Ch.11 Close Friends

The Hybrid ( BOOK I & II)

--Caroline pictured above--

"Genevieve, this is my mother Caroline. Caroline this is Genevieve Van Acker, a very close friend." I shook the tall woman's hand, though I was confused as to why he introduced me as his 'close friend'. His face revealed nothing but I'm sure he felt my confusion through our mate bond. He gave me a quick glance, a small smile on his face before he looked back to his mother.

"Where is Julian?" Remy asked his mother after placing a chaste kiss on her cheek.

"The Bakery, MJ wasn't feeling to good this morning so we stayed home." Caroline replied, pushing her blonde hair behind her ear. The worry on her face was not be unseen.

"I'll go check on her. Is Lily upstairs with her?"

Caroline gave a small nod, before voicing out a 'yes'.

"I'll be back in just a sec, OK?" I fought against a grin as Remy looked at me with big puppy eyes, like he was asking for my permission.

"Sure, I'll stay down here with you if that's OK?" I said, directing the last part at Caroline, who simply smiled. Remy nodded and then made his way up the wooden stairs. The house, as far as I could tell was designed in a modern Victorian style.

I turned back to his mother giving her a small smile. Caroline wasn't old at all, probably around forty or her late thirties. That had me questing Remy's age. What if I was older than him? Even so, he couldn't' be much younger than me.

"And off he goes." She chuckled. " Oh, I'm sorry can I offer you anything to drink coffee, tea, maybe something to eat? I still have some blueberry muffins from this morning." She offered, as she led me into her surprisingly large kitchen.

"I could use a cup of coffee, thank you." I took a seat at the kitchen bar, while she pored steaming coffee into a black mug for me.

"Sugar, milk or cream perhaps?" She asked, pouring herself a cup of coffee.

"This will do." The room fell silent after that, neither of us bringing up some type of conversation. Though the silence was gone after seconds when the phone began to ring. Caroline jumped out of her seat and walked over to the other side of the room, to answer the phone.

It didn't feel right just sitting there and basically eavesdropping on her conversation. The way she was talking quiet with her back turned to me, was enough to know that it was definitely a private conversation.

I stood up and made my way towards the wooden stairs Remy had gone up. I could faintly hear laughing coming from the second floor. I was unsure of what I should do. It would be rude if I just started wondering around their house on my own. I didn't have to ponder long when a pair of loud footsteps were heard as the laughing continued.

My heart was pounding in my chest. I was excited to meet the most important person in his life, Mary Jane. My smile got bigger when I heard a loud giggle. The laughing got louder as they came into view. My heart dropped to my stomach at the sight.

It wasn't the sweet little girl in Remy's arms or the way she looked so fragile up close, despite the huge smile on her heart shaped face. It was the other girl or should I say woman on his back. Her arms wrapped around his neck, her long legs around his waist. I hope that's his other sister he forgot to mention, I thought to myself.

I didn't want to be the jealous girlfriend who was always suspicious of everything her boyfriend did. Was I even his girlfriend? Being someones mate was definitely more than being someones girlfriend. I didn't mind if we took the whole dating thing slow. It was new territory for both of us. Yet in the back of my mind I knew it would be a challenge for us.

I glanced away and caught Remy's gaze, who had an apologetic look on his face. Though it quickly vanished when he looked at his sister, plastering a big smile on his face.

As they reached the bottom of the stairs, I made sure I had my jealousy in check and smiled. The woman on his back jumped off and stood beside him as she looked me over with a soft smile on her face.

Remy gently set Mary Jane on her feet. The sight was adorable; Remy who stood at almost seven foot, stood next to his sister who was really small, barely reaching his waist. She waved at me, with a wide smile on her face. I smiled back stepping closer to the trio.

Mary Jane had short dirty blond curls, a pink glitter headband upon her head. You could barely tell she had suffered from leukemia. Her body looked fragile but her big smile was definitely contagious.

Remy moved over to stand beside me before introducing me. "Genevieve this is Mary Jane."

