“There must be a mistake. I was called by the HR manager just yesterday.”

She even showed the receptionist the HR manager’s contact details.

Violet was then guided to the HR manager’s office.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Violet. While we had plans to employ you, a more suitable candidate appeared at the last moment. Thankfully, no contract was signed, so you’re free to pursue other opportunities.”
