VS - Chapter 10

The Vampire's Pet (Published) Book 1 and 2

Rose's eyes slowly opened as a blurry haze crowded her vision. A high ringing echoed throughout her ears, and she could faintly hear echoes of what sounded like voices around her. She moved her hand slightly and felt as pins and needles shot through her entire body. She closed her eyes as the lights became too much for her. She felt something grab both of her shoulders and gently shake her. She opened her eyes again and saw that it was Erik.

Once he saw that she was awake, he slowly helped her sit up. Once she was entirely sat up, she placed her head in one of her hands as she got a headache. She glanced to the side and saw Joey doing the same thing she was doing.

A few seconds went by, and the voices that she heard from Erik became more clear, and the ringing stopped. Her body soon became un-numb, and the pins and needles ceased.

"What... happened?" Rose asked in almost a whisper. Erik crouched down to her level and gave her a sympathetic look.

"They took everyone but us," he said. "You finally woke up once I pulled this out of you," he said as he held up something silver. Rose slowly reached up and grabbed it with her shaking hand. She had convinced herself that what had happened was a dream but what she held in her hand confirmed that it wasn't.

What she held in her hand looked like a silver bullet, but with a small needle at the tip of it. She slowly turned the bullet around in her hand and saw a clear streak to where you could see into the bullet. She could faintly see a drop of an offset yellow against the glass.

"Tranquilizer," Rose mumbled to herself. As the word excited her mouth images of Lilly, Harper, and her kids falling to the ground as the tranquilizer stuck out of their chests flashed into her mind. Without saying or doing anything else, she teleported back to the house.

As soon as she was there, she looked around for any sign of life. The house was empty. There was no noise. No mess. Nothing to indicate that people had broken into their home and taken the majority of them. Rose ran around the house looking for any mistake that the people could have made involving leaving behind any clues. She couldn't even find the point where they had broken in.

Rose walked up to her kid's rooms and cupped her hand over her mouth as she took in the empty rooms. It was quiet, and she hated it. She missed the noise of Violet yelling at Kaden for doing something wrong and Kaden always screaming like a girl in fear. She missed the sound of plastic hitting plastic as Kaden would sword fight with anyone. She missed hearing Violet talking to her stuffed animals. She missed everything that she thought slightly annoyed her.

She walked into Lilly's and Joey's room and picked up all the photos Lilly had taken with her polarized camera. She remembered Lilly following Henry and her around to take pictures for Lisa's scrapbooks. She started to sob uncontrollably as she recalled being separated from Lilly when they were younger. The only difference this time was that Lilly was the one being taken, not Rose. Images flashed into her head of being dragged away from her family and not long after horrific things happening to her, she only prayed that those things weren't happening to Lilly.

She managed to compose herself enough to be able to walk into her room. She walked over to Henry's side of the bed and dropped down to her knees as she clutched the sheets tightly in her hand. She and Henry had already been through so much. She had already been taken away from Henry, and he had been taken away from her. Images of what each of them had been through flashed in her head and she cried even harder not knowing what everyone she loved was going through.

After a couple more minutes she finally teleported back to the cabin. Once there she just stood in front of the couch as uncontrollable sobs and hiccups exited her mouth. Joey stood up from the couch and hugged her very tightly, pressing her head into his chest. He felt as she shook her head.

"Th-there's no-nothi-ing," Rose managed to choke out. She felt as Joey's grip around her loosen as he pulled away. She looked up at him and saw that tears were streaming down his face.

Thoughts of what had happened to Lilly entered his mind, and he clenched his fists in anger. The lights around them flashed on and off as almost a buzzing noise filled the air. Sparks flew from a few of the light bulbs as random parts of the house became dark.

Erik looked around and slightly backed up in fear of not knowing what was happening. Rose despite seeing that Erik was somewhat confused and scared allowed Joey to continue to use his powers because he had just lost his wife.

Rose closed her eyes as more tears rolled down her face.

Henry? Rose said, trying to communicate with Henry. There was no response. Rose knew something was terribly wrong because if Henry wasn't responding, he was either passed out or not strong enough to use his powers. She would continue to try and communicate with him, but for the time being there was nothing. Everyone Rose loved had been taken away from her all in a matter of seconds, and she didn't have the slightest clue as to where any of them where or why they were taken.

