The Mystery Girl | HOPE MIKAELSON |

I'll Never Give Up Hope

Part 2

————

RECAP

Hope stared up at the older man. "Yeah. See you." Was all she said as she made her way to the school.

Once she returned she made her way to the dock to watch the fireworks. As she did she said bubbles coming from the dip of the dock, fire then hands gripping onto the dock and coming out of the water.

It was Landon.

————

Landon stared up at Hope as Hope stared down at him. "I changed my mind about the fireworks." Was all she said as Landon stared at the fireworks.

He then turned to look at Hope. "It's not a big deal." He responded.

Hope scoffed. "Who do you think you're talking to? Lizzie Saltzman is the queen of self-harm. I know it when I see it." Hope stopped speaking.

Landon stared at Hope, just sitting on the wood deck. "I'm not harming myself because I can't be harmed. That's the point." Landon replied.

Hope pointed at Landon. "Where, in any of your phoenix research, does it say that the number of times that you can resurrect is infinite?" Hope argued.

Landon got up and stared at Hope. "Where does it say it isn't?" Landon questioned, walking past Hope.

Hope watched Landon. "Hurting yourself doesn't make anything better. It never does."  Hope replied.

Landon turned around. "You're right. Maybe I should focus on other people's problems instead of my own but it seems you haven't been doing much of that lately." Landon fired back to Hope.

He didn't realise but he hit a nerve since he didn't realise why you were so focused on your problems. "That's not what I'm saying." Hope replied, looking down.

"That's a lie." Landon accused.

Hope looked back up. "How would you know?" Hope argued.

"Because when you lie as often as I used to, you develop a gut feeling." Landon responded. "I just know." He looked down.

Hope lowered her arms from her chest and put them on her side. "Okay." Hope lowered her voice, becoming calmer. "What are we supposed to do?"

Landon stopped what he was doing. "You tell me. Because, to be honest with you, I'm kind of at a loss." A firework blasted in the distance.

Hope thought of an idea and raised her eyebrows. "Maybe we should both stop worrying so much about dying. Start living a little?" Hope questioned, she needed to get her mind off you.

Hope and Landon spent most of their time together during summer. It really helped Hope get her mind off you. They went out for lunch to talk, watch movies, play guitar, picnic, do barbecues and just in general have fun.

This doesn't mean that Hope liked Landon now. She would always love you but who knows how Landon felt towards Hope.

————

You and Clark walked side by side after escaping the dragon. "How long do you think we've been here?" You questioned Clark.

He shrugged, looking around. "Hard to say. A week? A month? A year? What difference does it make?" He listed timelines off. Just then a roar in the distance was heard. "What the hell was that?" Clark asked, scared.

You moved back a little startled by the roar before chuckling at how scared he was. "Uh, a gargoyle, I think. I got slashed on the chest by it and was unable to move or speak, but my friends saved me." You dragged out 'friends'. "You know, my teenage friends." You tried rubbing it in while Clark acted as if it didn't hurt. "So why is a supervillain like you scared?" You questioned.

You both stayed put where you were, you didn't see this but Clark looked upset. "I'm not a villain. I never have been." Clark walked forward to stand next to you. "I'm just a kid who's afraid of his father and will do anything to get away from him." You and Clark made eye contact but he looked away, you generally felt bad so you put yourself in his shoes. "My entire life's been about figuring out how. And failing miserably." Clark stated.

You looked down before looking back to Clark. Clark looked at you confused. "Papilio Lux." You chanted, a light emitting from your hands as it released a butterfly.

Clark turned to face you as he watched the butterfly. "You think that's our ticket out?" Clark questioned, looking down at you.

Looking away from the butterfly, you looked back into his eyes. "No." You shook your head. "It's a comfort spell." You summarised. "It's-It's supposed to provide peace of mind." You continued.

Clark looked surprised you'd do that for him. "Thank you." He said, grateful, you smiled at him.

Just then the cyclone came again but Clark put his hand around your arm. "Why'd you do that?" You questioned.

"Do what?" He acted as if you didn't know.

Just then there was clicking and snarling all around you two. "Oh crap." You both said at the same time.

Whatever it was came at you and you gasped. "Invisique." You moved your hand ove your face, becoming invisible.

"Meaning?" Clark questioned, scared.

You breathed in and out rapidly. "I'm invisible to them." You looked around, staying still.

Clark looked at you. "You're invisible. What about me?" He questioned but didn't get a response. You gasped as whatever it was was putting its hand next to Clark.

You closed your arms, not wanting to look at the creature as you breathed heavily. Tears welled in your eyes as it sounded gross and it was terrifying. They then went away and you let out a heavy breathe, relieved, quickly wiping your eyes. "Guess we're partners after all." Clark said, smirking as he walked around you.

