chapter 48

Serendipity

SerendipityEpisode-48“Dad, stop her… she’s not in the frame of mind to think calmly right now,” Purab said, his voice tinged with worry as he watched the tense expression on Megha’s face.“Oh, I understand that, but has anyone ever been able to stop her? Tell me,” his dad replied.“Dad, I just don’t want this to affect the contract,” Purab said anxiously.“I know, Purab. But I also wanted you to lead this project. When Prakash insisted that Megha should head it, I couldn’t say no.”“It’s fine, Dad. It doesn’t matter who leads as long as SWC secures the project,” Purab said, trying to sound unconcerned.“Yes… but are you truly okay? You put in just as much effort.”“I’m fine, Dad. Really. We both contributed, and she did the presentation. It’s not easy to earn the praise of Rajiv Mehra and Prakash Sannyal. This is a golden opportunity for Megha’s career. Besides, with the Raheja project starting in May, I’ll be traveling between Mumbai, Delhi, and Singapore. I wouldn’t be able to give Supreme the dedication it requires.”“Oh, but who will explain that to Megha? I don’t understand why she’s so upset with Rajiv Mehra. She even refused the award at the ceremony that day…”“I thought Rajiv made a blunder with her, but she seemed fine afterward. Did she ever mention anything about Rajiv to you?”“No, Dad… I vaguely remember her saying something about Women’s Day that day. Maybe that’s why… but I’m not sure if she actually has anything against Rajiv.”“There must be something else… she was more upset seeing her name in the contract than happy to get the project. Anyone else would have been thrilled at a big project like this—and she cares deeply about your career.”“Then, Dad, that’s what makes her special… that’s why I…” Purab trailed off, glancing at his phone, trying to hide his thoughts.“So, what are you trying to say?” his dad asked, sensing more in Purab’s words.“No, nothing… I’m just concerned about her,” Purab replied, eyes still on his phone to avoid meeting his dad’s gaze.Bhaskar Gupta looked at his son thoughtfully. Purab, I know what’s on your mind… You have feelings for Megha. I understand your care and love for her. But I don’t know how to bring this up with you. Because I know Megha thinks of you as a good friend. She hasn’t even considered remarriage since… well, since Sameer. Even if I were to propose the idea,I doubt she’d be able to accept you fully as a partner. Relationships without mutual desire don’t tend to last… And you know this too. That’s why you avoid the topic.“Yes, Purab, she is special,” his father said thoughtfully.“That’s why we’re best friends, Dad… Please do something, or else… there’ll be a third world war between Rajiv and Megha.”“Talking to Rajiv won’t help much. I’ll call Prakash… he’s the one who brought up Megha’s name in the first place.”“Prakash Sir? He seemed pretty impressed by Megha. But he’s only considering her for her professional skills, right?” Purab asked, a bit skeptical.“I already discussed it with Prakash, and he’s congratulated Megha… but at lunch, he seemed curious about her personal life… asking if she’s married or has children.”“Why was he curious about that?”“I don’t know… but when I told him about Megha’s situation—that she’s a single mother raising a daughter alone—he seemed genuinely moved. He even expressed admiration that Arya is ten years old and being brought up so well.”“He wants to meet Arya?” Purab asked, surprised.“Yes, he said he would love to meet her. He imagines she’s a lot like Megha—brave and hardworking.”“Yes, Arya is a lot like her mother,” Purab replied, smiling.“But I think Megha should take a step back and consider this project more calmly. This is a life-changing opportunity for her.”To be continued....© ®️ Meghna_Yadav 2021Special Thanks to friend Gayatri and my loving daughter, my buddy.Hello Readers,Illuminate the five stars of ratings with your gentle touch.