"MJ this is Genevieve, my special friend I told you about." He grinned, sending a wink her way, to which she giggled.

"And I'm Lily, a close friend of the Black family and Remy's best friend." So her name is Lily, I thought as I shook her hand. Even though her smile was nothing but friendly, her dark brown eyes warned me to be cautious around her.

After lounging in the living room for a while, Remy informed me that he was going to go get the cold medicine from his mother and then we'd be on our way to his house. I was left in the spacious room with Lily, who sat calmly across from me on the dark couch. Mary Jane had rushed back upstairs, saying she forgot something. The silence wasn't really awkward, it was more just silence between two people who didn't know each other.

"So where are you from?" Lily asked.

"Miami." I replied. "What about you? Did you grow up here or ...?"

"I was born in Boston but now I'm here." She smirked, applying make up and lipstick. I noticed her skin was flawless and pale. I wondered if she was a vampire or just naturally pale.

"That's nice." I spoke unsure of how to reply. She seemed occupied anyway with perfecting her appearance.

"Not to be rude or anything but how long do you plan on staying?" That's not rude at all, I thought sarcastically.

But before I could even think of an answer Mary Jane stepped into the room with a small pink suitcase at her feet. She left her mini sized suitcase by the door way before plopping down next to me on the couch.

"Lily are sleeping over too?" She questioned, pushing back a big curl. I smiled as I realized MJ would be staying over at Remy's place. Though I didn't think I could hold the smile in place if Lily was staying too. I didn't want to jump to conclusions but I was smart enough to know that Lily wasn't so fond of me.

"Yeah, I think I will that way I can get to know Genevieve a little better." She smiled. "I'll go see if he is ready."

Mary Jane and I were sitting in a comfortable silence before I thought to end it. "So how long have you known Lily?" I asked out of pure curiosity.

"We met Lily in the hospital when I got sick." She said, as she retied her purple converse. "But I'm all better now."

I smiled, just when Remy and Lily stepped back into the living room.

"Lily can you go help MJ grab another set of Blankets out of the closet. We'll meet you in the car." Remy spoke before taking my hand and leading me out of his mothers' house.

"You won't mind MJ staying with us tonight, right?" He asked once we were seated in his car.

"Of course not Remy. She's really sweet." I admitted, glancing at our intertwined hands. His hand was big, rough and just overall manly.

"I can already tell she likes you." He smiled pecking my cheek.

The backseat doors opened as the girls got in, MJ sitting on a Powerpuff girls booster seat.

Remy looked back to make sure MJ had on her seat belt before backing out of the driveway. "Lily, I'm dropping you off at your house?" He questioned, glancing at her quickly.

"I thought I'd sleep over and get to know Genevieve better." She invited herself over again. I mentally rolled my eyes. Why get to know me, when you already don't like me?

"I guess, if Genevieve is up for it." He replied hesitantly.

"Sure." I replied. I wasn't going to make a scene. If anything that is what she wanted.

Remy's house was amazing. It wasn't a mansion or even really big but it was very nice. From the living room you had a nice view of the ocean. The decoration in the whole house was modern compared to his mothers' house. The second floor consisted of the master bedroom and MJ's room, both connected to en suites. I wasn't really surprised that Remy gave his sister her own bedroom in his house. You could tell she really meant everything to him.

The downstairs was quite larger, probably why I was lost. I was originally on the search for the guest bathroom. But every doorway I went through seemed to lead to just another room of some sorts. I was at the last door, that had a child lock on it. Without thinking, I unlocked the hook and pushed the door open. I quickly stepped into the dark cold room. I searched blindly for the light switch, before flicking it on.

The room was small and cold with not a single window to let light in. My eyes landed on shackles, chains, ropes and a small freezer. I was shocked and scared. It looked like a freaking torture room! Suddenly I heard footsteps down the hall. I hurriedly turned off the light with a shaky hand and stepped out the room. I was fumbling with the damn lock when I got caught.

"What are you doing?"
