Chapter 30: Tensions Rising
Kiss the heroine not me
Chapter 30: Tensions Rising
Aetrial sat in the quiet corner of the academy library, her fingers absentmindedly flipping through a thick tome on magical theory. The dayâs events lingered in her mind, particularly the professorâs observation about her magic. Does it really feel different? she wondered, biting her lip.
She knew her magic was not ordinaryâafter all, it wasnât solely hers anymore. The merger of Yamaucaâs soul with her own had undoubtedly altered her abilities. Yet, she couldnât dwell on it too long without drawing suspicion. If anyone realized she wasnât fully Aetrial Ranolf, the consequences could be disastrous.
Her musings were interrupted when Lillianaâs cheerful voice echoed across the library.
âThere you are, Aetrial!â
Aetrial tensed but managed a calm expression as the blonde approached, carrying a stack of books. âDo you need something?â
Lilliana smiled, setting the books down on the table. âNot really. I just thought you might want some company.â
Why does she keep doing this? Aetrial thought with exasperation. Does she really not sense how awkward this is for me?
âThanks, but Iâm fine,â Aetrial replied, her tone polite but firm.
Lilliana didnât seem fazed. âYou were amazing during the practical lesson earlier,â she said, ignoring the subtle dismissal. âYour control is incredible!â
âItâs nothing special,â Aetrial muttered, keeping her gaze on the book.
âIt is,â Lilliana insisted, leaning forward slightly. âYou should give yourself more credit.â

A Brewing Confrontation
Before Aetrial could respond, a sharp voice cut through the quiet of the library.
âRanolf!â
Aetrial looked up to see a group of students standing at the entrance. Their expressions were cautious, but there was a glint of determination in their eyes.
âWhat is it?â Aetrial asked, her voice cold.
One of the students, a boy with fiery red hair, stepped forward. âWe need to talk.â
âAbout what?â
The boy hesitated, glancing at Lilliana before continuing. âItâs about your⦠magic. Some of us have been wondering how youâre able to use it so well. Especially dark magic.â
Aetrial raised an eyebrow. âIs that a problem?â
âItâs not just that,â another student chimed in. âThe way you cast spellsâitâs too polished, too precise. Itâs like youâve been training in secret.â
Aetrial closed her book with a soft thud and leaned back in her chair. âSo what if I have?â
The students exchanged uneasy glances. Lilliana frowned, her gaze darting between Aetrial and the group. âWhat are you trying to say?â
The red-haired boy shifted uncomfortably. âWe just think itâs strange. Ranolf never showed this kind of skill before. And now, all of a suddenâ¦â
Lilliana crossed her arms. âYouâre accusing him of something, arenât you?â
âNo! Weâre justââ
âJust what?â Aetrial interrupted, her voice icy. âTrying to dig up some dirt on me? Or are you simply scared because Iâm better than you?â
The students recoiled at her tone, and Lilliana placed a gentle hand on Aetrialâs arm. âAetrial, calm down.â
Aetrial sighed, forcing herself to relax. âIf you have an actual accusation, say it. Otherwise, leave me alone.â
The red-haired boy opened his mouth to respond, but he was cut off by a booming voice.
âEnough!â
Everyone turned to see the professor standing in the doorway, his expression stern. âThis is a library, not a place for petty arguments. If you have concerns, bring them to me privately. Now, disperse.â
The students quickly murmured apologies and left, casting wary glances at Aetrial as they went.

Unseen Observers
Outside the library, a shadowy figure stood hidden in the nearby trees, watching the scene unfold.
âHis reputation precedes him,â the figure murmured.
Cain stepped out of the shadow, his crimson eyes glowing faintly. âItâs more than just reputation,â he said. âHeâs different.â
The figure nodded. âShould we continue observing him, my lord?â
Cain smirked. âFor now. But soon, Iâll confront him myself. Aetrial Ranolf has more secrets than even he realizes.â
The shadow bowed and disappeared, leaving Cain alone under the fading light of the evening sun.
