Chapter 6 (REWRITE)
The Vampire's Pet (Published) Book 1 and 2
Rose was asleep on the ground, in one of the only spots where the floor still remained intact. Her sister had just woken up and was stretching; her parents were already up and packing what little they had. They had only been living in the remains of the house for two days. The house had black marks where a fire had been, and the four walls were barely standing. Part of the roof had a hole in it, allowing light to come through in the corner of the house. Even though the house was destroyed, it was one of the only shelters they had found. However, they had to keep moving.
"It's time to get up Rose, we have to go soon," her dad said as he continued to pack his bag, running his fingers through his long, dirty, and tangled hair.
"Five more minutes, dad," Rose said as she snuggled closer to the blanket. Her mother walked over to her and pulled the covers off of her. Rose groaned out of annoyance and sat up. She slowly woke up and started to gather her things. Picking up the one book she had, she carefully placed it in her bag, trying not to damage it anymore than it already was.
Without warning, the door burst open. Within seconds, vampires were invading the house. Rose's dad tried to reach the bag that had their weapons, but he was grabbed and thrown against the wall. Everyone else soon met the same treatment.
A vampire stared at them intensely â he was the Shopkeeper, trying to figure out which humans he wanted in his shop. He tapped his finger against his lip as he thought.
"Her," he said as he pointed to Rose. A vampire picked Rose up and threw her into the Shopkeeper's arms before she could react. He wrapped one arm around her, holding her arms in place.
"No!" Rose's dad screamed as he stood up, but he was pushed back against a wall. The vampire put his foot on her dad's chest. He pressed down, hard. Rose's dad groaned in pain.
"Please, not my baby girl. Please," Rose's dad tried to plead with them. Even though Rose was the older sibling, her dad always called her his baby. Mostly because she looked more like him, while her sister looked like their mother, having dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. The vampire grabbed Rose's dad by the collar of his shirt. He lifted him off the ground and slammed him against the wall. Rose's dad groaned in pain as he hit the floor. Rose's mom covered her mouth with both hands as her sister began to cry.
The Shopkeeper grabbed one of Rose's hands and brought it up to his mouth. She struggled as she saw his fangs descended. He pricked her finger as he tasted her blood.
"AB Negative." He sounded slightly surprised before a smile lit up his face, his fangs on full display. "Haven't had that in a few years." His eyes looked to the rest of the family and his smile fell. "I don't need any more of them. You boys can have a snack."
"NNOO!" Rose screamed as she struggled in his grasp. His arm didn't move. She kicked toward him and grabbed his arm, trying to pry or at least loosen his grip, but to no avail.
A vampire picked up Rose's dad. He shoved him against the wall and held her father's hands together with one hand. His other hand latched into the dad's hair and held his head in place. He leaned down and pierced his neck.
Rose's dad held in a scream as he bit down on the side of his mouth. He wouldn't give these monsters the satisfaction that they wanted. He struggled, causing him more pain and making an involuntary painful grunt sound from his mouth.
Rose closed her eyes and turned her head away.
"Look," the Shopkeeper said as he grabbed her chin and turned it in the direction of her father. She wouldn't open her eyes. "Look, or I will literally rip your mom and sister apart while they are still alive." She needed to learn to obey, even if she didn't want to. Pets obey!
Rose opened her eyes as her vision clouded from tears. She watched as her dad's legs fell from beneath him. But the vampire held him up. Every second that passed, Rose watched as the color drained from his skin.
Her dad looked at her and mouthed with shaking pale lips, "I love you." His eyes slowly closed and he stopped resisting the creature. The vampire continued to drink for a few more seconds before he dropped the father on the ground.
The vampire licked his lips, savoring the remaining blood on his mouth. Rose stared in horror at her dad's dead body. What was left of his blood came out of his neck, creating a small pool against his face and chest. His once tan skin was now pale from blood loss. He barely resembled what he had looked like, now it was more or less a shell.
