Bound In Fire
Blood of the Dragon[on Hold]
Tower of the Hand
Otto was happy. He had received news from a boy last night. Rhaegon and Rhaenyra were seen in a brothel, and he wanted to report this to the king. This was all he needed to have the king disinherit Rhaegon and make Aegon the heir to the Iron Throne.
Viserys' chambers
Viserys was getting dressed when he heard a knock on the door. Come. He said, and Otto entered his chambers.
"Apologies for the early hour, your grace." Otto bowed his head.
"What is it?" Viserys asked.
"I have... discomforting news, and I thought it best shared discreetly before the council convenes." Otto said.
"Oh, not the Sea Snake." Viserys groaned.
Otto sighed. "I'm afraid it involves the crown prince, Rhaegon, and the princess, Rhaenyra."
"Have they been harmed?" Viserys asked with concern.
"It is no easy thing to tell a father of his children's exploits. I had considered saying nothing -" Otto was cut off by the king.
"What have they done?" Viserys asked.
"The crown prince and princess were spied last evening... beyond the walls of the keep... in a pleasure house." Otto said.
"What of it?" Viserys nonchalantly asked.
"The princess Rhaenyra was carrying on with her brother, prince Rhaegon." Otto said. :They were engaged in behaviors unbecoming of a prince or a princess."
"What behaviors?" Viserys impatiently inquired.
"Must I say it, your grace." Otto asked.
"You enter my bed chambers and accuse my children of something. So speak it. Plainly." Viserys demanded.
Otto sighed. "Rhaegon and Rhaenyra were seen together, in the bowels of the of a pleasure den...coupling."
Viserys chuckled. "This has to be a lie. You've been lied to." Viserys immediately defended his children.
"I wish that were true, your grace." The Hand of the King said.
"Who is responsible for this gossip? Have this rumor monger brought to me at once, and I will take their eyes." Viserys comanded.
"As your Hand, I must maintain trusted sources of information, and this one as yet, has never led me astray, and several of the servants have now admitted to seeing them, the Prince and Princess, creeping through the gates of Kings Landing, disguised at a page and a commoner during the hour of the owl." Otto said.
The king scoffed. "You're so sick with ambition that you would have my son stalked? Spied upon? Awaiting your best chance to destroy his reputation?" Viserys asked.
Otto sighed. "I have no such intent, your grace."
"You think yourself a cunning man? Your designs are obvious. Do you wish to have your blood on the Iron Throne so badly that you are willing to destroy mine own?" Viserys angrily asked. "Just get out. Leave me...at once."
This did not go the way Otto wanted it to go. Viserys was supposed to believe him without question. "Your grace." Otto bowed at left the Royal chambers. Viserys then slamed his hand on a nearby table. He then looked up and saw his wife Alicent. He didn't even care that she was there, so he walked past her.
Alicent was heartbroken. The man she loved had laid with his sister when it was supposed to be her.
Godswood
An hour later, Rhaenyra was called to the godswood by the Queen. The Realm's Delight was all smiles when she walked. She thought of Rhaegon and when she would see him again.
"What happened last night?" Alicent asked, wasting no time.
"What do you mean?" Rhaenyra asked her.
"My father has made some worrying allegations about you, Rhaenyra." Alicent said."Were you with your brother?"
"Oh, Rhaegon wanted to spend some time with me, so he took me into the city for some fun." Rhaenyra said
"Tell me the whole of it, Rhaenyra." Alicent demanded.
"Your father accused me of something?" "What that I drank wine? Left the castle after dark?" Rhaenyra asked.
"That you fucked Rhaegon in a pleasure house." Alicent whispered.
Rhaenyra looked as if she was about to cry. "This is a vile accusation."
"Is it?" Alicent inquired. "You Targaryens do have queer customs and Rhaegon certainly knows no limit."
"Alicent. Your grace, sister you must know I would... I would never." Rhaenyra rushed to her and held Alicents hands. "You cannot believe such gossip."
"My father is no gossip." Alicent stated
"Well then he must've been misled, he could not have witnessed such a thing." Rhaenyra told them.
"Why not?" Alicent asked.
"Because it did not happen." Rhaenyra answered.
"He was told that you-" Alicent tried
"Told? Who made these claims to your father?" Rhaenyra asked and then Rhaenyra then scoffed. "I am the princess, to question my virtue is an act of treason".
"My father reported it to the king, and I was in the room when they spoke, but I do not know who told him." She said.
"You've known me your whole life, do you believe that I am capable of this?" Rhaenyra asked in disbelief.
"I only want to help you Rhaenyra." Alicent pleaded.
Rhaenyra sighed. "Okay, we drank in a tavern, several taverns, it was getting late and I asked to go home, but Rhaegon wished to continue. As he was my escort, I had no real choice." She told Alicent
"Continue...In a brothel?" Alicent asked
"He took me to a show, I...I was only a spectator. I didn't do anything, and then Rhaegon sank into his cups, and...abandoned me for some whore. I should've known better." Rhaenyra explained.
