King's Landing
Rhaegon and Laenas chambers
"Have you all packed your bags?" Laena asked her children. She was 8 months pregnant and really couldn't help her children as much as she wanted to.
"Yes, mother." Baela replied. "Mother. Since you, Father, and Rhaena are flying to Dragonstone, may I fly as well on Moondancer?"
"I don't know, Baela. I'm worried that Moondancer might be too small and not strong enough to fly." Laena said.
"Please, mother. I promise I'll be careful and take it slow." Baela begged.
Laena sighed. "I'll have to discuss it with your father. For now, go and find Corwyn. Make sure he's ready as well."
"Alright, mother." Baela and Rhaena said.
"You all seem ready to leave." Rhaegon said as he and Rhaenyra entered the room.
"Papa!" Both Baela and Rhaena ran to Rhaegon and hugged him.
Rhaegon chuckled as he picked his daughter up. "Are you all ready to leave?"
"Yes, Papa." Baela said.
"I don't understand why we have to leave. I like it here." Rhaena grumbled.
"Well, Corwyns egg didn't hatch from Syrax' clutch. I'd like to see if Silverwing laid some more. Besides, we're not leaving forever." Rhaegon explained. "And you'll have plenty of fun when Jace, Visenya, and Luke visit as well. Joanna and Daeron will also be at Dragonstone."
Rhaenyra and Laena smiled at Rhaegon. They loved that he treated all his children the same. He had no favorites.
Rhaenyras handmaiden Elinda Massey entered the room. She was one of the few people who knew the truth about her relationship with Rhaegon and Laena. The other was maester Gerardys.
"My prince, my princess, my lady." Elinda greeted.
"Alright, my dragonlings. See to your brother and make sure he is packed and ready to leave." Rhaegon said, and his daughters kissed him on his cheek and left the room.
"This will help for the pain." Elinda said as she placed a cloth on Rhaenyras chest. "The milk will dry up soon."
"Thank you, Elinda." Rhaenyra said, and she sat on the couch across from Laena. They then heard singing, and it got louder as it came closer. The group recognized the voices belonged to Laenor Velaryon and his lover Qarl Correy.
"My dear wife and sister." Laenor greeted. "My brother-in-law. He greeted Rhaegon."
"My prince. My princess. My lady." Qarl greeted the trio.
"Where have you been?" Rhaenyra asked, trying to keep her composure.
"Out with Qarl. Did I not mention it? Are you in much pain?" Laenor asked. He then looked at Qarl. "The milk. It swells the breasts -"
"Qarl, leave us. We need to talk to Ser Laenor." Rhaegon cut Laenor off.
"Yes, my prince." Qarl quickly left the room. Rhaenyra looked at Elinda and nodded at her. The young handmaiden also left the room.
Laenor fell on the couch next to his sister and chuckled. "I wish to go across the Narrow Sea, Rhaenyra." He said. "Far from here. West of Westeros, and sail. Ah! After all this time, this is just what I need, a little adventure. Mayhaps a good, honest battle to enliven my blood again." He chuckled again. "A few months maybe hm? To be back at sea." He said happily.
Rhaenyra was beyond angry, her husband wanted to leave now when she needed him at her side the most. Rhaegon the rose from. His chair.
"Are you mad?" The crown prince asked. "Do you know what's happened while you've been guzzling all the ale in Flee Bottom, and gods know what besides. Dark rumors are hunting us all, Laenor. They nip at our heels. Questions about your children's parentage."
"What questions?" Laenor asked.
"Vile, disgusting insinuations." Rhaenyra answered.
Laenor scoffed. "Insinuations, are they?" He inquired and drank more ale.
"They're your children! Blood doesn't change that!" Laena yelled. "You will not abandon them now to go carousing through the Narrow Sea. Wagging your sword and winking at your sailors." The princess consort spat.
"I am a knight and a warrior, and I have played my part faithfully for ten years, I am owed some -" He was cut off again.
"You are owed nothing!" Rhaegon shouted. "For ten years, you have indulged yourself at court. Bought the finest horses, drunk the rarest of wines, fucked the lustiest boys, this was the arrangement you made with Rhaenyra. We have not begrudged you, but... you do not desert your post when the storm lashes."
