Chapter 21
Reborn Before The Divorce
Her face grew even more flushing.
Jesse remained silent, making her even more nervous.
But avoiding the problem wouldnât solve anything. She took a deep breath and met Jesseâs gaze, determined to be honest. âEverything I said earlier was true. You donât have to believe me now, but once the bidding happens, youâll see that I was telling the truth.â
âHow can I be sure youâre not playing some kind of game?â Jesseâs emotions had stabilized, and there was no blood on his lips anymore.
âYes, I am playing a game, but not with you. Itâs with Willette and Barclay.â
Jesse raised an eyebrow. âExplain.â
The calmness of the two at this moment made it hard to imagine the intense altercation that had happened earlier.
Nydia, looking disheveled, stood before Jesse. Despite her appearance, she didnât feel humiliated, instead, she was a bit defiant. âWillette was the one who caused Tavish to fall into the water last time.â
Jesseâs brow furrowed. âEven though I havenât found any evidence, I will find some to prove my innocence. I may not have liked Tavish, but I would never have harmed him.â
Jesseâs mouth twitched, a hint of a smile playing at the corners. âYou and Willette are closer than sisters. Why are you throwing her under the bus now?â
Nydia realized that Jesse still didnât believe her.
But that was okay. Sheâd prove herself eventually.
âIf you donât agree with the plan, I wonât do it. Here are the photos I took earlier; Iâll delete them now.â
She deleted the photos sheâd taken earlier in front of Jesseâs eyes.
âDo you think that deleting the stolen plans is enough?â
Nydia was stunned.
âI could call the police on you.â
Jesse stared at Nydia, not missing any changes in her expression.
But Nydia just laughed. âYes, you could. You would be justified in doing so, since I looked at your plans and took pictures without your permission.â
She looked down at her clothes. âIâll go change now.â
After finishing her sentence, she turned and walked towards the door, feeling a bit heroic and ready to sacrifice herself for a just cause, which made Jesse laugh.
âCome back!â He stopped laughing and coldly shouted at her.
Nydia stopped and turned around, looking at him with confusion.
âWait here, Iâll get it,â he said.
Nydia was initially surprised, but then she realized that there was no way he would let her leave the study dressed like that.
She obediently sat on the sofa and didnât move.
Soon, Jesse returned with a skirt and threw it at her.
Nydia didnât know where to change, as the study was small and there were no partitions.
âChange here,â Jesse looked at her deliberately, with no intention of leaving.
She hesitated for a moment while holding the skirt, then nodded and stood up.
She began to take off her clothes, leaving only bit of fabric on her upper body. She took it off and started to take off her pants.
Today she was wearing jeans and a shirt.
While taking off her pants, she looked up and met Jesseâs eyes. She saw his eyes were clear but also cold and indifferent. She sneered in her heart, thinking that Jesse was probably looking at her as if she were a piece of meat.
However, she missed the faint flame rising in Jesseâs eyes.
âWhy are you still dawdling when you havenât put on the skirt?â Jesse urged Nydia when he noticed her slowing down.
âThe front and back of this skirt are difficult to tell apart, and thereâs a lining inside. Itâs a bit troublesome to put on,â she replied, but she was deliberately stalling.
Jesse immediately regretted choosing such a troublesome skirt.
This damn woman!
He felt his throat tighten.
