Jack
Closing arguments:
I go off like a bomb! Sword. Heart. Fire. Whisper to thunder.
My voice hits the resonant frequency of the room. Made the walls shake. Felt the audience in the gallery murmur, rumble, and quake.
It was a flood of flashbacks.
The most decisive battle cry, "THERE WERE 17 POLICE VIDEOS!! WHERE ARE THEY? WHERE DID THEY GO? WHY DIDN'T YOU GET TO SEE THEM?"
I wait three beats. Turn. Point both hands at the two DAs.
The jury looks at them. The DAs stare back with a look of hate and nausea.
Jack
The Jury is deliberating.
Ceci
Ok, standing by. You feel good?
Jack
I don't want to say. Jinx is a powerful magic.
Ceci
I'm good with that.
Jack
Just got a call from the Court Clerk
The Jury has a question.
We all file back into the courtroom.
The Jury is asking the Judge if they can see the videos!!
Ceci
Of course.
Jack
We are back in Courtroom for another jury question.
The Jury is asking for the police reports and transcripts.
Ceci
Are they allowed to view these things now that they request them?
Jack
Yes. They can view the few videos that were admitted by the DA, but not our videos.
Not transcripts. Not police reports.
Jack
More waiting....
Another jury question!
Very inquisitive jury.
They are requesting a copy of the entire trial transcript.
Ceci
Wow!
A transcript of what they just sat through?
So they still don't get to see the complete videos?
Jack
No.
Earlier, during the trial, the Jury actually asked the Court to admit our videos.
A jury asking for the Court to change its ruling and admit a defense exhibit. In my entire career, I have never seen that.
Ceci
I sure hope they wonder why they don't get to see the body cams.
Jack
They will.
We can hear the murmur of the jury's deliberations through the walls of the Courtroom.
Ceci
You can?
Jack
Yes. No words. Almost a hum.
The sound of justice.
Jack
I'm slumped in chair at the defense table. very tired. want it to be over, but not if it means a bad result.
Jack
Jury laughing pretty loud...
Jack
Another jury question....
They asked about a typographical error on the verdict form.
Ceci
Ok
Jack
The Jury is getting so loud and shouting that the Judge had us leave the courtroom. Probably in fear that we hear some of what they are saying.
Ceci
16:22:46
Wow!
Jack
16:23:57
I'm pacing in the hallways. Have a 30 foot path I'm wearing into the tile. Down to 13% battery. Switching to power save.
Ceci
Ok, and let's all breathe.
Jack
Yes. breathe. Thank you.
Gary has a decent collection of supporters here. They packed the Courtroom from wall to wall.
God I love that. All part of our vigil.
Ceci
Nice
Jack
Jury question...
They are asking more questions about videos.
Questions about time of incidents, details about resisting charge.
This is good. There are some engineers on the jury.
They may have figured out that if you combine a few time signatures, the DA's videos, and some math, the police were lying.
Jack
Jury has now been deliberating more than four hours.
They sealed off the courtroom and brought the jury back in to privately view the DA's video.
Ceci
Jeeze
Jack
Another Jury question..
Ceci
What is it?
Jack
Another request to view the videos.
Incredible! Another question, the eighth.
And they said they need another 3 hours.
Almost to 5 hours now.
My phone battery is at 3%.
Ceci
Ethan is texting asking me what's happening.
Do you have a charger in your car?
Jack
Can't go out. the Courthouse is closed. They won't let me back in.
We are ordering pizza to be delivered to the lobby.
Ceci
So it picks back up tomorrow?
Jack
Maybe.
But right now, it looks like we go through the night.
Ceci
Ok
Jack
Phone went dead.
Fell asleep. Woke up. I'm still here.
Almost 7 1/2 hours.
Ceci
Is it coming up on that 3 hours they told you they needed?
Jack
20 min of that left
Jack
Verdict! Running into the Courtroom.
The Jury is filing back into jury box.
Count one: Felony assault on officer Ansel. NOT GUILTY!
Count two: Felony assault on officer Hogarth, NOT GUILTY!
Ceci
F yes!!!
Jack
Count three: Third degree assault, officer Ansel, NOT GUILTY!
Count four: Third degree assault, officer Hogarth, NOT GUILTY!
Count five and six: Misdemeanor resisting and obstructing, guilty.
No prison. Misdemeanor probation at worst!
Ceci
Whoop whoop!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!
YES!!!
Time for a beer!
Ceci
All right!
What a relief.
Jack
Yup. I'm having a whole beer. Food. Sleep!
DAs very sad.
Ceci
Sad, Ha!!
Trying to put law abiding citizens in prison.
She should be ashamed of herself. What an embarrassment, she should be sad.
Jack
They fled the courtroom. She is dangerous. No lie. Absolutely dangerous.
She's the one behind the spare-change bucket "burglary" case they trumped up last week. We have more details now. Four days before this trial, she charged Gary with burglary based on a claim that two years ago $20 of spare change was missing from a housemate's plastic bucket. She is a menace to justice.
Ceci
Truly.
Jack
Heading up mountain. Will lose signal, but talk more if you like when I get to place with beer and food
Ceci
Send me a note, I'm putting boys to sleep. Sometimes I fall asleep myself.
zzzzzz
I let Ethan and Trevor know.
Jack
Sweet dreams, Ceci
Ceci
Call me tomorrow?
Jack
Yup