"The wise sailor flees the storm as it gathers." Laenor countered.
Rhaegon looked his wife and sister. They knew that Laenor had made up his mind and nothing will change it, and he had no choice but to force him. "Very well, I command you, as the crown prince, and heir to the throne you are commanded to remain in King's Landing and at your wife's side." Laenor angrily left the room. "I'm sorry. I wish I didn't have to force him." Rhaegon apologized to his wife.
"You did the right thing, my love." Laena said. "Our children are in more danger than ever."
"It brings me great comfort in knowing that you will do anything to protect them." Rhaenyra added.
"Thank you both for supporting me." Rhaegon smiled.
Dragonstone
Prince Daemon and Lady Cerelle were watching as Daeron was practicing his archery. He had fired four arrows and missed.
"Try again, my prince." The master at arms of Dragonstone, Ser Devon said. "Your father and mother are watching."
Daeron looked up and saw his mother and father looking at him.
"Go on, Daeron. Try again." Daemon urged.
The 7 year old boy took a deep breath. Relax your bow arm. Ser Devon advised. Suddenly an arrow hit its mark, and when everyone looked where it originated from, they saw Daemons daughter, 9 year old Joanna. She smirked and curtsied. Daeron then chased her and Lady Cerelle chuckled.
"They're more like you than me." Cerelle said.
"Yes well, ever since she claimed Silverwing, Joanna thinks she's invincible." Daemon said. He looked at his wife. "You're all smiles these days."
"Why wouldn't I be? I have a children that I love and a husband that's more tolerable that any I could imagine." Cerelle said.
Daemon scoffed. "At least one of us is happy in this marriage."
"Mask it all you want, but I know that this is what you wanted. A family that looks to you for guidance." Cerelle said.
"My prince, my lady." A messenger came to them. "A raven from King's Landing." He handed the letter to Daemon.
"It seems the black dragon is finally coming home." Daemon said.
"Rhagons coming here? That is a surprise." Cerelle said. "What of Rhaenyra?"
"She's off to Driftmark with her family." Daemon said.
"Well well. I'd say I'm more surprised. Usually Rhaegon comes here with his wife and sister and fucks them all through his visit." Cerelle smirked.
"Yes well, perhaps my nephew wants some time with his wife." Daemon said. "Regardless of his reason, we should prepare for his arrival. Watch the children. I'm going for a flight."

"Why can't I go with them, mother?" Aemond asked. He had just been told by his mother that he can't leave for Dragonstone with his brother.
"Because I said so." Alicent plainly said.
"It's not fair! You promised!" Aemond yelled.
"I never promised, but you're needed here." Alicent said. "You will have a dragon, Aemond, but you cannot go to Dragonstone."
"I want to spend time with Rhaegon. The last time he left for Dragonstone he stayed for months! Now you're refusing me to have time with my brother! It's not fair!" Aemond continued yelling at his mother.
Alicent remembered when Rhaegon left for Dragonstone with Laena and Rhaenyra 9 months ago. Rhaenyra came back pregnant, but hid that it was Rhaegons child by inviting Laenor, and Laena was also currently pregnant.
"Please, Aemond. I need you to understand that this is for your own good." Alicent begged.
"No. It's for your own good." Aemond then left the room in tears. Alicent herself started crying. She hated her life and always wondered what would happen if she married Rhaegon.
The next day
Rhaenyras chambers
Rhaegon was about to leave for Dragonstone, but had to say farewell to Rhaenyra and his children.
"Be good to your mother. I'll see you all in a few days." Rhaegon told his children. "I promise we'll all go for a flight where ever you wish." He smiled. Rhaegon was sad because he had never been away from his children before, but with everyone seeing that Rhaenyras children could indeed be fathered by Rhaegon, the crown prince had to be more cautious.
Jace ran to his mother and hugged her leg. "It's alright. Your uncle will spoil you all." Rhaenyra said.
"I'll miss you, Visenya." Rhaegon said.
"I had something made for you, uncle." Visenya handed Rhaegon a necklace with a steel dragon claw on it.
