Chapter Eleven: When Pigs Fly
Her Shifter Bodyguard (Shifter World Novella - Book One) (SERIES OF 13 SHORT STORIES)
âNo fucking way!â Dustin bellowed.
Just the image of that had Dustinâs heart racing.
âItâs not real,â Sharissa said, cuddling against him.
Dustin took in even breaths to steady his heart rate.
âNot a good idea, Tate. Very dramatic, but how will you explain how she got out of your trance?â Daryl asked.
Tate snorted, âyou shifters are too smart for your own good. Fine, Iâll tell him I dropped her off a Highrise, and her body went splatâ¦.â
âShut the fuck up!â Dustin hollered, jumping to his feet.
The vampire chuckled as he held his hands up in defense. âEasy, shifter.â
âGet the fuck out of here!â Dustin shouted, pointing at the door.
âEasy now, Dustin,â Daryl said, laying a hand on his brotherâs shoulder. âWe need him, and you know it.â
Dustin snorted, and Shar pulled him down in his seat, then soothed him by rubbing his back and laying her head on his shoulder.
âIâm just fucking with you, my friend,â Tate said with a devilish grin. âAnd besides, it should be something believable.â
âFake a car wreck,â Dominic said. Everyone turned to him, and he shrugged. âOn your way to Vega, you were in a car wreck. You, of course, survived without a scratch, being a vampire and all. But it killed Shar on impact. Something you couldnât have foreseen happening and something he cannot dispute.â
âWeâll need a real crash in case he looks it up,â Dylan said.
Dominic shook his head. âTate can put the image into Vegaâs head that he saw the report and identified the body.â
âYou must be the smart one of this group of idiots,â Tate said with a grin.
âWatch it,â Dustin growled.
âOkay, so now that we know what we are doing. How are we going to pull it off?â Daryl asked.
Tate grinned at the group of enormous men. âLeaveit all to me.â
~ð±~
âDo you think he can pull it off?â Lyvia asked as she sipped the glass of red wine Dustin had set in front of her on the coffee table.
Shar shrugged. âDustin trusts him.â
âI canât believe a vampire hypnotized us,â Lyvia said with a chuckle
Shar snorted. âIt seems heâs good at all kinds of tricks.â
âWell, I read that vampires can read the minds of humans,â Lyvia said with wide eyes.
Shar nodded. âHe heard mine pretty well. He says he gets tidbits, but the tidbit he got from me was personal.â
âI like what you were thinking about,â Dustin said as he leaned down and kissed Shar on the cheek.
She smiled up at him, âonly because it was about you.â
He laughed, âjust be glad you werenât thinking about knotting.â
Shar made a face at him, and he chuckled, then moved around to the chair which faced the couch she and Lyvia were sitting on.
âWhat are you going to do if this doesnât work?â Lyvia asked, watching Shar.
Shar shrugged. âIâm not sure.â
âIâll kill him myself,â Dustin growled.
âNo,â Lyvia said, looking at him. âYou need to protect your mate. Weâll hire someone else to kill the asshole.â
Dustin laughed and smiled at her.
Shar smiled at Lyvia. She was glad that Lyvia was a shifter, so she could share what was going on with her. If she had been human, they would have had to have Tate erase her memory of the other day. But since sheâs a part of their world, they let her in on everything. Shar felt they were going to be great friends, and she hadnât had a friend in a long time.
âYouâre giving me that look again,â Lyvia said, looking at Shar.
Sharissa felt her blush and turned her head, âsorry.â
âWhat is it?â Lyvia asked, placing her hand on Sharâs shoulder.
Shar let out a sigh. âItâs just, I donât have any friends, and I was just thinking about how you and I seem to be becoming friendsâunless Iâm wrong,â she said, her head whipping to the side to look at the female shifter.
Lyvia grinned, âyouâre not wrong, Shar. Even if you werenât mated to a shifter and having all these crazy problems, I think you and I would still become amazing friends.â
Shar smiled. âI think so, too.â
A phone rang, and Shar almost jumped off the couch.
Lyvia chuckled as she squeezed Sharâs shoulder to comfort her.
âSorry,â Dustin said as he stood and pulled his phone from his pocket. âKraftman,â he answered.
âYouâre lucky,â Lyvia sighed.
âI know.â Shar grinned as she watched her mate talk on his phone.
âI would give anything to find my mate.â
Shar looked at her friend. âI have a feeling that youâre going to. Donât know when, but you will. Tate says itâs a mate connection. Like I can sense other mates, male or female, whoâll find the other half of their soul soon.â
âHad you felt anything like that before youâd found yours?â Lyvia asked.
Shar shook her head. âI didnât even know there was such a thing as Fated matesâuntil I met the Kraftman brothers.â
âAnd one of them attacked you,â Lyvia chuckled.
Shar smiled at her, âjust wait until you find yours. You will see.â
Lyvia nodded and said, âI canât wait. So, how do you have these feelings now?â
Shar shrugged. âTate said itâs part of the markings,â she said, holding up her wrists.
Lyvia ran a finger over a scar and smiled. âItâs like they branded you.â
Shar nodded and whispered, âbranded by love.â
Lyvia grinned, âI knew it.â
Shar looked up at her. âWhat?â
âYouâre in love with your mate.â
Shar smiled. âIs it that obvious?â
Lyvia chuckled, âto everyone but your mate.â
âThat was Tate,â Dustin said as he rejoined them.
