Chapter 56

Girl Next Door ✔️

Day one.

We are given the task to climb on the bridge, and collecting the colored flag which represents our team.

But,

The bridge is broken. Not completely. But it shakes alot when you're walking on it.

And one should remember not to look down.

After collecting the flag, we need to tug it in the rock with our color represented in the particular rock.

But, that's not it. We need to do all that in five minutes.

Our team was representing green color while Cole's team was representing blue color.

Only two members could participate for each team.

The first one to reach gets forty points, and the second one gets thirty, while the third one gets twenty.

Blake and Brody were taking part from thier team, while from mine, Jessica and Jordan.

I looked over at Jessica, who was preparing herself.

"You remember the plan right?" I whispered.

She smirked before nodding.

Jessica, Jordan, Brody, Blake and all the other participants stood in the start line, waiting for the teacher to ring the bell.

As soon as the bell rang, all of them ran off.

But, since the bridge was broken and shaking, many came back half way.

My eyes searched for Jessica when I noticed that Brody was taking the lead, and Blake and Jordan shortly after him.

I spotted Jessica because of her red hair.

She was running a little slow, as she subtly bent down, and took out the red paint from her pocket before applying it on her knee.

Yes. She's doing it all right.

Bethany was standing beside me, as she worriedly watched the race.

I saw Jessica fake crying loudly as she fell on the bridge.

Since not many people were on the bridge, Brody was quick to turn around to watch Jessica.

He panicked as he ran back, towards her.

But till the time he noticed that everything was fake, the bell went off.

Meaning someone completed the task.

Since I was busy noticing Jessica, I turned to look at Bethany who saw who won.

"Who?" I asked

Please be Jordan.

Bethany looked carefully at me, as she sighed.

I still couldn't see who won.

Talk about being short.

"Hey, who won?" I asked her again.

"Blake. Jordan was second." She said, dissapointedly.

"Oh, fuck." I said, feeling dissapointed as well.

"I told you that we shouldn't cheat. We are never going to win the challenge." Bethany said, and I rolled my eyes.

"There are two more rounds. We can do this." I said, cheering her up a little.

I just hope we clear round two before Cole's team.

Day two.

The task which we were given today was to swim all across the lake, filled with cold water, before reaching to the other end and taking out the other flag which was tucked inside the soil.

It was a cold day.

But, swimming happens to be my only talent.

George was the one who taught me how to swim, just so I can defeat Tyler.

Which I did. But that doesn't mean that Tyler was a weak swimmer. He was the fastest swimmer in the whole town, and the only person who broke his record was me.

Only because he challenged me.

I wrapped my towel properly, as I walked out of the changing area.

It was so cold here.

Winter's coming. It's chilly.

I spotted Bethany and Jessica standing a little a far, talking to each other.

"Hey." I said, reaching near them.

"Ready?" Jessica asked me, and I nodded.

"No cheating this time, Okay?" Bethany said, as I nodded.

"Aha. I knew you'd cheat." Ryder said, appearing from Bethany's behind.

I rolled my eyes.

"So, what?" I asked him.

"You still didn't win." He pointed out.

"Just ten points less. We'll win." I said, securing my towel.

"Cole's going from our team." Ryder stated, proudly.

"Xandra from ours." Jessica said, patting my shoulder.

I was actually scared, because I couldn't see the river's other side due to fog.

Damn it's cold.

I heard the whistle, as I left my friends, walking towards the start point.

I noticed Cole standing there, with all his glory.

He had a black swimming tanks, with no towel. He was exercising.

I noticed girls checking him out. I rolled my eyes.

I stood beside him, as I dropped my towel.

I wore a navy blue one piece swimming suit.

He still didn't notice me standing as he stretched his arms.

Damn his biceps.

"Stop checking my best friend out." I heard Ryder say, as I turned to look at him.

Ryder smacked the back of Connor's head when Connor didn't listen to him, and was staring at me.

I chuckled out before turning back and staring at Cole shamelessly.

Only to find him staring at me already, or my body.

"Hey." I said, smiling a little at him.

He looked up at me, as he turned to look at someone behind me.

I turned to look at that someone too.

It was Connor, who was staring at my ass.

I rolled my eyes before looking back at Cole.

Cole didn't say anything, as he pulled me in for a kiss.

Not a passionate kiss, but a lips swelling hard and urgent kiss.

Still that green apple taste.

His lips were moving fast against mine, as he took a hold of my waist and pulled me closer.

I ran a hand through his soft brown hair, tugging it a little.

We had to pull away when I was finding it hard to breath.

Cole cupped my face with his hands, as he rested his head against mine.

I could feel his fast breath, and so could he.

"That's a sudden change in mood." I said, between breaths.

He didn't say anything. He kept staring at me.

"Is something wrong, babe?" I finally asked him.

