Chapter 15

The best boyfriend ever

My Heart Belongs To A Football Player (boyxboy)

Over the next month, surprisingly little changed. The football team avoided them, and gave them dirty looks occasionally, but they basically left them alone. They had told Quent's  family about their relationship, and they seemed to be okay with it as well. In fact, after everything happening so abruptly before, the sudden change in pace was unexpected. And it was freaking them out a bit.

But for Quent, he had too much on his mind to worry about that. Soon it would be Gabe's eighteenth birthday, and he wanted to do something special for him. But he had no idea what. Romance wasn't exactly something that came easy for him. If Gabe had been a girl, it would be simple. Buy some expensive chocolate, go to a fancy restaurant, make out a bit and then go home.

But with Gabe, that just didn't seem right. It was too ordinary for their extraordinary relationship. He wanted to do something special, something they'd both really remember. Somehow sitting over some nice food wasn't really them. He needed something different, romantic, that expressed both of them. And he was stumped.

Talking to Gabe didn't help either. Subtlety wasn't one of his strong points, and Gabe was basically oblivious anyway so the only way to get any actual information would be to just say: "What do you want to do for your birthday?" And even that he was unsure about since Gabe probably didn't have any idea either anyway.

Gabe was wondering what to do for his birthday too. Last year he'd just thrown a massive party and invited everyone important. This year everyone important to the school hated his guts, and the one person really important to him seemed to constantly have something else on his mind. He was oblivious, but not that oblivious.

Gabe didn't know what was bothering Quent recently, and Quent didn't seem to want to tell him. It was starting to worry him. All kinds of possible scenario's ran through his mind. Maybe Quent had some kind of terminal illness. Maybe there was someone else. Maybe someone close to him had died. Maybe he'd decided he wasn't gay and it was just a phase. Maybe his family had decided to move back to England. Maybe there was someone else. What if there was someone else? It was all so frustrating! Realistically he knew that Quent would never cheat on him, but when people didn't tell him things his head just went crazy.

But after a while of tearing his hair out, he just decided to quit it. There was really no use worrying about it after all. He trusted Quent, and he knew Quent trusted him. Whatever it was, Quent clearly wasn't going to tell him, so it was just a waste of time. Besides, his hair was way too awesome to be torn out over something so trivial.

In the end, Gabe just had a nice dinner with his family, and went Quad biking with Dav, which was incredibly fun. He'd had so much time in a whirlwind of presents and relatives crying over how he wasn't a kid anymore, there wasn't much time to think about Quent. Or maybe there was, but he just didn't really want to think about him. Either way, it seemed like seconds when suddenly a week had passed by and he hadn't seen or talked to Quent at all.

Gabe was just playing video games when he heard a knock on the door. He knew in his heart that it was Quent. Also, he could see him outside through the window. Slowly, he sauntered down the stairs and opened the door.

"Somehow I thought you'd be in a suit." He said, eyes tracing the simple shirt and shorts Quent had on.

"Do I seem like a suit person to you? They're uncomfortable and rip easily." Quent replied.

"Besides, suits and all that stuff aren't really our style. Plus, a suit would make what we're going to do be doing difficult. I have flowers though," Quent added, holding them out to Gabe.

Gabe took the flowers and smiled at Quent.

"So what is it, what we're going to be doing?" He asked.

Quent grinned and leaned towards him, giving him a soft peck on the lips.

"It's a secret," he whispered against Gabe's lips.

"Aaaaaargh!" Gabe groaned, pushing him away.

"You know I hate secrets! Why must you do this to me? You're evil."

"Whatever," Quent smirked, "Just get in the car; we need to be going."

Gabe hated not being able to see. The blindfold was annoying, and Quent had said if he took it off they'd just go to Burger King. At first he'd tried to work out where they might be going. Then he accepted he had a horrible sense of direction, and they were probably nowhere near where he thought they were. Quent kept feeding him chocolate though, which was nice.

They seemed to be going uphill. The ground was getting rockier, and he could definitely feel them going up. It was a slightly unnerving sensation with his eyes covered. Just as he was about to ask how  close they were, the car stopped, and he had the irrational thought that they might go sliding back down the hill they just came up.

"We're here." Said Quent, leaning over to untie the blindfold and give him a quick kiss, that soon turned into quite a long kiss. Before it could turn onto a full on make out session in the car, Quent reluctantly pulled back.

Once they were both out, they started to climb up the hill they had been previously scaling in the car. They walked hand in hand, Quent with a massive backpack he'd fished out the boot of the car. After a while they stopped to eat the food Quent had prepared, looking over at the incredible views of the city below them. They had all of Gabe's favourite foods, and some things he'd wanted to try, including an absolutely disgusting British substance called Marmite that Quent liked.

After some more hiking, they finally reached the top of the enormous hill.

"I think I know how this is going to go. We'll sit on top of the hill and look out at all of the pretty scenery and say sappy romantic stuff to each other. Nice, very nice." Gabe muttered.

"Hmmm." Quent mused. "We can do that if that's what you really want to do, but I think going hang gliding would be a lot more exciting."

"Wait, what? We're going hang gliding? Okay, I hate to admit this, but you are officially the best boyfriend ever." Gabe spluttered.

"Awww, I knew you'd like it. I haven't been able to see you much lately, because I had to learn how to use one of these things, but I hope this makes up for it." Quent replied.

Quent led him over to the hang glider, and showed him how to put on the special safety suit. He did a quick explanation of how the hand glider worked, and what to do. Then, they were off.

It was one of the most magical experiences of Gabe's life. The sun had just begun to set, painting the sky beautiful shades of red and orange and purple, and they were soaring through the skies with the wind swirling around them. It felt like flying, and Gabe could taste the freedom of the endless horizon.

"Happy Birthday Gabe!" Quent yelled to him, the breeze whipping away his words as they started the descent back to earth.

When they were finally back on solid ground, they both felt a little disappointed. It had been so relaxing, yet exhilarating that all Gabe wanted to do was have another try. It had been absolutely perfect, romantic but unique as well, something truly special he'd remember for the rest of his life.

They were so busy getting used to flat ground and getting out of their suits, that they didn't notice when a dark black car with blacked out windows slid ominously up to them. They also didn't notice when the slick, sunglasses wearing man and woman emerged from the car. They did however notice when a group of men charged up to them and started handcuffing them, and shoving them into a large van. But by then it was far, far too late.

Hahahahahahaha! Cliffhanger time! I know I was ages uploading this (sorry) but it's a long one, so it should be okay.

By the way, although I haven't replied to any comments I have read every single one, and they are all lovely, thank you so much!
