Chapter 29
From a Vampire's Brother to a Human's Mate (Book 2: Completed)
Tonyâs POV
âTony, for only a week or so she is showing great progress. Her deeper bruises are already fading and her bones have set, yet they are not completely healed. They are still weak, but it is very promising,â Doc smiled at me hopefully and then turned back to Dawn and continued to check her wounds.
âAre her eyes open, Doc?â I asked as I stood at the end of the bed with my arms crossed.
âWell, no but . . .â
âIs she showing any signs of consciousness?â I asked more plainly.
âNo, but, Tony . . .â
âThen that is not great progress,â I growled and walked to the balcony and looked over the training yard were Travis was working with His father training the younger pups.
âTony, donât give up hope . . .â
âDoc, Iâm not giving up hope,â I turned to him. âIâm just irritated. My dad has begun to step down. I feel it now and I feel when I am talking to him. He is giving power over to me. He will not use the Alpha tone on me and he wonât look me in the eye any more. Him finding out that my mom is pregnant was is sign that it is my time to be Alpha. I need to be with my people. I need to reassure them that I am mentally able to be there for them,â I sighed and walked back to Dawn.
âThey know this. I know this. Tony, you have shown more Alpha traits then your father ever did at your age,â Doc smiled.
âAt my age my father already had a mate an heir and a major battle under his belt. He saved our people and the vampires from the Hunters, at my age. And you are telling me I am more Alpha than he is?â I scoffed and looked over Dawn.
âStop being so hard on yourself, Tony. You are forgetting that is only after his father died forcing him to become Alpha. Until days before then he was an arrogant, spoiled brat,â Doc shook his head.
I laughed, âThatâs hard to see.â
âIt was your mother who made him the way he is today. That is all you are lacking. A strong mate,â He patted the bed beside Dawn. âWhen she wakes up, you will tell her everything, you will claim her and then you will become the Alpha you need to be. Have faith in yourself, Tony. Everyone else does,â He smiled.
âThanks, Doc,â I nodded. âI will call you up if there is any change.â
âAlright, Stay strong,â He nodded and then walked out.
Just as it was about to close it was push open and a sweaty Travis barged in with a few of the strong, younger fighters.
âHey, guys,â I smiled at them.
âHey, Tony,â Travis walked in.
âWe picked a few flowers for her,â Alex one of the most vicious fighters I knew walked in holding a bouquet of purple and white flowers.
I laughed at the sight, âThank you,â I nodded to the vase signaling that it was okay for him to approach her.
He smiled and bowed his head and then walked up replacing the dead ones with the fresh ones and then stepping away again. He tossed the dead flowers at the rest of the guys.
âHey, what the hell!â They complained and threw them back.
âHey, hey, hey,â I calmly got there attention.
They all stopped and looked to me.
âDonât make a mess. Take it out side,â I ordered. They nodded and jogged away pushing and shoving each other playfully.
âSo?â Travis stepped up to me and looked to Dawn.
âShe is healing well. Her bruises are almost all gone and he bones have set, but they are still weak,â I repeated what Doc told me.
âBut she still wonât wake up?â He sighed.
I shook my head.
âDoc says she will heal better this way, but I just want to see her eyes open again. Itâs killing to sit here and watch her like this,â I sighed.
âThatâs what I came up her for,â Travis turned to me.
âYes?â I turned to him as well.
âI think you should come train for a while. Get some of your built up energy let loose. You havenât slept well in days because you hardly ever move. You need to go work out with the rest of us. Show the pups how to really fight,â He smiled and teasingly punched my arm.
I smiled back and then shook my head.
âCome on, Anthony. I am not asking you to go to the other side of the world. I am asked you to take a step out of the house,â He complained.
âI donât want her waking up alone in here. I canât take that chance,â I sighed.
âJulie and Hannah will stay in here with her. Everyone agrees you need to get out of this room. Face it, Tony. As soon as Dawn is up and moving we are going after Ian. You havenât fought in a days. You need to keep your strength up,â Travis spoke sense, but something else was nagging at my mind.
âThere is something about Hannah,â I sighed. I had been fighting myself. Felix had just found a good girl who made him good. I really didnât want to ruin that, but something about her was bothering me.
âWhat?â Travis asked confused and the turn in the conversation.
âThat night,â I breathed. âI was completely out of control,â I admitted. âNo one would have been able to calm my wolf. Not even my own mother. The only thing that would have calmed me would have been Dawn. But Hannah . . .â
âHannah walked right up and got you into your right state of mind,â Travis understood.
âIt was weird. I calmed right down. No one should have that kind of power over an Alpha. No one,â I growled.
âI understand, but what do you think . . . I mean what are you going to do. Felix . . .â
âI know. Can you get Felix in here please?â I sat down at the edge of the bed where I usually sat.
âYeah, okay,â Travis turned and walked out.
I looked to Dawn and sighed, grabbing her hand.
