Chapter 23
The Sweetest Trophy Wife by Beanie
Chapter 23 Iâm the Lady of the House
Although it was somewhat expected. Gwyneth could not help but laugh when she heard the maid confront her like that. âMary, do you
think this is the appropriate attitude and status for speaking to me?â Sighing inwardly, Gwyneth turned off the television. All she wanted was to relax and watch a soap opera, but it had become such a difficult task. Standing up, she positioned herself in front of Elizabeth and Mary, examining their appearances as her expression gradually grew cold.
Realizing that her previous attitude was inappropriate, Mary slightly restrained herself. âRegardless, Miss Lisle is a guest. No matter what.
Madam, you shouldnât do such a thing.â
âYou just addressed me as âMadam,â correct?â Gwyneth crossed her arms, speaking softly as she looked at the two women before her. She
had no intention of explaining herself regarding the baseless accusations, but she would not let it slide either.
At this question, Mary hesitated while Elizabeth secretly clenched her teeth. âThat title of âMadamâ should have been mineâ¦â
âI donât care what status Miss Lisle has in this mansion, but Iâm the lady of the house.â
Upon hearing this, Maryâs heart skipped a beat. She had forgotten that the woman before her was no longer the meek girl from the past three years.
âAs for the incident just now, I, as the lady of the house, ask the two of you to leave this mansion.â
âLeave? What do you mean?â Maryâs face turned pale as if she had anticipated something.
âIt means you are fired, and youâ¦â Gwyneth turned her gaze to Elizabeth. âThe Luther residence doesnât welcome you.â
After the mansionâs front door opened and slammed shut, Mary still had not recovered from the shock. Elizabeth was furious, not expecting Gwyneth to have such audacity.
âMary, Iâm truly sorry. I didnât expect things to turn out this way, and I have dragged you into it.â Elizabeth gently sighed as she took Maryâs
arm, her words fueling the fire.
âMiss Lisle, do not blame yourself. I will call Mr. Luther right now.â
As Mary took out her phone to call Liam, Elizabeth smiled subtly.
At that moment, Liam was in his office going over documents. When he received Maryâs call, he could not help but find the situation
amusing. He could even picture Gwynethâs expression, a hint of laughter in her eyes. After softly comforting Mary briefly, he hung up and called Gwyneth. But the call went from a busy signal to being disconnected. Clearly, she did not give him any chance to speak. âThis womanâ¦â Liam lightly pinched the space between his eyebrows and chuckled. After explaining the situation to his assistant, he left the company and drove straight to the mansion. When he arrived, he saw two pitiful figures standing at the door through the car window.
âLiamâ¦â
âMr. Luther, you have returned.â
Seeing Liam exit his car, Elizabethâs expression changed instantly, as if she would burst into tears at any moment. On the other hand. Mary seemed to have found her backbone, feeling like someone was now supporting her.
âLetâs go inside and talk.â
Liam led the two women into the mansion, where Gwyneth was still curled up on the sofa, watching her television show. Her carefree demeanor suggested that nothing had happened. A pile of fruit remained scattered on the floor as if deliberately left there with no intention of cleaning up. Upon seeing Liam enter, Gwyneth stood up without even glancing at the two women behind him.
âIâm glad you are back. I wanted to tell you that I will pack my things and move out tonight.â
Hearing that Gwyneth planned to move out, Elizabeth fell joy, thinking that her visit had not been vain. But she had no say in the matter.
âYou donât need to move out. We should talk about some things.â
Catching Liamâs gaze, Gwyneth raised an eyebrow playfully. She was not the type to purposely embarrass others, so when Liam made a gesture to retain her, she could not make any further moves.
Knowing Gwyneth had agreed, Liamâs expression relaxed slightly. He glanced at Elizabeth before finally turning his attention to Mary. âNo matter what happened, you shouldâve done your job properly. Settle your salary with the butler, and then you may leave.â
âMr. Luther, please listen to my explanation.â Upon hearing Liamâs words, Maryâs legs went weak. If not for Elizabethâs quick reflexes in supporting her, she might have collapsed on the floor.
âLiam, this really has nothing to do with Mary. She has worked in the mansion for a long time, so letâs not be too hard on her.â
Gwyneth leaned against the sofa with her arms crossed, watching Elizabethâs innocent act and finding it amusing. On the other hand, Mary was so touched that she nearly burst into tears. But none of the people present had anticipated Liamâs reaction. His eyes grew colder, his thin lips parting to reveal a chilling voice.
âWhich part of my words did you not understand?â