"So you did not?" Alicent asked.
"Must I truly refute that?" Rhaenyra inquired.
"I have to hear it, Rhaenyra." Alicent said.
"Rhaegon never touched me." Rhaenyra said and rushed to her friends. "I swear this to you upon the memory of my mother."
"It was foolish of you to place yourself in a position where your virtue could even come into question." Alicent told her.
"I know, and I regret it." Rhaenyra she lied more.
"The king has strived to find you a good match, as have I." Alicent reminded her. "If any lord you wed were to think that you have been...sullied...It would ruin everything."
"I know." Rhaenyras heart was beating fast, she had lied about everything, she kissed Rhaegon and she did have sex with him last night, more than once.
Royal chambers
Rhaegon entered his father's room and could do nothing, but smile.
"Father. Apologies for my intrusion, but I wish to know if you made your decision about me marrying Rhaenyra?" Rhaegon asked.
"How could you do this?" Viserys asked.
"Father?" Rhaegon inquired.
"Rhaenyra. You defiled her!" Viserys shouted.
"What do you mean?" Rhaegon asked.
"Do not play me for a fool, Rhaegon!" Viserys was beyond angry.
"Start from the beginning, father." Rhaegon said. Even though he was lying to his father he wanted to know where his father heard it from.
"Otto came to me this morning and told me that you laid with Rhaenyra." Viserys said.
"You don't wish to hear my side of the story?" Rhaegon asked.
"Your story won't matter, Rhaegon. Only perception. You have exposed Rhaenyra and now you and I must both suffer the consequences." Viserys told his son.
"I haven't done anything that you haven't, father." Rhaegon said. "If I had 10 women in my bed right now, you would congratulate me. You'd be even happier if I made one of them pregnant regardless of it being a bastard."
"I would, and I would legitimize the child myself." Viserys said.
"Then why is Rhaenyra different?" Rhaegon asked.
"Because she is your sister!" Viserys shouted. "Your courtship is at an end. You will wed Laena Velaryon, and you will do so without protest."
"Very well, father, but, you need to make a choice. Me or Otto." Rhaegon said.
"Where is this coming from?" Viserys asked.
"Otto is an self-serving lord who only wants his blood on the throne." Rhaegon said.
"Every Lord that wants an audience with me is self-serving." Viserys said. "On every council and all councils past. It is unavoidable."
"I disagree." Rheegon knew what he was about to do would destroy Rhaenyra. "I will do my duty and wed Lady Laena, but you must do yours as king. Dismiss Otto. I'll marry Laena, but I won't stop loving Rhaenyra." Rhaegon left his father's chambers.
A few hours later Alicent was in the kings chambers. She poured him a cup of wine and handed it to him.
"Have you spoken to him?" Alicent asked.
"Yes." Viserys sighed and placed the cup of wine on the table.
"What did he say?" Alicent asked.
"Nothing that implies that he laid with Rhaenyra." Viserys said.
"They've never lied to you, before. They wouldn't start now." Alicent pointed out.
"Whatever transpired, Rhaenyra is not innocent." Viserys said. "Rhaegon and Rhaenyra share the blood of the dragon. They're restless and chaotic. I should've known something such as this would happen."
"How would you know?" Alicent asked. "She swore to me that she remains a maiden, and I believe her."
"I have never seen Rhaegon so hurt. I've shouted at him before, but this was different." Viserys said. He felt so guilty that he didn't want to hear Rhaegons side of the story.
"He's angry, yes, but give him time to calm down and see sense." Alicent suggested.
"It's not anger, dear wife." Viserys said. "It's love."
"Love?" Alicent inquired.
"A few months ago, Rhaegon asked me to betroth him to Rhaenyra. They've been in love with each other for a long time." Viserys sighed.
"I...I never knew." Alicent lied.
Rhaenyras chambers
Later that night, Rhaenyra was in her room. She was reading until she was interrupted by Grandmaester Mellos. He had given her a tea that was ordered by the king. When the Grandmaester left, Rhaenyra looked at the tea. She wasn't sure if she would know if she were with child, but it would be too early to tell. A few minutes later, Rhaegon entered her chambers.
"Father knows." Was the first thing that Rhaegon said.
"I know, Alicent is suspicious as well." Rhaenyra said.
"Father is making me marry Laena Velaryon." Rhaegon sadly said.
Rhaenyra was in tears. "I can't lose you."
Rhaegon immediately hugged her. "You won't. I'm not going anywhere. I'll marry her for the realm. Give her children for the realm, and when our time comes, you and I will be together." Rhaegon saw the moon tea on Rhaenyras table. "Did father give you this?"
"Yes. Mellos brought it under his order." Rhaenyra said.
"You should take it." Rhaegon said and tears formed in his eyes. "I've ruined you. I've ruined our chance to be together."
