13:Quinn
Finding Myself
We both eat the delicious pizza in silence. I guess we are both still thinking about what just happened upstairs. I couldn't help myself, I had to say. I had to make her aware that I did notice her. That she isn't a nobody.
"So, what are the next plans?" Riley says, interrupting my thoughts.
"Uh well, I had planned to watch some movies and eat some candy or popcorn unless you want to do something else?"
"That sounds good, I don't really want to go off the plan les again," she says while laughing nervously.
"Do I make it hard for you?" I blurt out.
"Um, what do you mean?"
"Am I too much for you?" I ask.
"No. You're perfect the way you are," she replies with a smile. Her answer makes my heart race and I start blushing.
However, before I can say anything else, my mom interrupts," don't mind me. I'm just grabbing some pizza." Riley and I both chuckle as she quickly runs back to her office with the plate of pizza to finish working.
"So, um, what movie do you have planned for us to watch?" Riley asks.
"I have a few options again. You're going to need to pick one," I tell her.
"Ugh," she groans out and plops down on the couch. She raises her hands in the air as if to shrug, "I don't know what to pick!"
I chuckle and say, "I haven't even given you the options yet. Do you want to watch a comedy or romantic movie?"
She thinks for a long time before answering, "both?"
I roll my eyes at her then go look at my family's movie collection to find a movie that fits. After searching for a few minutes I find Crazy Rich Asians and feel like Riley would want to watch it. I loved the movie so I think she will too.
I walk back over to her and shake her leg so that she can left her head up from the couch and show her the movie. She gives me the thumbs up and I can't help but chuckle a little at how cute and awkward she is.
I quickly make a bowl of popcorn and Riley follows me back to my room. She lays down comfortably on the bed as I put the movie on my tv. Then I make my way to the bed and jump on it, almost laughing Riley to the floor.
"Hey, careful," she says as she hits me with my pillow. I roll my eyes at her and hit her back with another pillow. Then we get comfortable under the blankets and I can't help but be a little nervous due to how close we are. We are barely a couple of inches apart, if I wanted to I could touch my leg with hers or brush my hand against hers as well. But I know better than to do that, so I keep a safe distance away.
The movie starts and we are enjoying it while eating popcorn, but somewhere close to the end, we happen to fall asleep since it's almost midnight. When I finally wake up I notice that Riley has moved closer to me. Her head is gently laying against my shoulder and she is sound asleep.
She looks so cute, all I want to do is gently caress her cheek. I raise my hand to do it, but stop just a few centimeters away. I can't do it, she might wake up and I don't want to have to explain what I was doing. So, I try to calm down and relax so that I can fall asleep.
After a few minutes I feel Riley moving in her sleep and open my eyes. Riley is rubbing her eyes then opens them and looks up at me in shock. She quickly sits up and asks, "Did we fall asleep already?"
"Yeah," I whisper softly.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take up half of your bed, I'll sleep on the floor," she adds. She gets up to move, but I instinctively grab her arm softly and pull her back into bed with me.
"You were fast asleep, it's okay Riley. Go back to sleep," I say. I know she is very tired, she can barely keep her eyes open and I really don't want her to sleep on the floor. It's uncomfortable and cold and I will miss her being next to me.
"I dont know, I don't want to be a bother to you," she replies looking anywhere but at me.
"Riley, you are not a bother to me. Just go back to sleep. Don't leave the bed, please," I beg.
Riley looks at me intensively for a few seconds before agreeing and she lays down again and I pull the covers over us. Riley looks at me sleepily and whispers, "Are you sure you want me to stay?"
"Yes. I don't want you to be anywhere but by my side," I whisper as I notice her eyes closing and soon she is fast asleep. I smile one more time before closing my eyes too and falling asleep.
The next day I open my eyes because the sun is shining through my window onto my face. I'm facing the direction of the alarm and notice that's it's seven in the morning. Then it hits me, something warm is around my waist.
I look over and notice that Riley is nuzzled into my back and has her warm wrapped around me, holding me tightly to her. I'm too tired and happy to do anything about it, so I snuggle closer to her and let sleep overwhelm me again.
The next time I wake up it's about an hour later and Riley is tossing and turning in her sleep. Her arm isn't around me anymore and it seems like she is having a nightmare. I sit up and try to wake her up because I'm worried.
Riley opens her eyes wide and sits up in a apic. She is breathing hard and sweating like crazy. She looks at me in fear and I try to be soothing.
"Hey, it's okay. It's just Quinn. You're going to be okay," I whisper.
Riley looks around the room in fear and faces me again and she looks like she is about to cry. So I immediately puts my arms around her and bring her in for a hug. "It's okay, it's okay," I repeat over and over again as I rub her back. She is trembling and I pull back so that I can put my hands on her cheeks so that she focuses on me.
"You're safe. You're with me and I won't let anything happen to you," I whisper. Riley finalls nods up and down before pulling me in for another hug. I hug her tightly and continue to reassure her for a few more minutes before she whisper a soft, "sorry."
"You have nothing to be sorry about. It's okay, baby," I blurt out. My heart starts beating like crazy because of the accidental slip up. I wait for her to say something about the word, but she doesn't. She just continues to tremble and I wrap the blanket around us.
After a bit more time has passed, she begins to calm down and loosens her grip on me. She slowly pulls away to rub her eyes. "I had a bad dream," she tells me.
I'm glad she told me what happened, but I can also tell she is holding something back by the way she bites her lip. I don't want to pressure her now, I know it would be too soon to do that. I rather her calm down now. So I reach out to gently grab her hand and say, "it's okay. The dream is over now. You're safe with me. I promise."
She smiles softly at me and moves closer to rest her head on my shoulder. I'm shocked at the sudden contact, but it's also so relaxing. It just feels so right.
Suddenly my stomach growls, ruining the tender moment we are having. I want to kick myself for that, but Riley just starts giggling and it's so cute. I'm happy to see her a little bit better.
"We should go make breakfast, someone very hungry," she teases.
I roll my eyes at her and reply, "Excuse me, we? You mean I. You will probably burn my kitchen remember," I joke.
We both chuckle and I get out of bed first. I turn to her and extend my hand to help her up, she takes it and gets up.
"Thank you," she whispers.
"Anything for you," I reply making her smile. Her beautiful hazel eyes twinkle in the sunlight and my heart skips a beat.
I have to admit that this girl has my heart. As much as I hate to admit that, there's nothing I can do about it.
I'm in for a great heartbreak, I just know it, but I can't help but fall for her.

Author note: I might be sick because of food poisoning, but that won't stop me from writing. Don't worry about me, I'm doing better. I went to a doctor and got prescribed medicine.
I'm on bed rest and so bored, so I had to write. It helps me feel better.
I hope you guys are having a good vacation! Enjoy!
