The Oceans Call
"Charlie, that is the coolest sand castle I have ever seen." I say walking onto the beach from the water. Charlie looks up at me and smiles. I pick up one of the little shovels and start digging the sand.
"Hey hey hey! There's no helping the contestant!" Everest yells.
"He's little!"
"No way! If you help him, Everest gets to help me!" Grace says.
"I mean that sounds fare." Everest says.
"Fine! Charlie and I are still gonna win! Let's do this Charlie." We both start digging and building up more on the sand castle.
"Well this looks fun. Sand castles in the dark?" Danny asks.
"Danno!" Charlie says as he runs over to give Danny a hug.
"It wasn't dark when we started." I say.
"Danno! Come help Everest and I beat Brook and Charlie!"
"No way! Three against two?" I say.
"No it's not. Steve's here." Danny said.
"Uncle Steve's here? I changed my mind. I want uncle Steve on our team!" Grace says.
"Excuse me?" Danny asks. Steve comes around the corner of the house laughing. "No. Huh uh. You get me on your team and we are going to beat Steve. Let's do this."
"You? You are going to beat me?"
"That is what I said."
"I want Steve. We get Steve." I say.
"Oh I'm sure you do."
"Shut your mouth. Would you shut your mouth?" Steve says to Danny. Steve walks over to Charlie and I and starts helping us. "Alright, Charlie, you go fill these buckets with sand, I'm gonna start digging a little path down to the water, trust me, we're so gonna beat your dad."
"Yeah! Okay!" Charlie picks up a couple buckets and starts filling them with sand and then bringing them back to me. We started building the sand up to make a...castle? Yes.. it will be.
About twenty minutes later we decided we were finish. "Oh this is the winner for sure." Steve says looking at the sand castle. We built a little moat around it and it had a couple levels with a little flag that Charlie made.
"Alright. We're done!" Grace says. Charlie looks over at their sand castle and looks back down at ours.
"What's up buddy?" I ask him.
"There's is cooler then ours."
"What?! No it's not!" Steve says putting his hand on Charlie's back.
"You know what I think? I think they're both winners. These are equally as amazing." Everest says.
"I think he's right." I say.
"Yeah?"
"For sure buddy."
"Alright. Well it is past all of our bedtimes I think, what do you think kids?" Danny says.
"Yeah." Charlie and Grace say at the same time.
"I agree. I'm exhausted." I say. We all stand up from the sand castles and I pick Charlie up and put him on my hip. We all walk inside so the kids can grab their stuff.
"Danno?" Charlie says running over to Danny.
"Yeah buddy?"
"Can we come over to Brooklyn's house all the time?" His words caused Danny and I to let out a little laugh.
"We will have to see. I know she's got a lot going on too."
"Tell you what buddy, just have your dad call me next time you want to come over and I will work something out. Okay?"
"Yaay!"
"Thanks again for watching them today. I didn't have anywhere else for them to go." Danny says to me.
"Of course. You're kids are great Danny."
"Thank you. Yes, they're uhh. They're pretty great." He says looking down at them and smiles. "Alright. You chumps ready to go?"
"Yeah." Grace says already half way out the door.
"Grace." Danny says clearing his throat. Grace turns back around and comes over and gives me a hug.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." I say hugging her back. She let's go and walks back out to the car.
"Shot gun!" She yells.
"Uhmm no. I already don't get to drive my car, you get the back with your brother."
"Actually buddy, you can drive. I'm uhh, I'm gonna stay here for a little." Steve says walking up behind me.
"What? I get to drive my own car? What a day. Thank you again Brooklyn."
"You're very welcome."
"You to Everest. The kids love you guys." Danny picks up Charlie and walks out to his car.
"Well I've gotta get up early for work tomorrow. Good night you guys." Everest says as he gives me a hug.
"Night Everest."
"Night buddy." Steve says. Everest waves and goes into his room.
"How was work?" I ask Steve as we sit down on the couch.
"It was good. Yeah. Didn't get shot so that's a plus." I just stare at him. "I'm kidding. Hey, I'm just kidding." Steve says wrapping his arm around me. "Mostly just interrogating people."
"You get shot at a lot?"
