The Oceans Call
The flight was only about 15 minutes and we landed at the airport on Maui. After getting our bags and going to rent a car, we drove to a huge hotel right on the beach. We even had to use a special room pass to get the elevator to go to our floor. I was just so shocked at everything that was happening. Once Steve opens the hotel room door, I was shocked at how nice it was.
"Steve." I say walking further into the room. He just smiles and walks past me to the bedroom to put the bags down. "This is huge." I say looking up at the very tall ceilings.
"Yeah. I pulled some strings and got the nicest suite on the island."
"Oh my god." I walk over to the window and take in the amazing view. "You can see everything from up here."
"I know. It's beautiful. Clearly not as beautiful as my view, but pretty close." I turn around to see Steve smiling at me.
"Steven McGarrett. You have really out done yourself." He walks over to me and I wrap my arms around his neck.
"Anything for the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me." He pauses as he just smiles at me. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course."
"Okay. I've been wanting to ask you but I wanted to make it special. I want to make this, you and me, official. If you want that?"
"Steve, there's nothing I want more in this world then to be your girlfriend."
"Me neither." He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me in to kiss me. I take a deep breath and kiss him back. "Alright, what do want to do first? We can go down to the beach or the pool, go get food, stay here and see how good that bed works?"
"As much as I want to try out that bed, I'm starving and I know I won't want to leave the bed once we get in it."
"Deal. There's an amazing little restaurant downstairs that's right on the beach. Sound good?"
"Sounds amazing."
As soon as we get on the elevator my phone starts ringing. I was going to ignore it until I saw the name of my best friend from back in Idaho.
'Teagan?'
'What's up bestie? I miss you.'
'I miss you too. What are you doing??'
'Well I actually just landed in Maui.'
'What?! Really?'
'Yeah. I know it's not the island you're on, but I'm trying to convince Jonathan to go over there for a day or something.'
'Well stop that, because I'm in Maui.'
'Are you really?!'
'Yeah!'
"Who is that?" Steve asks me.
"It's my best friend from Idaho. I guess she's on Maui."
"Really? Well tell her to meet us for lunch."
"You sure?"
"Of course I am." He smiles and me and grabs my hand as the elevator opens.
'Who is that you're talking to? He sounds pretty.'
'He's very pretty.' I look at Steve and wink. 'Why don't you and Jonathan meet us for lunch and you can meet him.'
'Yes! Where are you guys at?'
'We're about to go to The Reef on the Beach.'
'Oh yeah, that's not very far from the airport. We will be there soon. I love you!'
'Love you too!' I hang up and smile at Steve.
"I know this weekend is supposed to just be-"
"Hey, it's totally okay. I want to meet your best friend and she clearly makes you very happy and I love seeing you happy."
"You make me happier then anything in this world." I squeeze his hand and we walk into the restaurant.
"Four please." Steve says to the host. He smiles and takes us to a table on the patio with an amazing view of the beach. Steve and I sit down on one side and he sets his hand on my thigh. I look at him and smile.
"This place has an amazing view."
"It really does. I've only been here once but I didn't really get to enjoy it. I was here on a case and Danny and I decided to come here for dinner."
"You and Danny on a romantic date? He's gonna be jealous you took me here."
"Yeah, he'll get over it." He says with a little laugh. We order a couple beers and wait for Teagan and Jonathan to show up. "Have you ever been snorkeling?"
"Once when I was like fifteen. We went out to one of those little islands and swam around."
"Yeah? You want to go again?"
"I most definitely do."
"Good. There's a perfect place by black rock beach and there's tons of cool fish and turtles and everything. It's amazing."
"It sounds amazing. Im excited." I see Teagan come around the corner onto the patio and both of our faces light up. I stand up and she walks over and hugs me.
"I missed you!!" She says squeezing me.
"I missed you too!! I can't believe you're actually here!!"
"I know! Jonathan and I decided to go away for the week and get away from the cold weather."
"Yeah. None of that here haha."
