Chapter 111
Love Addiction: Doting On My Love
She did, however, have to put on a show for Oliver.
Emily feigned disappointment. She bit her lip, and sald, âI thought so. Violet wouldnât agree to come.
Sadly, she wonât be there, but the idea of her watching the man she loves marry her sister must be unbearable. Given this, Iâd rather she didnât come.â
Her act was convincing, complete with tears toward the end.
Emilyâs reaction, full of apparent kindness, tolerance, and understanding, reassured Oliver of his choice of wife. Violetâs rudeness seemed stark in contrast to Emilyâs kindness, solidifying his belief that Violet wasnât right for him.
âEmily, youâre really wonderful. Youâre too kind,â Oliver said, embracing her and resolving to treat her well.
Snuggled in his arms, Emily playfully responded, âIs this praise or mockery?â
âItâs definitely praise. Youâre the best girl in the world to me.â
Emily gently closed her eyes, grateful to the gods for finally granting her Oliver.
After a brief embrace, Oliver gently pushed her away. âThereâs something I need to apologize for.â
Concerned, her heart fluttered with unease. âWhatâs the matter?â
Oliverâs serious demeanor heightened her anxiety, as those with guilt often breed nervousness.
âI wrapped up the cup you bought for me and displayed it at our engagement ceremony, but itâs broken now,â he explained with apprehension.
Puzzled, Emily asked, âWhich cup?â
She couldnât recall giving him any cups.
âThe one you used for giving me water when I was in a coma. Itâs been precious to me ever since.â
It seemed Violetâs breaking that cup had also shattered his heart.
âOh, I see,â Emily replied. Understanding dawned on her.
âOh, that cup,â she said, grasping his hand. âItâs okay, I can always get you another.â
Internally, Emily felt relieved. She preferred not to have anything around that reminded him of Violetâs or Oliverâs fond memories of her.
+15 BONOS Oliver appeared momentarily surprised by her lack of concern, but soon continued speaking.â Emily, you are truly kind. Having you as my wife is a blessing. I promise to treat you and only you well for the rest of my life.â
Emilyâs heart swelled with joy, feeling incredibly sweet.
âWould you like to visit my studio later?â Oliver invited her after some time.
This being their first such invitation, Emily eagerly accepted it. After dinner, they went to his studio.
Oliver sat her down and took out a box, spreading some broken fragments on the table.
âWhat are you doing?â Emily asked, surprised.
âIâm going to glue this cup back together.â
âWhy not let it be? I can get you another one,â she added, her eyes wide in disbelief.
âItâs different. This cup is a symbol of your love for me. Itâs irreplaceable,â he insisted, tenderly holding the fragments.
Emily was upset because the tender way he handled that cup was akin to him holding Violetâs face.
She had always suspected that this man had affection for Violet, therefore, she was tempted to grab the pieces and throw them into the sea. Eventually, she held back, not wanting to raise Oliverâs suspicions.
Oliver began to get to work, and stopped paying attention to Emily.
Emily felt a familiar distance between them, transported back in time when Oliver was polite yet distant toward her while being more open with Violet.
Violet! Emily bit her lip as she thought of that name, wishing she could rip Violet apart.
âViolet?â
Entering the directorâs office with documents in hand, Violet heard her name called. She looked up, her expression turning cold.
Emily was sitting in the reception area of the directorâs office.
âDo you work here?â Emily asked with a biting tone.
âYes, whatâs wrong with that?â Violet responded coolly, shrugging her shoulders.
+15 BONOS Emilyâs mockery intensified. âI figured as much. Youâre incompetent. You couldnât have landed a job in a big company without Dadâs help.â
Indeed, Violet had secured her position through her fatherâs Influence. However, she had since proven herself through hard work and achievement, earning her superiorâs respect.
Violet countered, âAnd what about you? Did you get into a big company on your own merits?â She suppressed her irritation, and ridiculed, âI remember you joining Dadâs company despite your unrelated field of study.â
This struck a nerve with Emily, who clenched her fingers tightly. âIf you hadnât damaged my voice, I wouldnât haveâ¦â
âLetâs be clear. That was my cup, and the water was meant for me. Had you not used it, nothing would have happened. Itâs odd, though. Youâve always been against me, so why use my cup that day?â
Violetâs pointed questions left Emily speechless and taken aback. âYou didnât drug yourself to frame me, did you?â Violet challenged.