"I didn't say that." You responded.

"But you did just save my life." Clark reminded you.

You glared at him. "Because you're keeping things from me, and I need to know why." Clark shook his head as if he didn't know. "Veritas Tempus." You chanted.

Clark stared at you. "Who you stop with the magic already? It's not fair." Clark sulked like a little kid.

You rolled your eyes. "Think before you answer. Is it unfair, or do you deserve it?" You questioned, annoyed he was keeping stuff from you.

Clark scoffed, thinking but his mouth said what he didn't want to. "I totally deserve it." Clark said without realising. You smiled as he scrunched up his face. "What? Wh-Why-Why did I just say that?" He stumbled on his words.

You cocked your head to the side. "Because I casted a truth spell. You can only answer me honestly." You briefly explained. "Now, how does that make you feel?" You questioned him again.

"Like this isn't gonna end well for me." He immediately responded with the truth. Grunting as he couldn't tell a lie.

————

Hope followed Landon into the Old Mill. "I bring him dinner every day at five. I mean, sometimes he doesn't come out of the woods, but he's always here." Landon rambled.

"Well, that doesn't mean something bad happened. Raf's a wolf. It's not like he wears a watch." Hope replied.

Landon turned around to stare at Hope. "But every day, Hope, for months, and it's been three days, and Maybe I am just assuming the worst, but the worst is usually what happens. And it's bad enough that he's stuck as a wolf, but if-if he's lost, he's got no one. I can't let him be alone." Landon still rambled.

Hope stepped forward. "Landon. It's gonna be okay." She said. "We're gonna find him. I'll do a locator spell, and we're gonna track his movements. I still need to find what I need to turn him back but I promise I'll turn him back as soon as I can." She lied again but Landon took it as the truth. "I'm gonna help you." Hope finished.

Landon pulled Hope in for a hug as a thanks. Hope felt he stomach twist as she thought it was wrong and felt as if she was betraying you. "I-I got to go." Hope said, quickly getting out of the hug. Landon looked confused. "You know, to get the locator spell material." Hope awkwardly said before fast walking out of the Old Mill.

She began to feel disturbed as she drew closer because you weren't there. A burst of energy that she released as she leant against a tree caused the birds to fly away and the trees to sway violently in the wind.

————

You stared at Clark as he is still able to tell the truth. "This entire time, I've been working on a theory, you know, trying to figure out why the vortex comes." You paused. "And then I realized, it's always after I do magic." You stated, arms crossed. "Am I getting warm?" You questioned.

Clark looked annoyed. "Scalding." Clark groaned as he could only say the truth.

You smirked. "You know, it makes a lot of sense when you think about it." You turned around, walking off. "I thought that I was wrong about me and Hope being the only one who could destroy him, but I think my actual mistake was that I-I wasn't a fully activated Tribrid when I dove into that pit." You said, turning back around.

"I've never died, so my vampire side hasn't been activated yet. And what I'm realizing now is that Malivore doesn't want me here." There was a low rumbling. "I'm toxic to him." You looked between his eyes. "Finish that sentence, please?" You stated.

Clark tried to stop but couldn't. "Malivore's trying to expel you." You made a surprised face, faking it. "To send you back from where you came." Clark explained.

You came closer to Clark. "And every time he tries?" You trailed off, wanting Clark to finish the sentence.

Clark scolded his eyes in annoyance before opening them up. "I grab hold of you to try to get expelled with you. But as much as my father wants you to leave, he wants to keep torturing me here even more." Clark explained.

You did a fake smile. "Then it's offical. All we have to do is wait." You glared at Clark.

He looked confused. "For what?" He questioned.

Just then the vortex opened up. "That's my ride." You yelled over the loud winds.

"Kate, you can't leave me here." Clark yelled back.

"I can't leave with you. Okay?" You responded, actually a bit sad he had to stay her and be tortured, no one should have to live through that. "I have to get back to my friends. I have to get back to Hope." The wind was getting a bit strong now.

Clark squinted from the light. "I can't lie, right?" He questioned and you nodded. "So you know I'm telling the truth when I say that if you help me go back, too, you'll never see me again. I promise." Clark stated, he was telling the truth because of the spell.

You shook your head. "I'm sorry. But do you understand why I can't take that risk?" You questioned.

Clark nodded, knowing you wouldn't accept the deal even if he was lying. "Yeah. I would do the same thing if I were you." Clark stated and you chuckled as he looked away embarrassed. "God." He groaned.

Your chuckling stopped. "Good luck, Clarke." You yelled.

"Screw you, Kate!" He replied and you just glared at him as you got sucked into the vortex.