âWhat did he say?â Shar asked, looking at her mate.
Dustin grinned at her. âAll is taken care of. Weâll never have to worry about Johnny Vega and his goons again. It turned out that Vega has a girl in every state, which is creepy as hell. Tate visited each woman, and made them forget about the bastard, then made Vega forget all about them.â
The girls laughed.
âBut I thought that would not last,â Shar said when she remembered what Tate had said when theyâd suggested that for her.
Dustin shrugged. âIt seemed that since they live in different states from each other, the possibility of him seeing them again is slim, but he gave it a shot. But with you, you live too close to Vegaâif he saw you, he would get his memories of the two of you back.â
Shar scrunched up her face. âCan Tate take away my memories of him? I donât want them anymore.â
Dustin moved across the room and knelt in front of her. âMafilia, you being with that asshole, God, I canât believe Iâm saying this.â He cleared his throat. âYou being with him made you the woman you are today, and I love that womanâ¦.â He stopped talking, and his eyes opened wide.
âYou hated saying that you love me?â Shar asked, her face pale.
He shook his head, âno, Mafilia, Iâ¦.â
âI think itâs time for me to go,â Lyvia said with a giggle, not that either of them heard her. She grabbed her purse and left her friendâs house. Shar is such a lucky woman. Maybe sheâs right, and her mate is close by, and sheâll find him.
She shrugged and said, âyeah, and pigs can fly.â
A squeal over her head had her looking up. A boar shifter went flying by, and her skin crawled.
âHey there, Lyvia,â Dylan Kraftman said as he walked up to her.
âHi,â Lyvia said as she continued to stare at where the boar had landed.
âSorry about that,â Dylan said with a laugh. âTate called me and told me a minion escaped his grasp and sent me to find him. That asshole would have jumped Shar when she came out of the house.â Dylan shook his head.
âYeah, great rescue,â Lyvia said with wide eyes, her heart still in her throat.
Well, sheâd asked for a flying pig.
âDustin and Shar still up?â he asked, watching her pale face.
Lyvia nodded, âbut I wouldnât go in there just yet.â
âOh?â he asked, studying her face.
She nodded and explained, âDustin just told her he loves her, in not so much of a âbaby I love youâ kind of way. They will be discussing it for a while,â Lyvia chuckled.
Dylan snorted, âthatâs my brother. He never had class.â
Lyvia snorted, âheâs a wonderful man, and Shar is lucky to have him.â
Dylan nodded, âshe is. And he is lucky to have her.â
âMakes you wonder if thereâs anyone out there for us, huh?â
He nodded, âwell, I need to find my flying pig before he escapes,â he chuckled as he ran past her.
Lyvia watched him run after the boar and sighed. âToo bad youâre not mine, Dylan Kraftman. Youâre a wonderful man, too. Whoever she is, she will be one lucky bitch.â Lyvia smiled to herself, then got into her car and drove home.
She was still reeling over the fact that she had just seen a pig fly.
~ð±~
âI hated to say that you being with Johnny Vega was a good thing. Because, in some ways, it wasnât. But if not for him, you would not have come to us for help. And you wouldnât be this strong, wonderful womanâ¦.â
âThat you love?â Shar asked with a bright smile.
He grunted, âyes, Sharissa Flemmings, I love you. Are you happy now?â
Shar grinned, âoh, yes, very. Because I love you too.â
Dustin growled loudly, and his cougar purred with joy. Their mate loves them! She truly loves them.
âWeâll be so happy together. You and me,â Dustin said as he pushed her against the couch.
âYou, me, and cub make three?â she asked with a grin.
He paused and stared at her. âShar?â
She shook her head, ânot yet. But maybe soon?â She asked, her cheeks turning pink. âI mean, if you want, I can stop taking my pillâ¦.â She squealed when he lifted her off the couch and swung her around.
She threw her head back and laughed. âHow are you going to react when I tell you there is a cub?â
He growled in her ear, âyou will find out the day you announce Iâm going to be a father.â
She smiled as she ran her hand through his hair. âI know we havenât known each other long, but I feel as though I have known you forever.â
He kissed her lips, then pulled his head back and looked into her beautiful blue eyes, which held the other half of his soul.
âYou and I are marked by the Goddesses, separated and split in two. Now that we are one, our lives will begin.â
She sighed, âI love you so muchâmy heart aches for you.â
He nipped at her bottom lip. âYou want to get married?â he whispered.
She stared at him. âYou would do that for me?â
âI would move the moon and stars for you, Sharissa. You should know that by now.â
She sighed, âan actual wedding sounds wonderful. But I donât want to wait until after the wedding to start our family,â she said with a twinkle in her eyes. âI didnât take my pill today.â
His cougar growled inside.
âYes.â
Dustin smiled at his cougarâs eagerness. âMine.â Dustin and his cougar said as he carried their mate to the bedroom and laid her on the bed.
âYes,â Sharissa whispered. âI am yours, and you are mine.â
âForever,â Dustin whispered.
Shar nodded in agreement, âuntil the end of time.â