Henry's eyes slowly opened and he was met with darkness. His body was numb and yet sore. He slowly sat up but winced in pain when pins and needles shot through his entire body. He glanced to the corner of the room where the man had been sitting and saw that only the chair was there.

He looked around the room and saw that he was in a weird prison cell. He was in an actual room with a bed and chairs, a comfy bed as well. The walls were painted an offset white, and a single light fixture was on the ceiling. The floor was a dark grey color, but had the texture and looked of stained wood. The bed he was on had dark grey covers and a grey bedframe. There was a chair in the corner of the room that was also a dark grey, and it looked plush and comfortable. He noticed that the legs were nailed down to the ground so he couldn't use it as a weapon. There was a dark grey clock that rested on an otherwise baren wall. A door was open on the wall between his bed and the chair. He saw a bathroom beyond the door. The only indication he had that he was in a cell was the polished silver metal bars that made up an entire wall. Right in front of his cell was another cell.

He tried communicating with Rose but found the tranquilizer had made him too weak.

He slowly stood up and stretched, his back popping from laying in bed for so long. All the sudden the lights turned on. Henry shielded his eyes with his hand and blinked several times to try and adjust his eyes. He heard footsteps walking towards him, and he opened his eyes to see who it was. He saw the same man from yesterday carrying Harper and Lilly. He opened the cell across from his cell and laid them on the bed. Henry gathered himself more and managed to barely make it to the bars. He looked at Harper and Lilly and saw that they were still breathing, relief came over him.

The man walked away, and Henry waited for him to bring in Erik, Joey, or Rose, but instead when the man returned he saw his kids. One in each of his arms. The man walked by so fast Henry didn't have a chance to say or do anything. He braced his weight on the bars as his legs began to shake in utter disbelief. His family was here with him. He would rather suffer forever if it meant they didn't have to get hurt.

The man walked back, and this time Henry had time to react. He grabbed the man by the collar of his shirt and slammed him against the bars. The man waved his hand and Henry was thrown away from the bars. He slid across the ground as he grunted in pain. The sadistic Henry was standing over him. He grabbed Henry by the collar of his shirt and lifted him off the ground. He threw Henry against the wall, and he crumbled to the ground.

The man waved his hand again, and the sadistic Henry disappeared. Henry slowly got to his feet and looked at the man.

"You know, I prefer face to face interaction, not face to fist," the man said sarcastically.

"Who are you?" Henry asked. He found his voice to be slightly hoarse.

"You can call me Dylan. I'm the Leader of Forever Enduring Reality, or at least that's what I like to call it, I feel like having my own little organization connects me to my brother."

"Why am I here? Why is my family here?"

"You may have known my brother. He was the Leader of the Special Units Force. His name was Rick." Henry now met his eyes fully and walked until his chest was almost touching the bars. He wished he could kill Dylan right here and now, but it seemed everytime he even went to hurt him Dylan would somehow cause a more sadistic Henry to appear.

"After I was told what you did for your girlfriend I became amused. How can a vampire, especially one whose father was tortured by humans, come to love one?"

"I never knew Phil was one of the ones who was tortured," Henry said. Dylan nodded his head.

"Phil is a secretive man." There was a short pause. "Anyway, I wanted to know how a brain like yours works and coexists with your vampire side. But from seeing your greatest fear, your vampire side, I now see that you two don't get along. But this has me thinking as to how strong your vampire side is, he seems stronger than you by a long shot. I also wondered how you kept your thirst for blood under control."

"What does that mean for my family and me?"

"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt them. I've seen what torture does to people, especially my brother and your father, and I hate it. They're just here so they won't get in my way."

"So what's going to happen to me?"

"I'm just going to starve you until your vampire side comes out so I can study it more because you are a rare creature."

"How did you even know where me and my family were?"

"I had some help," as he spoke these words Phil stepped out from the shadows. He looked like he was going through hell. He had very dark circles under his eyes and the under part of his eye was pink. The white part of his eyes was bloodshot. Dog tags hung from his neck and rested on his shirt. Henry recognized the dog tags like the ones that Dylan had around his neck.

Henry finally decided he had had enough of Phil. He needed to know what caused Phil to go to this extent. In an instant, he reached out his hand and placed it on the side of Phil's head.

"Before vampires took over," Henry stated. Soon Henry felt himself traveling through Phil's head until he landed on the memory he wanted.
