Injured (Hinata x Kageyama)
"Please show me how to do a jump serve!"
Kageyama felt excited and energized, eager to learn. His upperclassmen all seemed extremely cool and skilled, and he was hoping to become like them.
"What's this?" Oikawa replied sarcastically. "You want to hear my motto?
"That's not it,"Â Kageyama said cluelessly. "I want you to show me how to do a serve toss-"
" 'If youre going to attack, then do it until it breaks' " Oikawa continued pretending he didn't hear Kageyama at all.
"Is that so?" the younger boy was as innocent as ever. "Could you do a jump serve-"
"Don't wanna!" Oikawa snapped. "Why should i help someone who'll be a threat in the future? You're an idiot, idiot"
Kageyama was taken aback, and felt his view of his upperclassmen change in that one moment. Sometimes it just takes on moment for your opinion to change, like a snap of fingers.
He felt hurt.
He wasn't a bad kid, and he didn't try to hurt anyone. Being called a threat was something he had never heard before.
"Oikawa don't pick fights with the first-years!" Iwaizumi called out, as he put away the balls.
Maybe Iwaizumi was different, Kageyama thought to himself.
But throughout junior high, he barely ever spoke to the older boy. Oikawa constantly picked on Kageyama when he could, but Iwaizumi would usually be there to stop him from going to far.
Kageyama was just a threat to OIkawa. To Iwaizumi, who was he? He considered that he could have been a friend, but everything said otherwise.
Now that he was in such a condition, he saw Iwaizumi care for him and with that, he isolated himself from everone else.
"There's no one I fear more than Oikawa."
He had claimed that before, and it was still true, but maybe Oikawa wasn't all the bad truly.
Kageyama forgot that he had a team as well.
Tsukishima was a bit annnoying but he definitely cared for the team, and Yamaguchi as well of course. Tanaka and Nishinoya were a quite a unique pair, and were obviously extremely encouraging and hyper. Daichi and Asahi were responsible third-years who looked out for Kageyama and helped him learn and mature.
Kazuhito, Ennoshita were the most supportive people ever, always encouraging Kageyama from the bench. The managers Yachi and Kiyoko were of course the most caring people he'd ever ask for, and they dedicated their time helping the team which Kageyama greatly appreciated. Takeda-sensei and Coach Ukai were amazing coaches and teachers. T
And of course Suga. Suga was always there, no matter what. No matter what they went through, Suga was there for him. He knew he could trust him with almost anything.
Hinata on the other hand was a different story. His feelings for him were confusing now, when they were once crystal clear. He had accepted that Hinata rejected him, but in a way where he felt empty and incomplete.
His team was perfect- and his team was like family.
Sometimes he just forgot that, and he wished he hadn't.
â³â³â³
The sound of thunder rumbling loudly, woke Hinata. The fact that he had woken up, in a unfamiliar place yet again, made him distressed. Was he kidnapped? Was he at the hospital? He no longer had a sense of time or place and his head hurt.
Where was Kageyama? Even when he was unconscious when Kageyama was near him, he would calm down. But instead, he saw Satou. Better than nothing.
"Where am I?"
"At the place I'm staying," Satou grumbled quietly.
"Why?"
"You don't remember I presume," he gave a look of worried and tiredness. "But I tried calling the ambulance, but you kept screaming at me to not do so, and you wanted me to take care of you."
"Oh..." Hinata tried sitting up, but his head felt extremely heavy.
"Careful there," Satou said coming to stop him from moving. "From what I saw your legs kinda... something happened, and you fell and hit your head. Want to tell me what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong!" Hinata said quickly, and he knew he sounded the most suspicious he had ever in his life.
"You have the worst poker face ever. Guess I'll have to ask your parents."
"You can't tell my parents!" Hinata said hurriedly.
"Why?" Satou sighed and looked back. "Hinata you're so hurt!"
"I know, and that's exactly why you can't!"
"Tell me everything Hinata."
"Can I trust you?"
"C'mon Hinata, you know you can."
"Why?" Hinata asked, quite bluntly. The look on Satou's face was a mix of disbelief and hurt. "I didn't mean it like that!"
"I'm sorry, I should probably back off a bit," Satou said solemnly. "I think I tried too hard to reconnect and imagined that we were super. Time apart really is a killer."