"It's just that your gorgeous, and boys just can't keep thier eyes to themselves. I hate it when  I see someone checking my girl out. Like, dude, can't you see she's taken? What if they try to impress you? And you get impressed by them? Will you leave me? No wait, I won't let you leave me. In fact, I won't let anyone take you away." He said, acting somewhat like a baby.

I smiled listening to his cute talks.

"How would you do that?" I asked him, cupping his face as well.

"By showing everyone that you're all mine." He said, stubbornly, as he placed a kiss on my head.

"Uh-huh." I responded, amused.

"Say it." He said, once again.

"Say what?"

"That you're mine."

"My inner feminist won't let me."

"Oh come on."

"Not happening."

"Please. Or else I won't talk to you."

I rolled my eyes, as the familiar teacher whistled again.

That teacher seemed familiar, as though I've seen him somewhere.

"On your marks everyone!" He yelled, as everyone got ready.

I positioned myself to jump into the water.

As soon as the whistle went off, I jumped.

It was cold. So cold that I went numb. I couldn't move properly.

I rubbed my palms, as I positioned myself.

I kept my body flat, lying face down in the water with my body kept in line with the water surface.

I next, focused on my arm movement.

Both my arms were moving simultaneously and alternately.

Tilting my head to my right side a little bit, I breathed.

I was the only one laging behind.

I kicked my legs up and down, I started moving faster.

I can do this.

But I can't feel my body. It's numb.

Just move. Don't think much, Xandra.

Moving my arms and legs continously and faster, I moved forward.

Not giving a damn about people around me.

I realized I could see the other side of the river now, even in the fog.

Just a little more.

I moved forward the fastest I could, as I finally reached the end.

I climbed out of water, as I steadied my breath.

I heard water splashes from my beside, as Cole came out of water as well.

He didn't notice me as he started searching for his flag in the fog.

I didn't have to search much, as I spotted the green flag tugged just beside the blue one.

I had to make sure I moved without making a sound, or else coke might find out where his flag is.

I ran.

I subtly heard footsteps behind me but I didn't care.

I had to reach first.

I groaned in pain, as I jumped a little earlier and fell on the ground, while trying to take the flag out.

But at least I had the flag.

The whistle gave off, meaning the third person reached the finish area.

I didn't have any strength left in me, as I sat down.

Rubbing my knee.

Everyone started arriving, just to know who won.

Cole finally spotted me.

"It hurts?" He asked as he sat down infront of me.

He rubbed my sore knee a little.

He muttered something under his breath. But I heard it.

"What did you just say?"

"I never knew kittens were great swimmers."

"Yup. Definitely better than monkeys."

He rolled his eyes. I did that too.

I heard someone clear throat from my front.

I looked up, only to see that brunette teacher who was familiar.

He whistled.

"Alexandra Black is first. Cole Parker second and Anna third." He yelled.

I with Cole's help, stood up.

I was about to go, when the teacher stopped me.

Cole squeezed my hand, as I stared at the teacher.

"It looks like you haven't been practising."

"What?"

"You need to keep practicing. How are you going to defeat Hudson the next year?"

"Yes sir."

I finally remembered who this teacher was. He was the professional swimmer, who had awarded me the trophy when I defeat Tyler.

The teacher walked away as Cole asked me whether I knew who he was.

I told him about my championship.

$$$$

The trip got cancelled, because of harsh weather.

The challenge couldn't be completed because both the teams tied at 70.

I was packing my things back in my bag pack in the tent when I felt my phone vibrate.

I read the message.

Tyler's arrived honey. He'll be there when you reach back.

I quickly tugged my phone in, as I heard someone come in.

He back hugged me.

I planted a kiss on his cheek.

Pulling away, he sat infront of me.

"What are you wearing?" He said, eyeing my denim shorts.

I know it's cold but I don't have other clothes.

"Shorts."

"Aren't you cold?"

"A Little. But it's fine. But why are you upset about it?"

"Connor is going to check you out again."

I rolled my eyes as Cole whined.

Why is he so possessive?

I secretly love that though.

I don't even need to try to make him jealous. He does that himself.

Cole went away, to get me Jessica's jeans, even when I told him not to.

I sighed packing my things in.

I heard someone enter again.

It can't be Cole. He just left.

I turned around only to find Antony stumbling in.

I smelled a little bit of alcohol. He was drunk.

"Hey Xandra." He said, sitting infront of me.

I moved a little back as he came closer.

"Do you need something?"

"I have to confess something."

"Oh okay."

I pulled my hand away as he tried to grab it.

He came closer to me.

"I have seen you for like a year now."

"But it's not even six months since I came here."

"I first saw you in that photo with James, and....I've loved you since then. I couldn't have you that time because you were my brother's girl. And now you're Cole's girl. I just want you to know that I love you. With all my heart." He confessed before passing out on me.

I processed what he just said, as I tried to pull him off me. But I couldn't.

Just at the moment I turned to the entrance, only to find Cole standing there. Shocked.

And, Bethany just entered the tent and stopped.
