Chapter 10

The Void

Blood of the Dragon[on Hold]

Godswood

Rhaegon was searching for Rhaenyra for 10 minutes, and he had finally found her in the godswood.

"Rhae?" He called out to her.

"How could he?" Rhaenyra asked as her eyes watered up.

"I don't know. I was certain that he would marry Laena." Rhaegon said. "He's played us. I'm sorry, sister." He held her, and she cried into his shoulder.

"I hate him... I hate her!" Rhaenyra spat.

"I know. I promise I won't let him get away with hurting you." Rhaegon said.

"Go and talk to Father. Try to see if he will break the betrothal." Rhaenyra suggested.

"I don't think he can. The council already sees him as weak. If he breaks his betrothal, they'll see him as an oathbreaker as well." Rhaegon said. "You're right about one thing, I have to talk to him. Will you be alright here?" He asked.

"Yes." Rhaenyra nodded at her brother. Rhaegon turned to leave, but Rhaenyra stopped him. "Rhaegon?"

"Yes." He said.

"I..." Rhaenyra wanted to tell him so badly that she loved him. She wanted to ask him to take her to Dragonstone and make her his wife, but the words didn't want to come out. "Nothing. I shall see after your talk with Father." Rhaegon nodded and walked off.

Viserys chambers

Rhaegon entered his father's chamber only to find the king seated away from his Old Valyria model.

"I thought I'd find you celebrating." Rhaegon said.

"What's there to celebrate? My children hate me." Viserys pointed out.

"Self-pity doesn't suit a king, but then again, I never saw you as a true king." Rhaegon spat.

"Rhaegon-" The king was cut off by his son.

"Alicent Hightower. You couldn't have chosen anyone else?" Rhaegon asked. He then poured himself a cup of wine and sat across from his father. "I want to play a game."

"What game?" Viserys inquired.

"The game where you're honest for once." Rhaegon said.

"Ask me anything, and I will answer it." Viserys said.

"How long have you been courting your daughter's best friend?" Rhaegon asked.

Viserys swallowed thickly. "Rhaegon, please..."

"Father, as men we have to get our cocks wet from time to time." Rhaegon arrogantly smirked. "This I understand, so just between the two of us, how long?" He asked again.

"Rhaegon-" Viserys was cut off again.

"How long?!" Rhaegon shouted.

"Since the night of your mother's funeral." Viserys sadly said.

"My mother's bones weren't even melted off hee body and you already decided on your next fuck?" Rhaegon asked.

"Rhaegon, please...it's not how it happened." Viserys defended.

"You knowingly destroyed my sister. The only reason that I'm not killing you is out of respect for my mother." Rhaegon balled up his fist. "But understand that you and I are nothing to one another. Rhaenyra and I will attend your farce of a wedding, and then I shall take her to Dragonstone. Far away from you fucking your child bride."

"How long will you be gone?" Viserys asked.

"As long as it takes for Rhaenyras anger to be sated." Rhaegon said. "You've destroyed your grandsires legacy." Rhaegon then left his father's room.

Red Keep

Rhaegon walked out of his father's room and saw Otto Hightower accompanied by his daughter and two Hightower knights.

"My prince." Otto bowed as did Alicent and the guards. "Is his grace free to speak?" He asked. "I'd like to talk to him about the arrangements for his wedding."

Rhaegon heard a ringing sound. He thought of how his father spat on his mother's grave by courting Alicent. He thought of how Rhaenyra comforted him. He thought of Daemon taking Dragonstone. He thought of how Rhaenyra was currently suffering. She is his sister. She is his heart. She is his life, and she's being held down by pompous imbeciles like her father and the man standing before him.

"Fuck it." Was all Rhaegon said and before anyone could react, he charged at Otto and pushed him off the balcony. He then quickly held Otto by one leg.

"Oh gods!" Alicent shrieked.

"My prince!" The Hightower knight shouted.

Just then the king walked out of his room. "Rhaegon stop!" Viserys shouted.

"If anyone does more than blink in my direction, I'm dropping him." Rhaegon warned. "How does it feel, Otto? To be so helpless that your life could end in any second?" Rhaegon asked with a dangerous tone.

"My prince please! Mercy!" Otto begged.

"You hurt my sister!" Rhaegon spat. He looked at his father. "As did you!" He then looked at Alicent. "As did you!"

"Please my prince." Alicent got down on her knees and begged.

"Too late to beg now...your grace." Rhaegon smirked. He was about to release his hands around Ottos leg, but stopped when he felt a hand on his arm. He turned to see his sister.

"He's not worth it, Rhaegon." Rhaenyra said.

"Rhae?" Rhaegon called out.

"I'm here. I'm not leaving." Rhaenyra said.

"They hurt you! All of them!" Rhaegon spat.

