19: Riley
Finding Myself
It's finally the day of the party and I regret saying yes to going. I'm actually dreading it. I hate these kinds of parties so much. I'm always so bored and have to refuse alcohol and weed several times.
I quickly head to my room to change into something comfortable. Since the party is mostly to get drunk, I don't have to get dressed nice. I just slip on some black jeans and put on a pink hoodie and grab an extra jacket. Once I'm down I put on my shoes and head over to Mason's house. Quinn and I are supposed to meet there so that Mason can drive us to the party and I'll most likely drive us back. And since we might come home late, Quinn will spend the night over at my house.
When I knock on the door, Mason's little brother opens the door. He gives me a big smile and let's me in then I close the door behind me as the little guy runs back to his room to probably continue playing a video game. I walk over and sit down on the couch as I watch Mason trying to sneak alcohol to the door. Im surprised that he was able to buy it and sneak it from his room upstairs to down stairs without anyone, especially his brother seeing.
Then I hear the doorbell ring and I get up to open it and meet Quinn. I have to take a step back to comprehend how beautiful she looks. Oh my god, she so pretty.
She's wearing a beautiful informal dark blue dress. It fits her every curve and helps make her light green eyes pop. She also has her hair down, parted to the side and a little bit of makeup on. Our styles clash as we stand next to each other and I can't take my eyes of her.
"Oh god, am I overdressed?" She says as she starts to panic.
"Uh, yeah a bit," I reply nervously, "but you look great." My comment makes her smile widely and we just stare at each other for a few seconds before I hear Mason behind us.
"Alright, are we ready to go," Mason interrupts.
"Um, not yet. Do you want to change, Quinn? It might be a bit cold," I ask.
Before Quinn reply, Mason buts in to say, "No, we don't have time. The party already started and I need to deliver this alcohol. Let's go!"
Mason quickly walk out the door to his car with the bottles. Quinn and I follow close behind, but a breeze passes by and Quinn shivers a little.
"Hey, it doesn't matter if we are late, if you're cold, I can lend you clothes," i tell her.
"No, it's fine. I'm fine with being the best dressed at the party even if I'll be cold," she teases.
I chuckle before adding, "You'll definitely be the most beautiful one there tonight."
Quinn blushes and looks away from me, but mumbles, "You're not so bad yourself." She's so quiet that I barely hear her, but her comment makes me smile.
Quinn and I get in the car and Mason drives us to where the party will be. It's happeneing at some football teammates house and it doesn't take long to get there. Mason parks on the street and we hop out to walk to the house.
Quinn shivers again and I take off the extra jacket and hand it to her. She gladly takes it and wraps it around herself before he head inside.
Once inside we spent the first few minutes saying hello to everyone, then lose Mason. He goes of with his football buddies to play beer pong. He left me alone so fast and I'm incredibly glad that I have Quinn by my side still.
Some cheerleaders offer us alcohol, but I refuse and so does Quinn. "You know you can drunk if you want to, don't let me stop you from having fun," I whisper to her.
"Riley, being with you is fun. More fun than being drunk at this party," she replies making my heart warm up.
A couple of guys walk over to compliment Quinn on her looks, but I can tell she looks uncomfortable. She won't let me leave her side, not that I would want to be anywhere else. Finally I can tell that she has had enough and she grabs my hand and pushes past all the guys to the dance floor.
"We are going to dance. Just like last week. Just follow my steps," she whispers before putting her hands on my waist.
I nervously sway to the rhythm of the music with her and then she suddenly twirls me around. I wasn't expecting it and I almost fall, but Quinn catches me on time and pulls me back up. We both chuckle at that mishap and relax a little bit as we continue dancing.
"See, you're slowly getting better," she comments making me blush a little bit. We continue swaying, but I feel a hand on my shoulder and I turn around.
"Heyyyy. Babyyyy, how are youuuuu," Mason tries to say. Wonderful, he's already drunk. We haven't even been here for an hour yet. I'm guessing he horribly lost at beer pong.
Mason stumbles and almost falls on me, but Quinn pushes him back up. "Babyyyy, I just. Just wanted to say. I love you," he stammers out.
"I love you too, Mason," I reply. He leans in to kiss me but I turn so that he kisses my cheek. His breath reeks of alcohol and I have to hold my breath. He points at my actions but he forget as sound as his friends call him back. He stumbles over to them and they disappear in the crowd. He's probably going to play more beer pong.
I turn around to face Quinn, but she's nowhere to be found. I push past people looking for her, but I have no luck. It's starting to get stuffy inside so I make my way to the backyard. I want to get away from the party and just relax.
I quickly feel the grass to check if it's wet or dry. It feels fine so I get down to lay in the grass and look up at the sky. I'm basically all alone outside since everyone is inside partying. I make sure to check my surrounding every couple of minutes though just in case. However, after a bit I tend to calm down and stare at the sky. It isn't very clear because of the smog, but I can see a couple of stars. I recognize some constellations and name them out in my mind.
"Why are you laying on the grass?" Someone asks, interrupting my peaceful thoughts.
I expect it to me some cheerleader or drunk girl passing by so I don't answer. A few more seconds pass before I hear the person walk closer and look down at me. I look up and notice it's Quinn. She is smiling down at me with amusement.
"Oh, hello," I blurt out.
"Hi," she says giggling. "What are you doing out here all alone on the grass?"
"I needed to get away from the party," I reply. Quinn nods in understanding.
"Can I lay down with you?" She asks.
"Of course. Make yourself at home," I reply and she rolls her eyes at me as she makes the attempt to get down. She's so beautiful in the moonlight, I can't help bit stare at her admirably.
Suddenly my heart starts beating like crazy as she lays down next to me, just a couple of centimeters away. I look back up to the stars to calm down.
I don't know what's going on with me.
