Chapter 65

delicate

I heard the front door open, then close. Kai had gone out with his friend Denny to help him pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend. I kept reading the book as he walked into the room. I glanced up at him before looking back down at the page.

"How was it," I asked.

He walked over. He groaned as he moved onto the bed. He climbed between my legs, laying his head on my stomach and wrapping his arms around my body. "Horrible."

I moved a hand to the back of his head and pulled my book toward the bed. I looked down at him as I threaded my fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry, baby."

He hummed in response. I slid my hand to his shoulder. He felt tense. I looked at my book, reading the next page as I massaged his shoulder gently. He moaned softly. I closed the book after finishing the page and sat it down. I moved my other hand to his other shoulder and looked down at him. He pressed his face into my stomach as he moaned.

"You seem stressed."

He lifted his head and looked up at me. He opened his mouth to speak, then smiled. I moved my hands to his biceps. "Yeah."

I slid my hands to his face, "Why?"

"I don't know." The soft look in his eyes was masking the heaviness in his mind, shielding it from me.

I looked over at my phone when it started ringing. Caroline's name was lit up on the screen. I sighed as I reached for it. I pulled my phone to my face after answering the call. "Hey."

"Hey! What are you doing?"

"Nothing. Why?"

"That's such a coincidence because Elena, Bonnie, and I aren't doing anything either! And since none of us are busy... we just might consider going out together. Just a thought-"

"Tonight?"

"Yes."

I let the thought run through my mind for a moment. "I don't know, Care."

"Come on, Ev. Live a little."

Kai moved and sat up in front of me. "Yeah, the last time you told me to live a little, I ended up drugged and assaulted, so I don't really think I'll be taking that advice anymore."

She sighed. "Okay, well... just hang up and think about it. Call me back after."

"Okay, Caroline."

She ended the call. I pulled my phone down from my face and sat it on the nightstand again. I looked at Kai. He was staring in my direction, but his attention was far from this room.

"Kai." After he didn't respond, I leaned forward and grabbed his hand. "Hey."

His eyes found mine as he exhaled slowly. "Hey."

I pulled his hand to my lap. "What's on your mind, babe?"

He shook his head. Words started to form on his lips, but he breathed them away. He looked down at our hands. "Did I ruin your life?"

I wondered how he could blame himself for how my life panned out. "Why would you think that?"

His eyes didn't meet mine, and his focus remained on our hands. "You went to law school at 16. You were supposed to have an easy life that didn't involve my life."

I moved my hand to the side of his face, lifting his head to make him look into my eyes. The sad look in his eyes made my chest feel tight. "No one's life is ever easy. And I never thought I was supposed to have anything. I don't blame you for anything that's happened."

He moved his hand to the one at the side of my face. "So much has happened to you because of what I-"

"No." I tilted my head. "What other people have done to me is what they chose to do. Even if they did it because of something you did, I don't blame you." The guilty look that coated his features lit a match in my mind. He blames himself for what happened.

"I don't deserve you, Evelyn."

I furrowed my brows and shook my head, "Of course you do."

He pulled my hand away. I could see tears forming in his eyes when he looked down. "You should go." He turned away from me.

There was a lump in my throat, making it hard to breathe. "No." I moved closer to him, grabbing his face in my hands and making him look at me again. I stared into his eyes. "I'm not leaving you." I wiped the tears off his face and slid my hands back to rest under his ears.

I felt his hands find my waist after a moment. My eyes darted to his lips just before I gave into the urge to kiss him. He was hesitant to return the gesture. Once he did, his lips were moving slowly against mine. Quiet moans filled the kiss, echoing in the room.

He leaned into me, sliding his hands to my shirt. I pulled back just enough for him to lift my shirt over my head. His cool hands returned to my body, leaving chills on my skin. A hand was against the back of my neck as he laid me back on the bed.

I slid my hands to his chest as he separated far enough to pull his shirt over his head. His body was between my legs.