Another vampire walked up to Rose's mom and picked her up. Holding her wrist with one hand, he pinned her against the wall. He roughly grabbed her hair and slammed her body against the decayed wood. The force was so great that cracks were created against the black wood. The vampire loosened his grip and watched as the mom's head swayed from side to side and her eyes began to roll to the back of her head.
His fangs descended and he bit into her neck.
"NO, NO, NO. PLEASE, STOP IT!" Rose yelled as she started to cry. Her pleas only gained laughter from the Shopkeeper.
Rose's mother finally screamed, not being able to contain it anymore. Her feet fell beneath her as she was held up. Before she closed her eyes, she was dropped to the ground. Her skin was pale and blood drained from the holes in her neck.
The last vampire in the group walked up to Rose's younger sister and pulled her up by the hair. She grabbed his arm with both her hands, trying to release the pressure. She struggled in his grasp and kicked him in the stomach and chest. The resistance only made the vampire's grip tighten.
"I like a little fight in my food," he said. Before she could fight him off, a searing pain entered her neck. She had been bitten.
She braced her hands on his shoulders, trying to push away but the struggling only caused more pain. Immediately , she screamed and wailed in pain and cried.
"Rose, help me. PLEASE HELP, ROSE!" Her voice got fainter and fainter. Her eyes pleaded with Rose.
"PLEASE DON'T DO THIS, PLEASE LET HER GO!" Rose screamed. Tears began to freely run down her face at the aspect that she was the old sibling and yet she couldn't protect her sister.
"No, my dear. We can't let anybody stay alive except you," he whispered into her ear.
Rose's sister closed her eyes, her entire body went limp. The vampire let her go, and she hit the ground; her skin was pale, but not as pale as their parents'. The vampire licked his lips.
The Shopkeeper finally let Rose out of his grasp. She ran toward her mother and frantically grasped onto her mom's weak frame.
"M-mom," Rose stuttered as she looked at her mom's almost lifeless body. More tears rolled down her cheeks and her throat began to burn.
Her mom slowly opened her eyes and looked up at her. "I-I love y-you," she said as a tear escaped her eyes. She reached up her hand and brushed Rose's cheek, wiping away a tear, before her eyes closed, and her hand went limp.
"M-mom, please... MOM, PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE, PLEASE!" Rose begged. An arm was placed under her stomach, and she was lifted off the ground. She watched as her family stayed in small pools of their own blood, everyone lifeless.
Rose screamed again, almost wishing for that fate. She knew what was going to happen to her. She was going to be taken to a pet shop where she would eventually be bought by a vampire and become his Pet.

Henry removed his hand from the side of Rose's head.
Rose started to cry, not caring anymore if this would earn her a slap to the face. She didn't expect Henry to understand; he was a vampire, and she was a human. Vampires don't care about humans, Rose thought as she looked down.
Henry pulled her into his embrace, allowing her to cry on his shoulder.
"W-Why?" Rose choked out.
"Why what?" Henry asked as he continued to comfort her.
"Why are y-you nice to me? I don't d-deserve anything you have given me!" It didn't matter what she said anymore, she was going to be punished regardless.
"Rose, those are basic things that you of all people deserve."
"But I-I'm your Pet and you're m-my Master!" The words sounded like venom.
Henry was silent for a moment. He had never heard Rose this vocal or forthcoming. "When are you going to understand that I don't care that I'm a vampire and you're a human? I definitely don't care that I'm your Master and you're my Pet," he murmured.
Slowly, Rose's tense body relaxed into his as that realization hit her. She hugged him back and cried even harder, but they were tears of joy. She had only known kindness from her family. That all changed when she was taken. From that point on, she only knew abuse. Sympathy and love were things that only existed in her past, and the thought that they could still exist nearly made Rose break down. She cried on his shoulder, her arms wrapped around him, and her legs curled up on his lap.
They stayed like that until Rose eventually fell asleep in his arms, her head still resting on his shoulder.