"Yes, they did, but they aren't worth it if it means losing you." Rhaenyra said. Rhaegons eyes widened. It's alright. "Pull him up."

Rhaegon looked at Rhaenyra and then at his father and his blood started to boil. He then looked at Rhaenyra again. "No." The crown prince released his hands and before Otto could fall, the Hightower knights quickly managed to grab him and pull him up. Rhaegon looked st a scared Otto. "Let this be your only warning, Otto." Rhaegon then walked away.

Rhaenyra looked at Alicent who was taking care of her father. She then looked at her father. "If I lose him, it will be all your fault." Rhaenyra followed Rhaegon to his room to calm him down.

Rhaegons chambers

Rhaegon was punching his wall until his knuckles bled. Everything that was happening was wrong. His mother was dead. His father was responsible. His sister was hurt, and to make things worse, his father was going to marry his sisters best friend.

"Rhaegon?" Rhaenyra called out and she saw her brother punch the wall. "Rhaegon stop!" She shouted. Rhaegon stopped after three more punches. He then looked at Rhaenyra and started crying. She immediately hugged him. "It's alright. Just for today, don't be the heir. Don't be my protector. Let yourself fall apart and I promise I'll put you back together."

3 months later

Throne room

The royal family and courtiers had just returned from the Grand Sept where king Viserys has wedded Lady Alicent Hightower.

For the last 3 months, Rhaegon hasn't spoken to his father unless it was during a council meeting.

Rhaenyra still hasn't told Rhaegon about her feelings for him, although they did spent every day together.

The royal family sat on the high seat and watched as the courtiers danced and were having fun.

"Would you like to join me?" Rhaegon asked Rhaenyra.

"I would love to." Rhaenyra said and she took Rhaegons hand. Brother and sister were having fun, until the minstrel played a slow song. "I don't think you know how to dance to these songs." She chuckled.

"Oh, really. Well then, let me show you a thing or two." Rhaegon grabbed his sisters waist and they locked eyes. He then took her hand and started leading her dance. "Impressed yet?" He arrogantly asked.

"Impressed enough." Rhaenyra said. "Try not to step on my toes."

Rhaegon leaned down to Rhaenyras ear. "I wouldn't dare harm you, sister." Rhaenyra felt a shiver.

"Y...you shouldn't b...be so close. F...father might see. They all might see." Rhaenyra reminded him.

"You're right." Rhaegon sighed. "I have to tell you something."

"What is it?" Rhaenyra asked.

"After we return home from Dragonstone, I'm going to the Stepstones." Rhaegon said.

"What?! No!" Rhaenyra shouted. "Rhaegon, you can't leave me!"

Rhaegon sighed. "Rhaenyra, I have to go. Things in the Stepstones aren't good, and the other reason for leaving is because I have this anger in me that needs to be released, or it will harm the ones I love most."

"Please don't go." Rhaenyra begged.

"I'm sorry Rhae, but there's something in me that's broken, and the worst part is that I like it." Rhaegon sighed. "Mother believed hat I could be a great king, and I have to honor that for her, for father...and for you." Rhaenyra then left the throne room in tears.

A few minutes later Otto walked to Rhaegon. "My prince." The Hand of the King greeted.

"Otto." Rhaegon wasn't really in the mood to entertain Otto now.

"Are you enjoying the celebration?" Otto asked.

Rhaegon scoffed. "Let's not pretend as if this isn't the best day of your pathetic life."

"My prince?" Otto shockingly inquired.

"You got what you wanted. Your daughter will marry the King and produced children for him. Of course they will be second in line to the throne, if not third." Rhaegon said.

"Third, my prince?" Otto asked.

Rhaegon looked at Otto. "If I fall, and Rhaenyra is named heir, your plans die."

"Forgive me my prince, but only a male can be named heir." Otto reminded him.

Rhaegon chuckled. "For a smart man, your truly an idiot. My father loved my mother and will do anything to make things right with his children. That includes breaking tradition." The Crown prince then walked away from Otto.

Rhaegon was on his way to Rhaenyras chambers when he heard crying. He got closer and saw Alicent in tears.

"Forgive me, my prince." Alicent said.

"Are you alright?" Rhaegon asked.

"I'm fine...I'm fine. Please don't tell my father that you saw me like this." Alicent begged.

"I won't." Rhaegon helped Alicent up and looked at her. "It won't get easier with tears. I know you're to bed my father tonight. Be strong. I know very little about a woman's first time. I know it will hurt or a few seconds and once the pain fades it will be the best or the worst night of your life."

"The bedding is not what scares me." Alicent said.

"Then what is it that bothers you?" Rhaegon asked.

"I didn't want to marry the king." Alicent said and looked down. "I wanted to marry the prince."