His eyes found mine, staring into them deeply. I moved my hands to his face, pulling him down to kiss me again. He slid his hand to my waist, caressing my skin gently. His touch was soft and needy.

It only took ten seconds to get the rest of our clothes off. I kept my hands at the side of his face. His eyes poured into mine, keeping his gaze locked on mine. I felt his cock slowly slide into me. My lips parted as I sucked in a breath of air.

His hands found mine, pulling them over our heads. His hands slid from my wrist to my palms. I let his fingers slide between mine. He kissed my lips softly, then rested his head against mine. My eyes fluttered shut as he pushed deeper inside of me. A moan slipped from my lips as he thrusted in and out of me slowly.

His body moved against mine as his cock reached deep inside me. My walls fluttered around him, drawing sensual noises from his throat. I arched off the bed, giving him a new angle. His leisurely speed was making me feel restless.

"Kai," I whined.

He moaned softly. "Evelyn," he growled. He squeezed my hands as he started going faster, drawing a moan from my throat.

He lifted his head from mine, moving it to press a kiss to my neck. His lips didn't leave my skin, sucking and teasing it gently. I screamed out as he thrusted deep inside me, slamming into my g-spot. He kissed up my neck, stopping at my ear.

"Do you want to cum?"

"Mhm," I whined. "Please..." my words bled into a groan.

He stilled inside me, rolling his hips against mine. He pulled out of me slowly, stopping until just the tip of his cock was inside me. "Louder," he demanded. I throbbed without him inside of me.

I dug my nails into his skin and gasped as he slammed inside of me again, rolling his hips into me. "Please!" I moaned loudly as he moved against me, rubbing against my throbbing clit. "Kai!"

He pressed his lips to my neck, trailing soft kisses down to my shoulder as he started fucking me slowly again. He moaned against my skin. His movements became less controlled. He lifted his head, "Open your eyes." His hot breath fanned my cheek.

I forced my eyes open. My eyes darted from his parted lips to his eyes that were clouded by lust. He squeezed my hands as he thrusted into me with finality. His cum shooting inside me set off my orgasm. I struggled to keep my eyes open.

The weight of his body against mine, kept me from squirming beneath him. His eyes shifted to my lips that were parted. A whine that passed my lips intertwined with our moans. He loosened his grip on my hands, but still kept hold of them. His eyes found mine again.

"You okay?"

I was too fatigued to nod. "Mhm."

He kissed me and my eyes fell shut. I moaned when he pulled out of me. He moved off of me slowly, pulling the blanket over us as he laid next to me. I rolled to my stomach and wrapped my arms around the pillow, pulling it under me. I relaxed into the bed, letting the weight of my body press into the mattress.

He was quiet and still. Usually, he says something.

"Kai." After he didn't respond, I forced my eyes open, fighting against my exhaustion. He was staring at the ceiling, his arm resting behind his head and his other hand was resting on his stomach. "Kai," I tried again. There was no response. I pushed up on my arms, "Malachai."

He slowly drew in a breath and glanced over at me for a second before looking at the ceiling again. "Sorry."

"What's wrong, babe?"

His brows were furrowed and the look in his eyes was contemplative. "I saw my mom."

I felt my heart skip. "What?"

After a second, he looked over at me. His eyes were heavy, burdened by his thoughts. "She's alive, and she's trying to find me. Jo called and told me."

My brows pulled together as I processed his words. "I don't understand. How is she alive and why is she looking for you?"

"I don't know."

"Do you want to?"

He didn't respond for a minute. He lifted his hand from his stomach and wound his arm around me, pulling me toward him. I put my hand against his chest. "I don't know." He pulled his hand from around me to push my hair back, his hand rested against my face, his thumb strumming my skin slowly. "I do know that I don't want to think about it right now."

I leaned into his hand, sliding my hand to his stomach. "What do you want?"

A smile spread to his lips as he looked at mine. "You."

I didn't stop the smile that spread across from my lips. "I'm yours."

He moved his hand to the back of my head, bringing me closer and kissing me.