"I didn't mean that-"
"No, it's true," he replied. "Anyways, I think you have a concussion."
"A concussion?" Hinata said, adrenaline rushing through him. "God, no..."
He stood up, and immediately felt dazed.
"Okay, calm down, first of all-"
"Don't tell me to calm down!" Hinata yelled angrily.
Emotions flooded him in frustration. His ears were ringing and he felt like vomiting. He wanted nothing more than for all of then to be over.
"Nothing good will come out of being mad," Satou warned. "It's okay to be upset."
"Upset!?" Hinata exclaimed. "What gives you the right to say that? You know nothing about me! You left me when I missed you so much, and now you act like we've been best friends forever."
For a few moments, the words crashed down on the both of them. Crushing them and consuming them. There was pure silence at the moment, and Hinata swore he heard a pin drop.
The adrenaline slowly faded away again, and his legs felt week.
Hinata opened his mouth again but no words came out. He didn't even know if he wanted to apologize or not.
"You don't need to apologize, and you're right," he said softly. "I understand if you no longer want to talk to me again, but I just gotta say- whatever's going on with your leg, hiding it from adults isn't helping anyway. You're hurt, inside and out.
"Also, I can tell you really like that Kageyama guy, so what's stopping you? I'd rather you be mad at me, but forgive your teammates. From all I've heard, they're great people. No, I have no idea what you're going through but I know you're suffering a lot.
"It hurts, it hurts so much, because you love volleyball with everything you got. And now you're told you can't play."
"Shut up," Hinata said.
"Alright, well in case you forgot you're at my place."
"Where is it?"
Satou sighed and gave directions on how he should leave and Hinata left. And the moment he left the place, he felt terrible and exhausted; both emotionally and physically.
He could barely walk properly, so obviously his bike seemed pretty useless. Satou had a bench in his front yard, so Hinata decided to sit.
He wasn't going anywhere, and he had no idea what to do.
He couldn't contact his team, or his family, or his doctor. He was fully capable of doing so, but he decided against it.
Who could he go to right now? And at that moment, only one person came to mind.
"Hey Kenma."
"Shouyou?"
"I have no one to turn to, so I thought I'd...catch up with you."
"Nobody to turn to? Hinata you have so many friends."
"And I lashed out on all of them. I was irrational, and it was like terrible mood swings. I'm not like this, this isn't me."
"Because your a happy go lucky guy."
"Yeah, so what's happening to me?"
"Are you hurt?" The voice on the other side of the call was the only familar voice Hinata wanted to hear at the moment.
"My legs are acting up again, and Satou says I might have a concussion."
"Are you at the hospital?"
Kenma was always somewhat calm in any situation and it was relieving to hear at the moment and it was what he needed.
"No, I don't want to go."
"Hinata is volleyball more important or your health?"
"Volleyball!"
"Can you play volleyball without your health?"
"No..."
"You're being irrational, and you know it. So why not just stop and think?"
"It's not that easy."
"Of course not, so let's break it down. Considering your condition, you have to go to the hospital. This is not an option. You are going to suffer long term consequences, or even worse- death, if you don't."
"Alright... okay..." Hinata took a few deep breathes, before putting the phone back to against his ear.
"Volleyball is important to you, but why? And why'd you reject Kageyama?"
"Why'd you bring him up?" Hinata asked,
"Maybe you need to understand this so you can be more rational."
"Please stop using that word it reminds me of the math homework I have."
"Why do you like Kageyama?"
Hinata thought about it. Trying to be as honest with himself as possible.
"It's kinda complex, but the simplest way I can put it..." Hinata said. "With Kageyama I can see past the wall! In volleyball, metaphorically, but in life as well. I feel comfortable around him and he really is whats still keeping me sane."
"So why'd you reject him?"
Suddenly, from the near distance Hinata heard wailing sirens. Soon enough, an ambulance came in view, coming right in the direction of Hinata.
The middle blocker sighed. "Call you back later okay?"
"Huh? What's that sound?"
"Bye."
Hinata glared back towards the house. As expected, Satou stepped out of the house cautiously.
"I'm sorry again, but I had to," he mumbled. "I would blame myself for the rest of my life if something happened to you."
