Death Keeps Knocking On My Door

Part 1

RECAP

"I guess I didn't want to admit it to you but mostly to myself.." Hope answered honestly.

You nodded, deciding to change the subject. "I'm gonna go to sleep, I'm really tired." You said. "Goodnight, Hope." You looked at her before turning over. You heard as she got off the bed to get changed and ready for bed herself.

"Goodnight." She responded. That was the last thing you heard as you fell into a deep sleep.

————

You woke up, the morning sun warming up your face. You put ear phones in and started listening to music. Hope had told you a couple days ago that remembrance day was coming up and today is that day. Basically you write letters to your lost love ones but you didn't feel it and instead just stay in bed all day. You don't need to write about it, you saw your dad already, and that was a couple days ago, and yet you still haven't moved out of your bed.

Yes, you moved to shower, brush teeth, get food and water but nothing else.

Hope then entered the room and you didn't bother to look up. "I'm not getting out of bed." You spoke up.

"Well, you actually might want to." Hope replied, walking into your sight as you turned off your music.

"Give me one reason." You cocked your head to the side.

Hope sighed. "I can give it to you with one word." Hope started. "Cassie." You looked at her, shocked.

————

You were now dressed and you walked into the main area, where the campfire is. "Cassie?" You called seeing as you saw Rafael on the seat talking to someone. Hope stood behind you.

"Kate?" Cassie replied, turning around. A smile inched to your face and to hers as you both ran into each other's arms. You laughed. Hope looked at you two interact, if she was being honest, she felt jealous but she didn't really show it. "How are you, Kate?" She asked as you both left the hug.

"I'm okay. Could be better." You replied. "You."

Cassie nodded. "Better that I'm here, and you'll pull through it. I know you will." She said.

You smiled. "I'll leave you to be with Raf. Hopefully I'll see you later." You smiled, she nodded and went back to Rafael while you went to Hope. You walked in silence down the hall. "You're jealous. I can feel the energy radiating off of you." You bluntly said.

Hope looked at you. "Me? Jealous?" She shook her head. "Never." Hope stopped looking at you.

"Okay, whatever you say." You shrugged as you entered the basement also known as the werewolf dungeon. "Also, why am I here? I could be in bed." You groaned.

Hope sighed as you both walked down the stairs. "Just, be quiet and let me do the talking. And no, you are not going to bed." Hope ordered. "You've been in that bed for days." Hope argued. You rolled your arms, crossing your arms over your chest. "Dr.Saltzman." Hope called out, you and Hope walking.

The thing looked at you with an offended face. The thing decided to ignore you. "Oh, there you are, lovely girls." He looked at you and Hope.

"I was wondering if you'd come visit me again."

You looked up at the voice. "Oh my god, what is that thing-" You blurt out, looking at it with a disgusted face. "And again? WHy would you want to see that thing again?' Hope looked at you with a 'okay, forget he said that', and with that, you shut up,

The thing looked at you, with a offended. "I am the almighty, Necromancer!" He yelled. You looked at him with a confused face and rolled your eyes. "How's your friend, the one I saw you with earlier, trying to steal an illicit peek at me?" He questioned Hope.

"As we speak he's having an emotional reunion with his dead girlfriend." Hope stated. "I assume we have you to thank?" Hope sarcastically said.

The necromancer watched Hope. "Poor dear. Her spirit was clinging to him like a vine in winter." Great, jokes. "It took barely any effort. Just a little wrinkle of the nose, and, poof! Young love reborn." He stated. "You're lucky that's all I did. The way you've treated a man of my stature, you should be ashamed." Alaric had now walked out of the cell and locked it.

"Literally nobody knows who you are!" You stated, walking closer to the bars.

He grinned. "You're a feisty one." He stated, but then his demeanour changed and he scoffed as he realised what you said. "That's impossible."

You walked back to be besides Hope as you did not like being close to this guy. "I'll check on Raf." Alaric said, walking up the stairs.

"I-If you want an end to this misery, simply bring me the knife and I'll be.. on my way..." He said, grinning again.

You and Hope looked at each other. "Hope! Kate!" Alaric called you out. Obviously wanting us out of there.

Hope walked out while you stayed back for like 3 more seconds before leaving. "Oh.." He said as if he realised something.

You, Alaric and Hope now walked side by side. "I take it things aren't going well?" Hope asked.

"He's a diva." Alaric replied.

You cut in. "So, what's the plan?" You asked.

"We know you don't want to give over the knife, but we can't have him raising the lost loved ones of every person in this school." Hope explained.

You both looked up at Alaric. "I will handle it. I have questions that need answers."

"Okay, well, I'm not sure your methods are the most effective." The auburn haired girl replied quickly.

Alaric turned around, causing all of us to stop. "Hope, I said I will handle it." Alaric repeated. "Now just stay away from him."

Alaric then walked off to Cassie and Rafael. "You're not gonna listen, are you?" You turned to look at her. She looked at you with a knowing face.

"Come on." She grabbed your forearm and dragged you away. The feeling of her touching your skin made your stomach flutter with butterflies.

