Chapter 7

Collide

He leads us to a bedroom.

His face is still etched with anger, so I keep quiet.

I take in the grandeur of the room. A bed large enough for four wolves, not just two, dominates the space.

A TV hangs on the wall and two doors flank the bed.

Roman enjoys TV, I note.

Roman stands by the door, watching me intently. I decide to explore the room on my own.

I open the door to the left of the bed and step into the largest walk-in closet I’ve ever seen.

It’s almost as big as the bedroom itself.

The right side is filled with men’s clothes, organized by style and color.

The left side is filled with women’s clothes.

I spot a leather jacket that’s totally my style.

I shed my own jacket and slip into the new one.

I stand in front of the mirror that separates the men’s side from the women’s, admiring my reflection.

I still have some makeup on from the mate festival, and it looks good.

I spin around, laughing. I look like a badass rocker chick.

Through the mirror, I see Roman leaning in the doorway.

I turn to face him, my excitement radiating off me.

“This is amazing! Even better than mine. Thank you so much,” I say, laughing. Roman’s face softens for a moment at my words, but then his angry scowl returns.

“I had the designer find it for you. When you become queen, we’ll have to get rid of it. But for now, I don’t see why you can’t wear it.” And just like that, my happiness evaporates.

“It’s enchanted to protect you. Even a wolf’s teeth will have trouble biting through it.” If I wasn’t so angry at his previous words, I’d think that was pretty cool. But I am angry.

“You can’t expect me to change who I am just because you’re my mate. I told you, I will be queen. I will care for all the wolves as if they’re my own, but I will also protect them ON THE FRONT LINES.”

Fire flares up my arms again, but I quickly suppress my magic. I start pacing.

“We can make this difficult. Really, really difficult. Or we can sit down and talk about this. I can see why the Goddess chose you as my mate. You’re dominant and incredibly sexy, but don’t think for a second that I will just bow at your feet.”

“So you think I’m sexy, huh.” His words stop me in my tracks.

I glance at him.

His eyes are filled with desire, his teeth biting his lower lip.

Oh, Goddess… I stride towards him and jump into his arms.

Yes, jump.

My legs wrap around his waist, and his hands immediately support my ass.

I’ve never felt passion like this before.

I pull him into a kiss. The moment our lips touch, my mind goes blank.

No more anger, no more defenses.

He tastes like mint and something sweet.

His lips are soft and move perfectly with mine.

He pulls away too soon, a wide grin on his face.

“You taste delicious.” His words send shivers down my spine. “But we need to get ready for dinner.” I pout as he gently sets me back on my feet.

“Maybe you should wear one of the dresses. I’d really like that.” He leans down and gives me a soft kiss.

“I’ll be back.” I stand there, watching his ass as he walks away. Damn, that man is sexy.

I stare at the door long after he’s gone, trying to process what just happened.

We were arguing, and then suddenly we were kissing.

Oh, that kiss.

Focus, Kat, focus.

Damn, I’m acting like a lovesick puppy. I need to calm down.

I pull a black dress off its hanger and rummage through drawers until I find underwear and bras.

Without looking, I grab some and head to the other door.

It leads to a bathroom.

The shower is as big as the tub on my right.

I decide to take a shower.

I quickly undress and step into the shower, waiting for the water to heat up.

Even though I’m a wolf and could handle cold water, the witch in me craves warmth.

I wash my hair and body on autopilot.

What just happened? I lost control.

I never lose control. Never.

I need to pull myself together.

I’d like to blame it on the mate bond, but deep down I know it was all me.

From now on, I need to keep some distance and at least two pieces of furniture between us when we argue.

I can’t look at him either.

Goddess, I’m hopeless.

It’s not like I’ve never seen a good-looking man before.

I’ve seen plenty.

But there’s something about Roman’s dark hair and piercing blue eyes that gets to me.

Okay, Kat. Focus.

I quickly turn off the shower and stand in front of the mirror.

I use a small cloth to remove the last of my makeup.

I use my magic to dry my hair quickly, letting it fall in waves down my back.

When I look at the underwear, I see that I’ve blindly chosen a barely-there thong and matching bra.

A wicked smile crosses my face.

If he affects me this much, I must affect him too.

A plan starts to form in my head as I put on the underwear.

The dress has a slit on the left side, showing off one of my legs.

The back is almost non-existent.

Knowing my hair will cover the bra strap, I put it on.

I have to admit, I look both classy and sexy.

The door opens again. Roman is wearing a different suit, but it fits him just as well.

I quickly look away.

I need to focus to get what I want.

Even though I’m not looking at him, I can feel his eyes on me.

After a few minutes, I decide to look at him, feeling awkward from the silence and staring.

He’s looking at me with an amused smile.

“You don’t like shoes, do you?” I look down at my bare feet.

I’m such an idiot. I forgot to put on shoes. I dart back into the walk-in closet, my eyes landing on a pair of black boots.

They’re tempting, but they don’t quite match the vibe of my dress. I need something a bit more sultry.

I settle on a pair of strappy, black high-heels.

I steal a quick glance in the mirror. The shoes do wonders for my ass. Just what I was aiming for.

When I step back out of the closet, Roman’s expression says it all.

His eyes are heavy with lust, his lip caught between his teeth.

Tonight is shaping up to be quite interesting.
