Chapter 163
FREDA WHITLOCK
âYou canât leave the roomâ. Lyra ordered. âI just want a breath of fresh airâ I groaned exasperatedly, almost tempted to tug at my hair in frustration at Lyraâs protective tone.
We had been arguing for minutes now. I was tired of being cooped up in my room. I just wanted to stretch my legs around but she was having none of it.
âThereâs fresh air here too Fredaâ, she said in a serious tone and crossed her arms as she stared pointedly at me.
âUgh, Lyra. Just let me goâ I raised my hands in frustration. I had a feeling I could go crazy if I stayed a minute longer in the room.
I glanced at the couch and sighed in relief when I saw Cisco was fast asleep. I didnât want him to have to witness his mum losing her wits.
I was used to always working. It killed the bananas out of me that I had to stay confined to my bed.
It was comforting to have my meals being fed to me at first but right now I was tired of it.
I just wanted to see something outside these four cornered white walls. Not that there was anything much to see in the hospital hallway but I was willing to take it if it meant not being here.
Dane, who was still in the room, must have seen the frustration on my face because he spoke up almost immediately. âI would

escort her. Iâm heading out anywayâ. He offered and Lyra loosened her folded arms.
âReally?â, she asked in surprise and he nodded. âOkay then, but donât let her out of your sightâ she warned fiercely and I almost laughed if only my lungs werenât still a bit sore.
I was still connected to a drip but it was a mobile stand, so I could wheel it anywhere. I carefully wheeled the stand out of the room after passing Lyra a playful glare and she groaned.
She was probably regretting her decision of letting me leave but I was leaving anyway. Dane walked closely beside me as he studied me with a foreign expression on his face.
âWhat do you want to say?â I asked when I couldnât bear him staring at me any longer. A stretcher was being wheeled in the hallway and Dane gently guided me to the side to avoid being hurt. I noticed the person on it was dead and I sighed. That could be my fate too.
When it had passed, he turned to me. âAre you sure itâs okay to be moving around like this? Your condition is pretty delicateâ. He said slowly and I sighed.
âI knowâ I revealed and he looked at me quizzically. âWhat do you mean by âyou knowâ ?â he asked in suspicion and I sighed. âI know how bad my condition is. I know I have wolfsbane in my bloodâ. I revealed and he stilled visibly.
We were already some distance away from my ward so I stopped walking.
Iâm surprised you are aware,â he said after a moment of silence. âHmm, I know the effects too. I know thereâs a chance I

might not survive this. I can feel my body system trying to fight off the wolfsbaneâ.
The hands holding the standing grip tightened and I sucked in a deep breath to compose myself.
still hadnât really come to terms with the fact that I could die from this. Everytime I thought about it was just as shocking as the last.
I was putting up a bold front so as not to worry anyone but I wasnât sure how long I could last while pretending I was okay with the possibility of dying.
A wave of dizziness washed over me and I held the stand tighter. I closed my eyes as I waited for it to pass. After it was over, I opened my eyes slowly and saw Dane looking at me with an expression of concern? Pity? I wasnât sure.
Dane seemed conflicted, he was probably lost for words on how to comfort me. I didnât want anyone to feel unnecessarily burdened.
âWhereâs Kaiden?â I swiftly changed the topic and it worked because Dane immediately snapped back to attention.
He had left the ward a while ago and still hadnât returned. Another reason I had decided to go out of my room was also because I hoped to run into him in the hospital hallway.
âHeâs probably in Harperâs wardâ. He replied drawing me out of my thoughts and I knitted my brows in confusion.
Harperâs ward? Was she sick? âWhat happened to Harper?â I asked worriedly.
Dane scratched his head uncomfortably. âI think itâs best if you

hear it from the Alpha himselfâ he said and I frowned. I didnât
like what I was hearing.
âLead me thereâ I said at once.
