I was psyched!! I had Court in the city where Ruby goes to college, but the other lawyer was such a blow hard, he wasted my whole day.

Now, I'm driving home, no Ruby, and I've got a nose whistle.

We were set to debrief Joe about the bodies buried on his property at 4pm today. He is a ten-minutes-early, very punctual dude, but he never arrived. No call. Nothing. When we dial his number all we get is this recording....

"The number you have called is not answering..."

APB?

GPR?

Ceci

What is GPR?

Jack

You better sit down for this.

Ceci

Oh, no.

Jack

GPR: Ground Penetrating Radar

Ceci

BLAMP BLAMP!!

I imagined cadaver dogs.

Jack

Sicko.

Joe just called. He stopped at 711 for a Slurpee.

No. Serious. He still hasn't called.

Ceci

What will happen if he disappears?

Will they have to start digging on the property without him?

Jack

Yeah, but there's at least 15 acres.

Did you get the pics of his house? His property? The possible grave site?

Jack

Don't worry, I'll look it up in just a few. Getting my big kid something to eat.

Anne, my Trial Assistant, just researched Joe's phone message. The phone company gives that message when a prepaid phone runs out of minutes, not when the phone is buried with its owner.

Jack

Joe is not dead. Just talked to him. He didn't pay his phone bill. Reset his appointment.

I talked with D.A. Kelly Thatcher. Told her what we have. We meet with her investigators this week. She's making no promises. She pretends to be uninterested in the bodies.

Ceci

In the book version, this means she's involved.

Jack

She could be a secret biker chick!

Jack

Kind of looks like her, but different shoes.

Here she is pretending to be an upstanding public servant, but we'll find her dark secrets. Maybe she's a biker love child?

I'm not clicking on anything to do with those bikers...

No problem, we'll frame Anne. She can take a bullet. Did you click the photo of the DA? She's at a wine and cheese reception at the Governor's Mansion. But, suspiciously, she chose to wear a black dress. BIKERS ALSO WEAR BLACK!

She's pretty, and she's not getting her hands dirty.

Yeah, pretty like a pearl handled revolver.

Shhhhhh! I'm in the Courthouse and here she comes.

She just walked by pretending to go to the restroom, but as she passed, in the wake of her perfume, did I note a trace a chain lube?

Ceci

She's up to her eyeballs in grease.

Jack

Right!

And I just noticed. She has no shimmy, no jiggle in her walk. Zero! Could anybody be that stiff? Or could she be masking her wiggle to cover a dark chapter as a biker plaything?

Today, Joe interviews with the DA's investigators.

But seriously, if you were here, is there any way you would miss the interrogation of Joe? Or be absent from the scene when they run the ground penetrating radar?

We need to talk. Learned a bunch. Blue Steel Kings are a real and dangerous threat. No joke. Drugs, crime, prostitution, and murder.

I have to meet a client in 5 min, but later, we talk.

Detective Balsam just called with follow-up questions. He needs details on the current ownership of the land.

That's to get permission to go in and dig for bodies.