"Uhmm. I mean it comes with the job. But you don't have to worry okay? I know you still will but trust me." He kisses my forehead.
"Okay. Alright I'll try." I just look up at him and smile.
"How was your day? The kids good?"
"Yeah. Haha yeah they were good. They're fun kids."
"Yeah they really are. Love those kids."
"They seem to love you too. They talk about you a lot."
"Do they now?"
"Charlie was talking about how you built him a race car bed."
"Oh yeah. It was a pain to build, but it was worth it."
"And of course Grace was asking me 400 questions about how I know you. She also asked me if Everest was single."
"Oh dear god."
"Thirteen is a fun age." I say laughing.
"Danny doesn't think so."
"Oh I'm sure. I remember what I was like at 13."
"I remember my sister at 13. Boy crazy."
"That's pretty much the definition of being 13."
"She's not aloud to get any older. I'm gonna have to scare a lot of boys."
"Ohhh yeah, I'm sure she will love that." Steve looks at me and smiles. "Hey I've got sand everywhere so I'm gonna take a shower."
"Alright."
"You still gonna be here when I get out?"
"Of course I am."
"Good." I get up and start walking down the hall to my room but then I turn back around. "You uhh, could always take a shower too. You know cause, I'm sure you don't want to be covered in bad guy sweat and stuff."
"Yeah. Yeah. Wouldn't uhh want that now would we?"
"No. Seems uncomfortable." Steve smirks at me and gets up off of the couch and follows me back to the bathroom.
"Wouldn't really want that. Would we?" Steve says gracefully taking his shirt off.
"No. No I don't think so." I turn the water on and pull the string on my bikini top, Steve watching as it drops to the floor.
"Plus, this way we save water. Wouldn't want a high water bill." He starts to unbutton his pants.
"Oh no. Don't want that. I'm to broke for that." Steve's pants drop to the floor, leaving him in just his boxers. I take the bottoms of my bikini off and slide the shower curtain back. "You coming?" I ask him as I step into the shower. Steve takes a deep breath and practically jumps out of his boxers and gets in the shower behind me. We were both standing under the water, with water drops streaming down our face. I wrap my arms under Steve's arms with my hands on his back and start kissing his shoulder up to his neck, leaving small bites. Steve let's out a small moan. I look up at Steve, nothing but passion in my eyes. Steve looks me up and down then slams his lips into mine. We move back until my back is against the wall. My leg slides up his and I wrap my leg around him, feeling every bit of him against me.
"Steve. Steeeeeve." I say putting the pillow over my face.
"Hmm?" He mumbles with him face buried in his pillow.
"You're phone keeps ringing. It's annoying." Steve just groans and reaches over me to grab him phone off of the night stand.
"McGarrett. Mhmm. Yeah I'll be there soon." He hangs up and puts his phone back on the nightstand and lays his head back down. I just smile at him.
"Steve."
"Brook." He says with a grumbly voice.
"Don't fall back asleep."
"I'm tired." He says moving his head so he's facing me.
"Trust me. I know. But you need to go to work."
"I'd rather stay in bed with you all day." He throws his arm over my hip and I just playfully roll my eyes. I put my hand on the side of his face and kiss him.
"Go. To. Work." I whisper in his ear before kissing him one more time. I unwrap myself from the sheets and stand up to go put a shirt on.
"You're not making it very easy." He says sitting up and putting his hand behind his head.
"Get dressed. We will go to your house so you can get clothes and you're truck."
"Fiiiine." He groans and gets out of bed.
We get to Steve's house and walk inside.
"I'm gonna go and make coffee. You are going to get dressed." I lean over and give him a quick kiss and head downstairs. As the coffee starts to pour out of the machine into the cup, I hear a floor board creek behind you. "I know you did not get dressed-you're not Steve." As I turn around, I see a woman I have never met before. "Uhmm, who are you?"
"Dorris. Dorris McGarrett."
"Steve's mom." I say and I try and hold my shirt closed.
"The one and only. Why don't you uhh, go get Steve for me. I will finish these coffees."
"Uhmm." I say as I clear my throat. "Yeah. Yeah no problem." I awkwardly walk past her and hurry up the stairs.
"Coffee already done?"
"Uhmm. Working on it. I uhh, I just met your mother.
"What??"