"This is a beautiful gift, Visenya." Rhaegon then hugged his daughter. "Thank you." Rhaegon walked to Rhaenyra who was holding Joffery/Baelon. He gently cupped her cheek with his hand. "It's only a few days." Rhaenyra smiled at her brother. He then looked at Joffery/Baelon. "I'll see you soon." Rhaegon kissed Joffery/Baelons forehead and ruffled Jacaerys' hair. The young boy watched in sadness as his uncle left the room.
"We will see him soon and spend more time on Dragonstone than we did the last time. I promise." Rhaenyra assured her oldest son.
"Is Rhaegon Targaryen our father?" Jacaerys asked. "Are we all bastards?" He and Visenya had suspected for some time that Laenor wasn't their father and needed to know the truth.
Rhaenyra looked around to see if anyone could hear her son. She then looked at Jacaerys. "You and your siblings are Targaryens. That's all that matters." She then kissed the top of her sons head. Visenya looked at her mother. She knew Rhaenyra was lying because she caught her kissing Rhaegon once when they were on Dragonstone.
Rhaegon saw to his family as they were placed in the wheelhouse carriage that would take them to the dragonpit. He had Ser Erryk and Ser Lorent accompany them. They would be on the ship that will house Corwyn, the handmaidens and maester Gerardys. Rhaegon turned to see Harwin walking to him. His best friend was to return to Harrenhall and he wouldn't know when they would see each other again.
"You can have one punch. Anywhere except my cock. I'm still using it." Rhaegon lightly chuckled. He felt bad for threatening Harwin and wanted to make up for it somehow. He braced himself for Harwin to attack him, but instead he was hugged by Harwin.
"I'm going to miss you, brother." Harwin said.
"As am I. Rhaegon said. "We'll see each other again."
"Yes we will." Harwin said. They broke the hug and Harwin walked to his horse.
Rhaegon saw his youngest brother run to him. "I want to go with you." Aemond said.
"I know, but your mother refuses." Rhaegon said. He then knelt down to the boy's level. "I promise I'll return as quick as possible. I'll get you that dragon, brother."
"Please take me with you." Aemond started crying.
Rhaegon hugged him. "I'm sorry. I'll write to father so that you and your siblings can visit me." Rhaegon then got into the wheelhouse carriage and looked at his wife.
"Are you alright?" Laena asked.
"No, but I will be." Rhaegon said.
Dragonstone
A few days later
"He always has to fucking show off." Daemon said. His family gathered to meet Rhaegon and his family, but we're surprised when they arrived on dragonback. They watched and Vhagar unleashed her flames and Slyrak flew right through it. Rhaegon was unharmed. The people applauded while Daemon rolled his eyes.
Hours later Rhaegon and Daemons family had supper. While Rhaegon was happy to be home, he couldn't help but stare at the empty seats. He missed Rhaenyra and his children. He loved his family with Laena, but he was always happier when everyone was here together.
"So what's next for the Black Dragon?" Daemon asked.
"Well we are here to see of Silverwing managed to lay a fresh clutch of eggs for Corwyn to choose a dragon." Rhaegon said.
"Will the princess Rhaenyra be joining us, my prince?" Cerelle asked.
"She's on her way to Driftmark, but she and her family will be joining us in a few days." Rhaegon answered.
Daemon cleared his throat wanting his wife to remain silent. "I'm sure that you and I can see if Silverwing laid a clutch of eggs on the morrow."
"Thank you uncle." Rhaegon said. The rest of the dinner went well, but Laena could see that something was bothering her husband.
Rhaegon and Laenas chambers
A few hours after supper, Rhaegons head was tossing left and right.
Rhaegon was in Harrenhall and he saw the Hand of the King sleeping hin his bed. He then saw smoke coming from under the door.
"Wake up, my lord. Wake up!" Rhaegon shouted, but Lyonel couldn't hear him.
Lord Hand, Lyonel Strong was coughing and heard a loud banging coming from his son's room. He then smelt smoke.
"Fire! Fire!" Harwin shouted.
"Harwin!" Lyonel yelled.
"Father, I will burn!" Harwin yelled.
"No. Harwin!" Rhaegon shouted. He tried to touch the door, but instead fell right through it.
"Harwin!" Lyonel yelled again. He then touched the door knob but it was hot. His son was screaming for help on the other side. "Ah, Harwin! Hold on son I'm coming!"
"Try harder Harwin! Please!" Rhaegon shouted. He couldn't touch anything.
