf. Not even my own mother. The only thing that would have calmed me would have been Dawn. But Hannah . . .”

“Hannah walked right up and got you into your right state of mind,” Travis understood.

“It was weird. I calmed right down. No one should have that kind of power over an Alpha. No one,” I growled.

“I understand, but what do you think . . . I mean what are you going to do. Felix . . .”

“I know. Can you get Felix in here please?” I sat down at the edge of the bed where I usually sat.

“Yeah, okay,” Travis turned and walked out.

I looked to Dawn and sighed, grabbing her hand.

“Tony?” I heard Felix asked stepping into the room.

“Hey,” I stood up and looked to him.

“What’s up? Travis said this was about Hannah?” He said confused.

“Yeah, is there anything about her that you would like to tell me about? Something I don’t already know?” I asked as Travis walked in.

“What are you talking about?” He raised an eyebrow at me.

“I am talking about the fact that she was able to control my wolf. She calmed me down, when I was in a state that I shouldn’t have calmed down from. I was an Alpha going for the kill . . . but she stopped me,” I shook my head.

“So? She mentioned your mate and you instantly relaxed,” He shrugged.

“You don’t understand, Felix. She shouldn’t have been able to do that. Even I thought it was weird,” Travis stepped forward.

“I know nothing about it! Why are you assuming there is something wrong with her?” He growled glaring from me to Travis.

“Felix, I am not saying something is wrong with her. Trust me, I don’t want anything it be off with her either. I mean you are finally happy and . . .”

“And you just have to go and ruin it don’t you!” Felix complained.

“Stop getting so defensive,” Travis growled. “This is a safety precaution! No one should be able to control an Alpha like that.”

“Okay, well, I know nothing about it!” He snapped.

“Stop, all of you,” The door opened and Hannah walked through. “Don’t get mad,” She looked to Felix. “He knew nothing,” She sighed.

“Knew nothing? What are you talking about? Hannah, don’t listen to them . . .”

“Felix, you don’t need to protect me,” She sighed. “Listen, I don’t use my power unless I am desperate. I thought our situation was pretty desperate. We needed you in your right mind, Tony,” She explained.

“What are you talking about?” Travis said more confused.

“Hannah, what is this? What powers?” Felix said stepping up to her.

“You’re a witch,” I sighed now that it all clicked.

“Yes,” She breathed even though I wasn’t asking.

“No!” Travis gasped.

“No way!” Felix snapped.

“Yes, I am,” She turned to Felix.

“That’s why you were so understanding when I told you!” He growled. “You already knew everything!”

“I had a hunch, but I wasn’t sure,” She sighed. “Please don’t be angry . . .”

“Don’t be angry?” He laughed without humor, “I told you I was a damn vampire! Your best friend admitted that she was part wolf . . . you didn’t think that was the opportune time to inform us that you were a damn witch!” He snapped at her.

“Felix, don’t,” I grabbed Hannah and pulled her away from him. “She didn’t want to tell you. That was her information to share. You can’t expect her to just spill her every secret because you spilt yours,” I shook my head.

“I showed her I trusted her . . . The only thing this shows me is that she doesn’t trust me,” He shook his head.

“Felix, I trust you . . . I just didn’t want to put you in any kind of position. Your father used witches for his own gain. Yes, some were his friends , but most were not. When I realize what you were . . . who you were. I freaked out,” She sighed. “I just . . . I just wanted you to see me for me and not for my powers and my uses,” She sighed looking at the ground.

“You think I would do that?” The anger drained from him and he looked hurt.

“Yes . . . No, I mean . . . Felix I didn’t know you . . . I didn’t know how you would react . . . I . . .”

“I’m sorry, I can’t,” He backed away from her and walked out the door.

“Felix, I’m sorry,” She stepped after him.

“I wouldn’t ,” I stopped her.

“There is nothing you can say that will change him right now,” Travis sighed.

“He just needs a moment to think things over,” I explained. “Listen I am sorry that I forced this out of you. I was just concerned. The way you controlled me . . .”

“No, don’t. It’s okay. And if it would put you at ease . . . I did not control you,” She smiled up at me. “I can’t do that, but I do have a strong affinity for animals. I . . . convinced  your wolf to let you take control to take care of Dawn.” She explained.

“Oh, well, that seems a lot better than mind control,” I smiled.

“Yes,” She sighed, “I guess so.”

“Let me go talk to Felix. Maybe if he understands . . .”Travis started.

“No, I screwed up. I will talk to him. Don’t worry,” She sighed.

“You didn’t screw up, Hannah. You did what your instinct told you to do. I would not expect anything more from anyone. What I would do is go talk to Julie before Felix blows up on her. She will want to hear it from you not from anyone else,” I nodded.

“That’s sounds like a good idea,” She smiled, “Thank you.”

“I will come with you and help you out,” Travis patted her shoulder.

“Yeah, I might need it,” She nodded. “When we are done, we’ll come back with Julie and then you can go out and train and relax while Julie and I watch over her,” Hannah smiled.

“Thank you, but take your time. I am not in any rush,” I sighed and looked to Dawn.

“Yeah, we know,” Travis sighed and then they both walked out.

I sat down again and smiled at Dawn.

I kissed her hand, “I miss you so much, Dawn,” I breathed. “When you wake up I am going to kiss you so hard, your head will spin,” I laughed at myself.

But then the best thing happened.

Take in a deep breath Dawn’s eyes fluttered open.

My breath caught in my chest as I became completely paralyzed.

“Tony?” She breathed.