"I know. I love this." She looks over at Steve and back at me with her eye brows raised. "Oh, Teagan this is my boyfriend Steve. Steve this is my best friend Teagan." Steve stands up and shakes her hand.
"Nice to meet you." He says with a smile.
"You. Too." She looks back over at me and smiles.
"Where's Johnny boy?" I ask.
"He's just parking the car. He'll be in soon." We both sit down in our chairs and she orders a couple drinks for her and Jonathan. Steve puts him around around me and kisses my head. "So how long have you two been dating?"
"Well technically we started dating today. But I actually met him the day I got here."
"Wow. You're lucky. Living in Hawaii and met a guy the first day you got here."
"Yeah, I'm super lucky."
"So what do you do, Steve?"
"I'm the commander of the crime task force in Hawaii. 5-0."
"Oh that's super cool. Sounds dangerous."
"Tell me about it." I say, smiling at Steve.
"Yeah I like it. Keeps me pretty busy." Steve says.
"Oh I'm sure. Oh, there's Jonathan." She says looking behind us.
"Hey, Yeah parking was crazy."
"Yeah usually is." Steve says. "You must me Jonathan." Steve says reaching behind me to shake his hand.
"I am."
"I'm Steve."
"Nice to meet you man. Hey Brook." Jonathan says leaning down to give me a hug.
"Hey, Johnny. I'm so happy you guys are here."
"Us too." He smiles and goes to sit down next to Teagan.
For about the next hour or so we all just sat around and talked and ate our food.
"How is back in Idaho?" I ask as I finish off my food.
"Cold. Probably gonna start snowing soon."
"Yeah, it's about that time of year. You see Makayla much?"
"Yeah. Every couple weeks or so. She's in between jobs, and boyfriends."
"Not surprising."
"Yeah not really. She moved in with her last boyfriend actually. But that only lasted about two weeks."
"I'm surprised it even got to the point they moved in together."
"Yeah, she swore he was gonna be the one she was going to marry. But then she found out he was sleeping with some other girl and she broke up with him."
"Well good for her honestly. She just does not have good luck with guys."
"Yeah not at all."
"You two still living together?"
"Yep. We actually just moved into a little house in downtown Boise."
"Oh that's awesome."
"Yeah. It's nice not living in an apartment."
"Tell me about it. I'm living with Everest in his house on the beach and it's amazing."
"Yeah I've seen some of your snapchats and stuff, it looks amazing. I'm a little jealous."
"I was too when he sent me pictures when he moved in. It's just all so surreal living here now. It's such a change."
"A big change. Are you liking it though?"
"I love it. I'm far from my mother, I live on the beach, I have an amazing boyfriend," I say resting my hand on Steve's. "Feels like a dream."
"You're living out your dream. I'm so happy for you."
"I really am." I say with a smile.
"Well we should probably get going soon. I guess we are going on a little boat cruise at four and we still haven't made it to the hotel."
"Yeah I think we're gonna go to the beach for a little." I say.
"Well if I can convince Jonathan, we might fly over to Oahu during the week. Come see your house."
"Yeah. That would be awesome."
"Perfect." We all stand up and walk out of the restaurant. "It was really amazing see you again. We all miss you back in Idaho."
"I miss you guys too. I think Everest and I are gonna come up for Christmas this year."
"Well just let me know and we can go snowboarding or something while you're there."
"Yes for sure." We hug one last time and part ways.
Steve grabs my hand and we walk back up to our room to change. "So did you like Teagan?" I ask.
"Yeah. She seems really nice."
"She is. We've known each other since elementary school so we've pretty much grown up together."
"Wow. You guys have been friends for a long time."
"Yeah we really have. Been through a lot of life together."
"That's awesome. I'm glad you got to see her."
"Well I'm glad you got to meet her." I say as Steve unlocks the hotel room door. "She's a pretty important part of my life."
"I'm glad I got to meet her too." He smiles at me and we both walk into the room.