They both tried to open the door. Lyonel tried with everything he had but inhaling the smoke was making him weak. Just then the structure in Lyonels room began to fall and it collapsed on to of Lyonel.
"Father! Father!" Harwin screamed and his legs started to burn and the structure collapsed on him as well.
"No!" Rhaegon shouted.
Lyonel Strong and his eldest son had passed away.
"Harwin!" Rhaegon shouted and he shot up from his bed.
"My love. It's alright." Laena tried to calm Rhaegon down. "It's just a nightmare."
"I have a strange feeling. I have to go to Harrenhall." Rhaegon said. He then got out of bed and got dressed.
"Now?" Laena asked.
"Yes. Rhaenyra will arrive in a few days. Tell Daemon he may go forth in searching for the dragons egg. I need to know if what I saw was true." Rhaegon said. Before Laena could protest, Rhaegon left the room.
Kings Landing
Alicents chambers
After a discussion with Larys Strong, the queen had realized that the clubfoot was more dangerous than she thought.
"What are children but a weakness? A folly? A futility? Through them you imagine you cheat the great darkness of its victory. You will persist forever, in some form or another. As if they keep you from the dust. But for them, you surrender what you should not. You may know what is the right thing to be done, but love stays the hand. Love is a downfall. Best to make your way through life unencumbered if you ask me:" Larys said as he smirked at the queen
"Your father and brother. They're dead?" Alicent asked in a frightened tone.
"You've heard the stories of Harrenhall, my lady. It was built in hubris by Harren the Black as a monument to his own greatness. Blood mixed into the mortar. It is said yo be a cursed place. That it passes judgment to all who pass beneath its gates." Larys continued.
"And you pass judgment?" Alicent asked.
"The queen makes a wish. What servant of the realm would not strive to fulfill it?" Larys smiled and looked at Alicent. "I assume that you will write to your father."
"Larys... I did not wish for this." Alicent said.
Larys smiled at her. "I feel certain you will reward me when the time is right."
Harrenhall
A few days later
Rhaegon arrived in Harrenhall on Slyrak and saw smoke coming from the castle.
"No." He whispered.
"My prince. We did not expect you." A knight said and bowed.
"What happened here?" Rhaegon asked.
"The hand and his son. Burnt alive a few nights ago, my prince." The knight said. "We held a funeral yesterday."
Rhaegon held back his tears. "Was the king informed?"
"Yes, my prince." The knight said.
"Take me to where you buried them." Rhaegon said. The knight took the crown prince to where his best friend was buried. "Leave me."
"Yes, my prince." The knight bowed and left.
Rhaegon started crying. "I'm sorry, my friend. The crown prince heard footsteps behind him. I told you to leave me, Ser."
"Oh, he's left already. I just needed you to be alone." An unfamiliar voice said. When Rhaegon turned around, he saw a man carrying a warhammer. He stood at 6 foot five inches tall and was muscular.
"Who are you?" Rhaegon asked.
"To kill you and your family." The man brought his hammer down at Rhaegon, and the crown prince managed to roll out of the way.
Rhaegon unsheathed his sword and ran to the man. He then jumped and plunged his sword into the man's chest. The assassin spat out some blood and fell to the ground.
"What did you mean about killing my family?!" Rhaegon shouted.
The assassin laughed. "We waited... waited for you all... all t... to be in the same place. T... the man who paid... paid me wants you erased from the his... histories. Just as you erased him." The assassin closed his eyes and died.
Rhaegon removed his sword and saw the guards running to him. "Send a raven to King's Landing. My father must know what has happened. Do it now!" Rhaegon then ran to his dragon, mounted him, and flew to Dragonstone.
Dragonstone
Laena sat and watched her children play. She was worried about Rhaegon since she hadn't received any word from him.
"I think he does love you, you know." Rhaenyra said. She had arrived with Laenor and her children a few days after Rhaegon left.
"I believe you, but he'll never love me as much as he loves you." Laena said.
"Laena-" Rhaenyra was cut off by the princess consort.
"It does not pain me. I've made my peace long ago. I'm worried about him. He's been having dreams again or nightmares." Laena said.
"He never told me." Rhaenyra said.
"He hasn't told me either, but I noticed that he rarely sleeps." Laena said.
