Chapter 49 - Cooperation?

Shen Yan sat on the couch with an indifferent expression. She looked at Fu Hang, who was sitting opposite her, and raised her eyebrows slightly. She inquired with a cold face, “President Fu, please talk to my manager about matters relating to work. There’s no need for a busy man like you to come all the way here!”

Shen Yan remembered that when they got married, Fu Han’s schedule was so packed that he slept in the company and did not return home at all.

“This matter can only be done in secret.” Fu Hang leaned back on the couch. He swept his eyes at the USB on the table, and continued, “You should know that there are many people who don’t want your movie to be released. The reason why I want it to be released this year was to send the film to be reviewed overseas.”

“The Way of the Stars” was a movie that mainly featured the female lead, with minimal presence for the male lead. It was about a single-parent girl who refused subterfuge and became an international superstar by the virtue of her strength. It was a movie about family, friendship, and love.

Gu Cheng originally intended to be reviewed abroad after its release next year.

“There are a lot of special effects scenes in the movie. There won’t be enough time to complete the movie by this year.” Shen Yan frowned disapprovingly. Gu Cheng would never allow his movie to have even the slightest flaw.

“There will be more good movies to be released next year as compared to this year. Not only that, but the movies of the former Oscar Best Actress and Best Actor will also be released next year. The judges might be more inclined to choose them even if your acting skills meet the criteria.”

He looked at Shen Yan calmly and continued, “The chances of you getting the Best Actress Award next year is extremely high if you send the movie to be reviewed abroad this year.”

Shen Yan remained silent. There had yet to be any actors in the country to receive the Oscar Best Actress Award. In addition, the script for the movie “The Way of the Stars” had been written five years ago. Although it was shot quickly, Gu Cheng had already rehearsed every detail in the movie countless times in his mind.

“I know you’re worried about the special effects, but rest assured. I’ll get my company handling the special effects to help you with the production.” Fu Hang naturally understood why Shen Yan was hesitating. Therefore, he spoke the words he had thought of long ago.

Shen Yan looked at Fu hang warily. Her beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, and a dangerous glint flashed in them. Suddenly, she smiled and asked curiously, “President Fu, why are you helping me?”

“Miss Shen, you’re wrong. We are partners. I have been planning for the movie ‘God of War’ for two years. Everything is for my movie, as some details and special effects have already been done for it,” Fu Hand said incoherently. He lowered his eyes to hide the emotions in his heart.

Shen Yan slowly stood up and said indifferently, “President Fu, it’s getting late. You can go back first. As for your proposal, I will consider it carefully.”

Fu Hang could not stay here any longer after Shen Yan signaled for him to leave. He lifted his feet and headed out.

The next morning, Shen Yan woke up before the alarm clock went off. She had no scenes to shoot today, so she could rest for the day.

She walked barefoot to the bathroom and squeezed the toothpaste onto her electric toothbrush. She brushed her teeth with a complicated expression and looked at herself in the mirror.

She did not see any problem with what Fu Hang had proposed last night, but she was not sure of his intentions.

She did not think it was necessary at all for Fu Hang to suggest releasing “The Way of the Stars” this year was to boost the popularity of “God of War”. After all, her popularity had always been very high, and she could easily get on the trending searches.

Shen Yan drove to the office after freshening up. Miss Na came to greet her as soon as she arrived.

“Miss Shen, this is the list of movies that will be released next year.” Miss Na followed Shen Yan while holding some documents and reported in a low voice, “I’ve looked carefully. There isn’t a single S-ranked movie released this year.”

Shen Yan had sent a message to Miss Na last night, asking her to evaluate the movies for this year and next year.

Shen Yan took the contract from Miss Na’s hand when she arrived in her office. She carefully examined the reviews and analyses of both domestic and international movies.

“Miss Shen, if ‘The Way of the Stars’ is sent abroad for review this year, it will easily win an award.” Miss Na suppressed the joy in her heart. She was there when Shen Yan was filming, and she had believed that Shen Yan would definitely win an award.

“Okay.” Shen Yan replied thoughtfully. She was confident in her acting skills, but for the sake of the Best Director Award, it was better to enter the competition this year. “Miss Na, contact Gu Cheng and ask him to discuss the movie’s special effects with President Fu. See if the movie can be released by the end of this year.”

“Yes,” Miss Na answered, but got stopped by Shen Yan just as she prepared to leave.

“Miss Na, follow Gu Cheng throughout this period of time. Please help to keep an eye on President Fu. Don’t let him do anything, and let me know as soon as possible if he tries something!” Shen Yan felt that Fu Hang was up to no good, but she had no evidence.

Shen Yan took care of the company’s documents and read the script after she was done. Not long after, Miss Na came to knock on the door again.

“Come in,” Shen Yan said without raising her head. Her eyes were focused on the script.

“Miss Shen, President Fu is inviting you out for dinner.”
