Chapter 39
The Sweetest Trophy Wife by Beanie
Chapter 39 Did You Two Reconcile
Upon seeing Henry in that condition, Gwyneth was not only stunned, but Liam was also taken aback.
Gwyneth burst into the room, and Liam swiftly dragged Henry into the hallway, directly confronting him. âWhat did you do to that girl? Did you lay a hand on her?â
Henry, still feeling a bit groggy, instantly snapped to attention at Liamâs questioning lone. He realized that if he continued to appear disoriented, the misunderstanding could go out of hand quickly. He swiftly raised his hands and gestured toward his own shirt, speaking in a somewhat indignant voice. âI really didnât do anything to the girl in the room. She ended up vomiting all over me. Talk about terrible
luck!â
Hearing Henryâs explanation, Liam couldnât help but chuckle. âLooks like this girl is really Gwynethâs bestie. Both of them seemed to exhibit similar reactions when they were in drunken state.â
Meanwhile, Gwyneth had already rushed inside only to discover that it was a suite room. Aubrey was peacefully asleep in one of the bedrooms, while Henry had spent the night in a separate room within the same suite.
As Gwyneth stepped into the bedroom, her eyes fell upon Aubrey lying on the bed. Aubrey was stretched out in a hilariously relaxed position, fast asleep and completely unaware of her surroundings. Witnessing Aubrey in such a state, Gwyneth found it hard to contain her laughter. The memory of Henry opening the door earlier only added to her amusement. âHenryâs actually not that bad,â she thought to herself, he is at least a gentleman.â
Gwyneth reached out and gently tapped Aubreyâs face, intending to wake her up. However, to her surprise, Aubreyâs hand reflexively grabbed hold of her wrist. Caught off balance, Gwyneth lost her footing and ended up tumbling onto Aubrey.
The sudden weight caused Aubrey to groggily open her eyes. She let out a loud, irritable shout. âOuch!â
The two men standing at the doorway were startled by the commotion, their attention now fully focused on the unexpected scene unfolding before them.
Shaking off her drowsiness, Aubrey fixed her gaze on the person now atop her and burst into hearty laughter. âWell, thatâs certainly an unconventional way to wake someone up. However, Gwyneth swiftly gave her arm a light smack, causing Aubrey to immediately close
her mouth.
In the end, it was Gwyneth who dragged Aubrey into the bathroom and settled her into the bathtub. After about thirty minutes had passed,
the two friends emerged.
Liam was sitting on the couch, while Henry had tidied himself up, though his shirt was still a sight to behold.
Aubrey and Gwyneth displayed varying degrees of awareness when they were drunk. While Gwyneth had no recollection of what happened once she sobered up, Aubrey had a hazy recollection. As Aubrey observed Henryâs weary eyes and disheveled shirt, a sheepish smile formed on her face. âThanks for last night. This is like a lucky coincidence. Letâs become friends and get to know each other.â
Aubreyâs straightforwardness caught Henry off guard as he was drying his hair, but he responded with a nod and a smile.
âAlright, no need to stay any longer. Should I call a cab to take you back?â Gwyneth turned to Aubrey to ask, but before she could respond. the conversation took an unexpected turn.
âMs. Glen, Iâm not busy either. Iâd be delighted to send Ms. Ann home.â
Aubrey was momentarily surprised, but she didnât decline the offer. None of the parties involved objected, so Gwyneth, as a bystander, had no say in the matter.
Standing at the hotel entrance, Gwyneth watched as the car departed. She couldnât shake the feeling that something was about to happen.
âHow are you feeling? Are you still uncomfortable? Do you want to go back and rest?â Liamâs voice beside her brought Gwyneth back to reality. She turned her head toward Liam and shook her head, responding. âThere are still some things I need to take care of at the office.â
âAlright, letâs go then. Iâll give you a ride,â Liam offered.
Without hesitation, Gwyneth opened the car door and got in. When it came to balancing time and work efficiency, she never wasted a moment. When they arrived at the company, the car came to a stop at the front entrance.
Coincidentally, Wesley happened to be coming downstairs to retrieve a report and caught sight of Gwyneth stepping out of the car. As the car door closed, Wesley noticed Liamâs face.
In an instant, Wesleyâs curiosity was piqued. Holding the report, he stood there, waiting for Gwyneth to walk in. âGood morning, Boss,â he greeted her.
Upon hearing that, Gwyneth glanced at her watch and then at Wesley. âItâs still before noon, so technically itâs still morning.â
As the two of them entered the elevator together, Wesley could no longer contain his curiosity and looked at Gwyneth, who appeared to be ignoring him. âBoss, I just saw you with Mr. Luther. Did you two reconcile?â
With a ding, the elevator doors opened. Gwyneth, seemingly unaware of his question, stepped out of the elevator and made her way to her office. For Wesley, who was accustomed to being brushed off, this was nothing new or unexpected.
âHow are things with the files? Any progress in the investigation?â Gwyneth sat in her chair in the CEOâs office, exuding a completely different demeanor. After all, she was a firm believer in embracing life to the fullest and giving her work her utmost dedication.
In response to her question, Wesley swiftly donned a serious expression and retrieved a stack of documents from his briefcase. âBoss. Iâve got some concerning news about Glen Corporation.â