"How do you help a man who doesn't want help?" Rhaenyra asked.
"I truly don't know." Laena said.
"Mother?" Laena turned to see her daughters and son.
"Yes, sweetlings." Laena responded.
"Can we go to see grandmother and grandfather on our way to King's Landing?" Baela asked.
"Yes, of course we can." Laena said.
"Can Visenya, Jace, and Luke join us?" Rhaena asked.
"Only if the princess Rhaenyra agrees." Laena said.
Before Rhaenyra could answer, they heard an unfamiliar voice. "Where is the black dragon?"
Laena got a fright and moved her children behind her. "Who are you?"
Rhaenyra was worried since she had not seen her children as well.
"When I move, you run and get Daemon." She told her daughters in high valyrian.
"Mother no." Baela protested.
"Do as you are told and remember I love you three. Now!" Laena and Rhaenyra moved and attacked the man. Baela, Rhaena, and Corwyn ran out the door, but Baela stopped.
"Find Daemon." Baela said.
"What about you?" Rhaena asked.
"Just go!" Baela shouted.
Baela entered the room only to see the man backhand her mother and Rhaenyra. They fell down and Laena on her stomach. Baela then pulled out a dagger that her father had given her and repeatedly stabbed the man in his back, but he did not die. Instead, he smacked Baela, and she fell.
"No!" Rhaenyra shouted. Suddenly, Daemon entered and stabbed the man in his throat and helped Rhaenyra. "Get Laena." Rhaenyra said, and Daemon carried the pregnant princess consort.
Just when Daemon was about to leave, he saw more assassins coming to them.
"Fuck." Daemon said. Suddenly the assassins were over powered by the household guards and two Kingsguard.
"Something isn't right." Laena said. "I think the babe is coming."
"It's too soon." Rhaenyra said.
"It doesn't matter. We have get her to a room." Daemon said and took Laena back to her chambers. Outside, Slyrak burnt the assassins and once they were cleared, Rhaegon climbed off Slyrak and rushed inside. When he got to his rooms, he saw Laena struggling to get the babe out. "Nephew. You're here." Daemon said.
"What happened?" Rhaegon asked.
"She fell on her stomach." Rhaenyra said.
"My children?" Rhaegon asked.
"Cerelle is watching them. All of them." Daemon said.
"Thank you, uncle." Rhaegon then walked to Laena and could see that she was in pain. "I'm here Laena."
"I'm sorry... I can't." Laena wanted the pain to stop.
"You can. I believe in you. I always have." Rhaegon tried to encourage here. For the next few hours Laena pushed, but to no avail. Rhaegon looked at maester Gerardys. "Maester?"
"I've reach the limit of my art, my prince. The child will not come." Maester Gerardys said. "I'm afraid the only other option is to cut open the womb and remove the babe."
"Laena won't survive, will she?" Rhaegon asked.
"No, my prince." Maester Gerardys said.
"Rhaegon..." Rhaenyra whispered. She knew that he was faced with a terrible choice.
"Make sure my wife and child survive, maester." Rhaegon said.
"Yes, my prince." A few more hours of pushing the babe finally came out. Rhaegon had another son, but he was malformed, and unfortunately the babe died an hour later. Prince Rhaegon at by Laenas side and waited for her to wake up. Laena woke up three days later but, she looked pale.
"Rhaegon?" Laena called out.
"You're awake." Rhaegon said.
"Our baby?" Laena asked and Rhaegon shook his head. "I'm so sorry, my love."
"I'm sorry for leaving." Rhaegon apologized.
"I love you, Rhaegon. From the first day I met you, I loved you. I'm grateful to you and our children." Laena said. "I feel it slipping away. Please tell our children that I love them."
"No. Laena, you're going to make it. I'll have every maester help you. I'm going now." Rhaegon said. He refused to believe that the mother of his children was beyond saving.
"Take me outside. Take me to Vhagar. I wish to fly." Laena weakly said.
Rhaegon sadly looked at his wife. He then carried her bridal style to her dragon, and once they got to Vhagar, Laena weakly gasped and touched the queen of all dragons one last time. Her hand then went limp as she let out her last breath and died.
Rhaenyra watched as Rhaegon cried over his dead wife's body and she herself shed some tears.