Rhaegon sighed. "Alicent-"

"I love you Rhaegon. I have for a long time." Alicent confessed. "Let us run away together and marry. We'll be happy and I'll give you many children."

"Alicent stop." Rhaegon demanded. "I don't love you. I never have. You are to be queen and you will do right by the king." Rhaegon then walked away from Alicent.

Rhaenyras chambers

Rhaegon entered his sisters chambers and found her sitting on the edge of her bed.

"When we danced tonight, I felt something that I never thought I'd feel." Rhaenyra told Rhaegon.

"I felt it too." Rhaegon said.

"I never thought it was possible to love you more than I already do, but here I am. Hopelessly in love with my brother. What a fool I must be." Rhaenyra spat.

Rhaegon chuckled. "I'm glad you finally said it. I thought for a second that my feelings were only one sided."

"What?" Rhaenyra looked at her brother with a surprised expression.

Rhaegon walked closer to her. "I'm not going to the Stepstones to fight for Lord Corlys or to defy father. I'm going to get all this anger out, so that I can be better for you, because I love you Rhaenyra." He said.

Tears formed in Rhaenyras eyes. "You love me?"

"I love you. I  choose you." Rhaegon said. Rhaenyra stood up and put slowly put her hand on Rhaegons cheek. Rhaegon then leaned down and started kissing her. Rhaenyra returned the kiss and their tongues wrestled for control. This was Rhaenyras first kiss and she enjoyed every second of it.

"I love you. Go. Go fight, but come back to me." Rhaenyra demanded.

"I wouldn't have it any other way. Pack your bags for Dragonstone. We leave immediately." Rhaegon kissed Rhaenyra again and a few minutes later he left her room.

Rhaegons chambers. Rhaegon was about to pack his bag to leave for Dragonstone when he heard a knock on the door.

"The King, my prince." Ser Erryk announced.

"Let him in Ser." Rhaegon said. Viserys entered the room and Rhaegon could tell that Rhaegon could tell that his father was drunk. "I know this is a day of celebration, but I thought you'd be celebrating in your bed chambers."

"Rhaegon don't leave." Viserys begged. "I'll end my marriage. I'll do what ever you want, just don't go to Dragonstone."

Rhaegon walked closer to his father and put his hand on Viserys' shoulder. "Go fuck you child bride, father. I'm going to do what you won't. Put Rhaenyra first."

With nothing left to say, Rhaegon continued packing. Viserys left his sons room shortly after.

Rhaegon and Rhaenyra flew to Dragonstone and safely arrived. They then went to Rhaegons chambers and Rhaenyra got ready for bed.

"Can you button up this night gown for me?" Rhaenyra asked.

"I rather see you without one." Rhaegon smirked.

"I don't mind, but it wouldn't be right if you were to bed me on the same night that our father is bedding his whore." Rhaenyra reminded him.

Rhaegon chuckled and button up her nightgown. "Just so that there's no misunderstanding. I'm the one who will take your maidenhead. No one else. I'm the only one that you make love to."

Rhaenyra loved the sound of that. "Of course. Come. Let us get some rest after this exhausting day."

Rhaenyra led them to Rhaegons bed and they laid together Rhaenyra moved close to Rhaegon and laid her head in his chest.

"One day, Rhae. One day we will lay like this in our home with and our children will play and feel safe." Rhaegon said and Rhaenyra blushed.

"As I've said before, you will have to bed me first." Rhaenyra reminded him.

"For tonight, I only wish to hold you and not let go." Rhaegon said.

"Then do it." Rhaenyra told him. He held her and eventually they fell asleep.

A few weeks later

"I didn't think this would be so difficult." Rhaenyra said with tears in her eyes.

"I know, but I promise that I'm doing this for us." Rhaegon said.

"I know. It just hurts." Rhaenyra said.

"It will hurt more if I stay." Rhaegon said.

"Promise that you'll return." Rhaenyra warned.

"I promise. I love you, Rhaenyra." Rhaegon said.

"I love you, Rhaegon." Rhaenyra then kissed her him one last time and watched him fly off on his dragon.

Unknown location

Rhaegon woke up in his bed in Kings Landing and looked around.

"Rhae?" Rhaegon called out to Rhaenyra.

"She's not here." A voice said, and Rhaegon could've sworn that he's heard him before.

"Where's Rhaenyra? What have you done to her?" Rhaegon furiously asked.

"She's safe. She's in Kings Landing." The man said.

"I don't understand. If she's in Kings Landing, then where am I?" Rhaegon asked.

"I hate this part of my job." The man said. "You're in a place that I like to call the void."

"The void? The void of what?" Rhaegon asked.

"Where the dead go." The man said.

"What?" Rhaegon inquired.

"You're dead Rhaegon Targaryen." The man said with a sinister smirk, and all Rhaegon could do was be surprised.
