Chapter 17

|17| Maui Life

The Oceans Call

"I don't think I've seen that many fish in my life. Ever!" I say as Steve and I walk back up to the beach.

"I know! This place is incredible."

"It really is." He just smiles at me. "What do you want to do now?"

"I'm not sure. What do you want to do, commander?"

"Well I don't know about you, but I have seawater and sand in places there should not be. So we can head back to the hotel and figure something out then?"

"Sounds like a plan." He wraps a towel around me and we walk back over to the hotel.

After we get back up to our room Steve gets in the shower and I lay down on the bed.

I open my eyes and realize my head is resting on Steve's chest and there's a blanket over me.

"I fell asleep." I say looking up at Steve.

"You did." He says with a little laugh. "It's okay though. You're cute when you sleep."

"How long did I sleep for?"

"Mmm, maybe an hour or so."

"Oh, not to bad."

"Not at all."

"So do we have any plans for the rest of the night?"

"Well I ordered room service about ten minutes ago, so dinner should be here soon. I was thinking we could eat out on the deck and then just hang out for the rest of the night. Maybe walk on the beach or something."

"That sounds amazing. You've got this whole thing planned out don't you?"

"Well I'm sort of going with the flow."

"Yeah? What do you have planned for tomorrow?"

"Well actually-" He says with a small laugh. "While you were asleep I called Teagan and her and Jonathan are going to meet us down on the beach around eleven for a little beach volleyball."

"Really?"

"Yep." I get a huge grin across my face and I kiss him. "You're amazing!!" I say kissing him a few more times.

"I try. And then after that I heard that there's a pretty cool little aquarium place that's like half building, half the actual ocean. Thought we could check that out. Have lunch there. Then come back here and do whatever and then we do have a dinner reservation at six."

"I'm glad you have this all figured out because I am terrible at making decisions."

"Well I will try and make the as many decisions as you let me."

"Sounds perfect." There was a knock on the door. "You get that. I'm gonna go get out of my swim suit and put clothes on."

"Damn." I just playfully stick my tongue out at Steve and get out of the bed. He gets up to go answer the door. I put on a pair of cut off blue jean shorts and a Hawaii sweatshirt Steve got for me. I walk out of the bedroom and see Steve out on the deck.

"Steve, I don't know about you, but guy who brought us our room service looks a lot like Danny."

"Yeah, sorry. He's an idiot. Tell her what you did Daniel."

"Look, I am not an idiot. It's these stupid computers that are idiots."

"Danny." I say.

"Right. Look. I booked a room for Melissa and I because Grace's mother let her go to Maui by herself with some friend and I didn't like the idea."

"So you came to Maui to spy on her?" I ask as I sit down next to Steve.

"That's exactly what I said." Steve says.

"No, I did not come here to spy on her. I came here because I don't think a 13 year old should be able to go on a trip where she has to fly away from her parents, by herself. I came here just in case she gets into any trouble or anything."

"Right. Yeah, spying. Anyways, why does that bring you to our hotel room, and what did you do with Melissa?"

"So I had to book the room last minute, but turns out the stupid computer booked it for next weekend. Melissa is downstairs trying to convince them to give us a room, because I guess they're all booked for tonight. She said I was being rude to the people so she made me go walk around. And then I remembered you guys were here, and here I am."

"I tried to tell him to leave, but as we all know, he does not listen." Steve says.

"Where am I gonna go Steven?"

"Don't 'Steven' me." Steve says mimicking Danny. "Maybe the beach or something. Go look around some shops."

"It's fine. But you're not eating my dinner." I say.

"Deal."

"And stay on your own side of the table." Steve says.

"What am I gonna do, come over there and sit on your lap?"

"Maybe. I don't know."

"Whatever. Hopefully Melissa figures it out."

"I pray to god she does." Steve says with a small laugh.

"Anyways, what's for dinner?" I ask Steve.

"I got us...pancakes!" He says as he takes the top of the plates.