âTony?â I heard Felix asked stepping into the room.
âHey,â I stood up and looked to him.
âWhatâs up? Travis said this was about Hannah?â He said confused.
âYeah, is there anything about her that you would like to tell me about? Something I donât already know?â I asked as Travis walked in.
âWhat are you talking about?â He raised an eyebrow at me.
âI am talking about the fact that she was able to control my wolf. She calmed me down, when I was in a state that I shouldnât have calmed down from. I was an Alpha going for the kill . . . but she stopped me,â I shook my head.
âSo? She mentioned your mate and you instantly relaxed,â He shrugged.
âYou donât understand, Felix. She shouldnât have been able to do that. Even I thought it was weird,â Travis stepped forward.
âI know nothing about it! Why are you assuming there is something wrong with her?â He growled glaring from me to Travis.
âFelix, I am not saying something is wrong with her. Trust me, I donât want anything it be off with her either. I mean you are finally happy and . . .â
âAnd you just have to go and ruin it donât you!â Felix complained.
âStop getting so defensive,â Travis growled. âThis is a safety precaution! No one should be able to control an Alpha like that.â
âOkay, well, I know nothing about it!â He snapped.
âStop, all of you,â The door opened and Hannah walked through. âDonât get mad,â She looked to Felix. âHe knew nothing,â She sighed.
âKnew nothing? What are you talking about? Hannah, donât listen to them . . .â
âFelix, you donât need to protect me,â She sighed. âListen, I donât use my power unless I am desperate. I thought our situation was pretty desperate. We needed you in your right mind, Tony,â She explained.
âWhat are you talking about?â Travis said more confused.
âHannah, what is this? What powers?â Felix said stepping up to her.
âYouâre a witch,â I sighed now that it all clicked.
âYes,â She breathed even though I wasnât asking.
âNo!â Travis gasped.
âNo way!â Felix snapped.
âYes, I am,â She turned to Felix.
âThatâs why you were so understanding when I told you!â He growled. âYou already knew everything!â
âI had a hunch, but I wasnât sure,â She sighed. âPlease donât be angry . . .â
âDonât be angry?â He laughed without humor, âI told you I was a damn vampire! Your best friend admitted that she was part wolf . . . you didnât think that was the opportune time to inform us that you were a damn witch!â He snapped at her.
âFelix, donât,â I grabbed Hannah and pulled her away from him. âShe didnât want to tell you. That was her information to share. You canât expect her to just spill her every secret because you spilt yours,â I shook my head.
âI showed her I trusted her . . . The only thing this shows me is that she doesnât trust me,â He shook his head.
âFelix, I trust you . . . I just didnât want to put you in any kind of position. Your father used witches for his own gain. Yes, some were his friends , but most were not. When I realize what you were . . . who you were. I freaked out,â She sighed. âI just . . . I just wanted you to see me for me and not for my powers and my uses,â She sighed looking at the ground.
âYou think I would do that?â The anger drained from him and he looked hurt.
âYes . . . No, I mean . . . Felix I didnât know you . . . I didnât know how you would react . . . I . . .â
âIâm sorry, I canât,â He backed away from her and walked out the door.
âFelix, Iâm sorry,â She stepped after him.
âI wouldnât ,â I stopped her.
âThere is nothing you can say that will change him right now,â Travis sighed.
âHe just needs a moment to think things over,â I explained. âListen I am sorry that I forced this out of you. I was just concerned. The way you controlled me . . .â
âNo, donât. Itâs okay. And if it would put you at ease . . . I did not control you,â She smiled up at me. âI canât do that, but I do have a strong affinity for animals. I . . . convinced your wolf to let you take control to take care of Dawn.â She explained.
âOh, well, that seems a lot better than mind control,â I smiled.
âYes,â She sighed, âI guess so.â
âLet me go talk to Felix. Maybe if he understands . . .âTravis started.
âNo, I screwed up. I will talk to him. Donât worry,â She sighed.
âYou didnât screw up, Hannah. You did what your instinct told you to do. I would not expect anything more from anyone. What I would do is go talk to Julie before Felix blows up on her. She will want to hear it from you not from anyone else,â I nodded.
âThatâs sounds like a good idea,â She smiled, âThank you.â
âI will come with you and help you out,â Travis patted her shoulder.
âYeah, I might need it,â She nodded. âWhen we are done, weâll come back with Julie and then you can go out and train and relax while Julie and I watch over her,â Hannah smiled.
âThank you, but take your time. I am not in any rush,â I sighed and looked to Dawn.
âYeah, we know,â Travis sighed and then they both walked out.
I sat down again and smiled at Dawn.
I kissed her hand, âI miss you so much, Dawn,â I breathed. âWhen you wake up I am going to kiss you so hard, your head will spin,â I laughed at myself.
But then the best thing happened.
Take in a deep breath Dawnâs eyes fluttered open.
My breath caught in my chest as I became completely paralyzed.
âTony?â She breathed.