"Rhaegon, don't ever say that to me again." Rhaenyra sternly said. "You have not ruined me. I don't want to take the tea."
"What if you're pregnant?" Rhaegon asked.
Rhaenyra took Rhaegons hand and placed ot on her flat belly. "Then we have a beautiful child." Rhaegon smiled. "I know that look. You have a plan, don't you?"
Rhaegon smirked. "Don't I always."
Royal chambers
Rhaegon entered his father's chambers and saw his father's dagger in flames. He then touched the handle and picked it up. He then heard his father's voice.
"That dagger, once belonged to Aegon the Conquerer. It was Aenar's before that, and before that...well it is difficult to know. Before Aegons death the last of the Valyrian pyromancers hid his song in the steel." Viserys took the blade from his son, turned it and gave it to him.
Rhaegon read. "'From my blood come the Prince that was Promised and his will be the Song of Ice and Fire'".
He took the dagger and they heard a new voice. "The responsibility that was handed to you. The burden of this knowledge...it is larger than the throne, a king. It is even larger than you and your...desires". Viserys said bitterly. "Jaehaerys would've disinherited your sister." The king said as he sheathed the dagger.
"We both know that you're not Jaehaerys, father." Rhaegon spat. "If you disinherit her, you'll have to do the same for me." He said.
"I would, but it is mine to hold the realm together, not sow it into further division." Viserys said.
"Lucky for you, I have a solution to this. Have Rhaenyra wed Ser Laenor Velaryon." Rhaegon said.
Viserys was surprised. "The son of the Sea Snake?"
"Yes. So that I can be a remedy for your political headaches." Rhaegon stated.
"Do you truly love her?" Viserys asked.
"I do, and I'll never stop. I spoke to Rhaenyra and after my wedding, I'll take Laena to Dragonstone to bed her. Rhaenyra doesn't deserve to be under the same roof as my wife, and my wife doesn't deserve to be under the same roof as the woman I love." Rhaegon said.
"I am sorry, my son." Viserys apologized.
"There's a vulture that perches upon your throne. If you wish to fix what you've broken, start with that." Rhaegon then left his father's room.
Small council chambers
Otto was summoned by the king, but he didn't know why. He entered the small council chambers and found the king at the head of the table.
"Your grace." Otto greeted.
"Five days." Viserys said.
"I'm sorry, your grace?" He asked confused.
"Though it was sometime ago, the details, they fade in memory. My father was a hale and healthy warrior, and dragonrider at the peak of his abilities. He taught my son everything he knew on dragons and my son would ride with him on Vhagar almost everyday. Jaehaerys named a great royal hunt to celebrate him being named the hand of the king. 5 days later my father lay dead, tourneys last longer." Viserys tapped a chair and Otto was still confused. "'Baelon the Brave', rider of Vhagar, Heir to the Iron Throne...dead of a burst belly." He said sadly. "The gods have a dark wit."
"It was a grim day. I recall it all to well." Otto said.
"Yes. It was a good day for you." His tone darkened a little as he walked closer to Otto. "Jaehaerys named you hand in Baelons stead."
"That's hardly how I viewed it, your grace. It was a duty." Otto told the king.
"You served my grandsire nobly in his final days. You are the man who taught me how to be king." He complimented Otto
"Oh you honor me, your grace." Otto smiled.
Viserys sighed. "Just five days. You went from being just another man in Jaehaerys' court to the second most powerful man in the realm. I wonder...how long did it take you to choose yourself over your King?" Viserys asked.
Otto looked at the king is disbelief. "Your grace."
"I would never fully recover from Aemmas death, but Alicent took me through the worst of my grief. She was a calculated distraction, I only now realize how well calculated." The king said
"This is an absurdity." Otto said. "The Queen loves you, as I know you love her."
"Your interests no longer align with that od the realm." Viserys said.
"A loyal hand must tell the king uncomfortable truths. If he doesn't, he has failed as a servant." Otto told the king hoping Viserys would calm down.
"You were a faithful servant, Otto." The king removed the Hand of the King's badge of office. "The crown, and the realm both owe you a debt that can never be repaid, but I can no longer trust your judgment." The king then walked out of the room leaving Otto.
Rhaegons chambers
"Don't stop, Rhae! I'm close." Rhaegon groaned as Rhaenyra was riding him.
"Give me all of it!" Rhaenyra begged as she rode Rhaegon faster. After Rhaegon spoke to his father, he went to Rhaenyras chambers and watched as his sister poured the moon tea on her floor. Rhaegon smirked and took her by her hand. He then led her to the secret passage that led to his room. The couple immediately had sex.
"Fuckkkk!" Rhaegon grunted as he flooded Rhaenyras womb with his seed. Rhaenyra climbed off Rhaegon and laid her head on his chest.
"I love you." Rhaenyra said.
"I love you too." Rhaegon said. "We're going to be alright, I promise." The couple then fell asleep in each other's arms.