You remained calm as you just let yourself be dragged by the girl who seemingly enough, already looks like she has a plan.

————

You sat on the table while Hope stood. You were drugged to the library to talk to Dorian. "Find anything yet?" She asked.

"Necromancy is everywhere in occult literature. It's a form of sorcery that dates back to ancient Greece. It involves the ability to communicate with and raise the dead." He paused as he walked down the ladder. "But there's nothing about a specific necromancer, who whoever this dude is, he's been erased from history like every other monster that comes looking for the knife." Dorian explained.

You smacked your lips together as you rolled your head back, bored to death, they started walking off so you followed. "Is there any way to stop him from bringing back dead people? Because if this week is any indication, it's kind of becoming a thing." You asked Hope and Dorian. We came to a stop at a bookshelf.

Dorian looked down at Hope and you. "I'll look into it, but tomorrow's my day off, so it might take a minute."

"Evil never takes a holiday, Dorian." Hope said.

"Well, every year on Remembrance Day, I do. I write my letters, pack my lunch and I head to the cemetery and ring that bell in honor of my dead family." He came to a pause. "So for the next twenty-four hours, ask Dr. Saltzman."

Hope nodded. "Fair. but I'm worried about him. Do you think he's okay?" Hope asked.

"I think after the week he's had, he needs a nap." Dorian replied. He chuckled. "Therapist. Maybe even a vaccination of his own." Hope looked down before looking back up.  "Take these to him for me, would you?" He handed a few books to Hope. "Thanks."

Hope nodded. "Thank you." Hope replied as you both started walking away. When you exited the binary you came to a stop at the place Rafael and Cassie are, just watching as they enjoyed each other's company.

"I just remembered I have something I need to do... so..." Hope looked at you with a confused face but went serious as she realised you were lying. "Goodbye." You lied walking off.

Hope groaned. "Kate!" She yelled, but you ignored her and kept walking.

————

You knocked on the door of Emma's office. "Come in." Was heard on the other side so you opened the door and walked in. "Kate. I wasn't expecting to see you today." Emma looked confused.

You shut the door behind you. "Right, well, I needed to talk to you about Hope." You looked at Emma. She motioned for you to sit down so you did.

"What's on your mind about her?" The Counsellor asked.

You sighed. "Well, we kind of.. told each other we liked each other and nothings changed in between us but, I don't know.." You trailed off.

Emma smiled. "I know I can't tell you this but when I had Hope in here a couple days ago, she was going on and on about someone and I thought it was you." Emma chuckled. "Seems I guessed right." You smiled. "When she said 'oh my gosh, who am I right now?' I just pointed out that it was a crush." Emma said.

You were glad you got told that. "I'm not just here to talk about Hope liking me.. I'm here to talk about what she's going to do with the new monster." You pointed out. Emma motioned for you to continue. "I'm not exactly sure what she wants to do, but, I'm guessing it's not good." You continued.

Emma nodded. "The best thing you can do is probably to help her." You looked back and forth between her eyes. "I mean in way that you don't get too involved with but there to support her. She's obviously reaching out for you so, take it her hand." Emma stated.

You nodded. "Thanks, Emma." You said, getting up. "Hope is probably searching the entire school for me." You chuckled.

"You're welcome." She smiled at you.

Yu opened the door and left the room, walking down the hall way when you felt a hand grasp your forearm. In self defence, you did a spell. Hope had been teaching you in the garden outside, obviously secluded. She didn't want to rock her bed room. "Ventus." You chanted, someone flying back. When you realised who it was, your face went to worry. "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry, are you all right?" You questioned the Mikaelson.

Hope got up from the floor, with the help of you of course and looked you in the eyes. "We should probably teach you a safer, less 'abusive' spell for self defence." Hope joked, causing you both to laugh. "I'm fine." Her demeanour changed quickly when she remembered you stormed off, she slapped your arm, causing you to wince in pain, looking up at her with a confused and shocked face. "Don't do that again." Hope glared at you.

"Okay, jeez." You sent her the same glare back. "Did you speak to the thing in the basement?" You questioned.

Hope looked up at you again. "Necromancer and transitioning cellars. And yes, I did." Hope smirked. You both started walking. "He didn't want to believe he didn't exist, so he had a tantrum."

You cut her off. "Such a baby." You blurted out. Hope nodded in agreement.

"I explained to him what's been coming after the knife, where he was pulled in what felt like eternity then back into the light." Hope continued. "This is when he had his tantrum. He said he isn't a puppet, he said 'it's less of a voice, more an instinct.' so obviously it was to retrieve the knife and return it to Malivore." You nodded in understanding. "Then he said what I wanted him to say, 'if i return the knife to Malivore, I will be free'  then he started explaining a symbol I showed him and it means no one remembers you, he said it means 'permanent death'."

You looked over at Hope. "Well that's not scary, but how is he going to get the knife if he's in a cell?" You trailed off, thinking back to Cassie. Hope saw your realisation.

"What?" She inquired, wanting to know the information.

You both came to a stop, looking Hope in the eyes. "Library, I think I may of just figured it out."