"The way to my heart." I kiss him on the cheek and grab a fork.

"Pancakes? Dude it's like seven at night."

"Would you just shut up?" Steve says to Danny.

"Whatever." Right before Steve could take a bite, there was a knock on the door. "Don't worry, I'll get it." Danny says standing up.

"I'm sorry about him. He's just an idiot."

"It's fine." I say laughing. "I just like giving him a hard time."

"It is fun, isn't it?'

"Very much so." I say as I take a bite of my pancake.

"Looks like Melissa is here." Steve says looking through the window.

"Why don't we let them stay here for a little and eat with us?"

"You sure?"

"Yeah. Gives us more time to harass him."

"God you're amazing." Steve says putting his arm around me. Danny and Melissa come back out onto the deck.

"Looks like Melissa was able to get us a room."

"Yeah, no thanks to Danny. Saying you're a police officer and threatening to call the mayor does not help." Melissa says. Steve just shakes his head. "Plus, they got a cancellation while I was down there and they offered me the room."

"Good timing is all it was." Danny says.

"Shut up, Danny." Melissa and Steve say at the same time. Melissa looks over at me and smiles.

"Hi, you must be Brooklyn." She says sticking her hand out to shake mine. I smile and finish the food in my mouth and shake her hand back.

"Yes. Sorry I had pancake in my mouth."

"It's totally okay." She says laughing. "Pancakes for dinner. That's my favorite." I look up and Danny and just smile.

"Why don't you two sit down and we'll order some more?" Steve says.

"Are you sure? We don't want to interrupt." Melissa says.

"Danny already did. Seriously, sit down, I will go order some more." Steve says with a smile. He gets up and goes inside to order more food.

"So I here you just moved here?" Melissa asks me as her and Danny sit down.

"Yeah. I actually just got here on Monday. My brother moved here a few years ago and I figured it was my turn."

"Well welcome. I moved here about ten years ago and I absolutely love it. How did you and Steve meet?"

"At Kamakona's actually. And I guess he knows my brother so it all just kind of fell into place. He offered to show me around some local spots on Tuesday and we kind of just hit it off."

"Well I can tell you make him very happy. According to Danny, he doesn't stop talking about you." I just grin.

"It's very true." Danny says. Steve comes back out and sits down next to me, putting his arm back around me.

"So are living with your brother?"

"I am, yes. He told me he had a spare room and he wouldn't let me get my own place when just moving here."

"He sounds sweet."

"Most of the time. He can be a handful."

"Most brothers are." We both let out a little laugh. "Is he your only sibling?" She asks.

"No. I actually have an older sister who lives back in Idaho with her husband and their two kids and a younger brother who's a junior in high school."

"Big family."

"Little bit, yeah. What about you?"

"Just a younger brother. He's two years younger than me so growing up we fought all the time, but now we are really close."

"Yeah, that's a lot how Everest and I were. We actually got closer when he moved away."

"That's awesome."

"Yeah. It's nice having the support I have with him."

"Room service is here." Danny says standing up after there was a knock on the door. Melissa just smiles at him as he walks inside. Steve looks at me and grins. I give a questionable smile back and he just kisses my neck. I cut a piece of his pancake off and tease him that I was going to eat it.

"Hey." He says with a pouty lip. I just smile and put the food in his mouth. "Thank you." He says with a full mouth. Danny comes back out with the plates and sets them down on the table. After about 45 minutes of talking with Danny and Melissa, they leave to go to their hotel room. Steve and I were still sitting outside.

"Melissa seems nice." I say to Steve.

"Yeah. She makes Danny less miserable so that's a plus."

"You two fight so much." I giggle.

"Yeah, but it's all out of love."

"Oh I'm sure."

"You ready to go to bed?"

"As long as we don't have to sleep." I say with a smirk. Steve raises and eye brow and stands up and picks me up bridal style. I just laugh as he takes me inside and tosses me onto the bed.
