05| dinner with parents

"You're so slow!!!" Kane couldn't help but tease his shorter and younger sister.

They were heading back to their parents place for dinner again. It was their regular family dinners.

"I'm not. You are just fast" Enya retorted back. She clearly didn't inherit the tall genes.

Their mother wasn't the tallest human in the world, aka 5'2 while their father was average height, standing at 5'10.

Kane stood at 6'2 while Enya was 5'3 tall. They were an interesting family.

"Mama's gonna kill us if we arrive late. Let's go" Kane signaled to Enya who ran off, grabbing her bag in the process.

As they were waking to Kane's car, they bumped into Leah who was just leaving.

"Oops sorry" Leah almost fell if not for being caught by Kane.

"No worries" Kane brushed it off. "So you heading for dinner?" He tried to ease the slightly awkward tension.

"Yeap" Leah said. Kane just nodded, unsure what to do with the awkward silence. Enya decided to break the awkward silence.

"Are you meeting anyone?" Enya asked. Kane had a feeling on what his sister was trying to do.

"Erm no?" Leah was a little taken aback. She didn't think much and wanted to just go back home, but she knew that it would be too rude if she tried to leave.

"Do you wanna come to our parent's place? We are having dinner tonight at my parent's place" Enya asked. She honestly hoped for an okay, as she had some tricks up her sleeves.

Kane on the other hand, was surprised by how welcoming Enya was when he was heard what Enya said. She had never been welcoming of the girls he had taken back to his place.

He also knew his parents were hard to please in terms of their lovers and who will be their future daughter or son in law respectively.

"You sure?" Kane muttered. He didn't want to overwhelm Leah. And judging from how she reacted to Austin yelling at her, he didn't want to sort of replicate the same scenario.

"Dad knows Leah and mom will be fine. It's just up to Leah" Enya quickly muttered back.

"It's fine, I don't want to impose. Besides, enjoy it with your family" Leah rejected, trying to be nice.

"Please" Enya gave her signature puppy dog eyes, similar to what Kane had given just earlier today.

As much as Leah would like to just stay at home and watch netflix and be an introvert, she decided to go.

One, the puppy dog eyes were hard to resist.

Two, she felt rude rejecting their offer, and three, she wanted to try to be somewhat sociable. This was the first step.

"Okay" She said after a prolonged silence, making Enya and even Kane smile.

"Let's go then" Enya said, linking arms with Leah as they both walked away, leaving Kane standing alone. "I'll text my mom we have a special guest"

She whipped out her phone while walking, shooting her mother a quick text.

Leah couldn't help but chuckle seeing Kane's shocked face when he was left behind. "Hurry up little man, let's go!"

He decided to stop daydreaming and start walking before his sister start nagging.

Kane caught up pretty soon as he had long legs. The two ladies stood at the car, awaiting for him to unlock the door.

He unlocked the door and got into the driver's seat, while Enya took the front seat and Leah sat at the back.

It was about a twenty minutes drive from the office before they arrived. Leah was starting to regret her decision coming here. She didn't know if she could do this and wanted to somehow fake an illness.

No, you can do this, her mind encouraged her, giving her some sort of strength to be more sociable.

"You okay?" Enya asked Leah who nodded and smiled to reassure her.

"Okay then, let's head on in" Enya said, pushing both her brother and Leah into their parent's place.

Being the gentleman Kane is, he opened the door for both his sister and Leah and entered the last.

They both expressed their appreciation, saying a 'thank you' to him.

When Leah stepped in, she couldn't help but admire the beautiful design and how magnificent the interior was.

It looked expensive yet has a sense of homely feeling.

"Leah?" Enya lightly called her who was still admiring the beautiful interior.

"Oh sorry. It's just that your parents place is beautiful" Leah said, still very much in awe of the beauty.

"I'll say thank you on behalf of them. But for now, let's eat" Enya said, guiding Leah to the dining table.

When they entered the dining room, Matthew and Audrey were sitting at the table, waiting for the three of them.

"Mom, Dad, we are back!! And Dad, Leah is the guest" Enya told them.

"Oh hey Leah! Welcome to our humble abode" Matthew welcomed her with open arms, giving her a pat on the back.

Audrey on the other hand, hugged her which shocked everyone in the room.

For Leah, she didn't expect immediate acceptance but still gave her a hug in return. She wouldn't want to leave a bad first impression.

As for the three De Luca's, it was a surprise seeing how welcome Audrey is even though they weren't acquainted.

"You remind me of someone" Audrey muttered but Leah still heard. They both smiled at each other politely, taking a seat.

"I hope you like grilled salmon. It's a Tuesday thing for our family" Audrey said which Leah smiled. It was one of her favorite foods.

"Yes actually Mrs De Luca, it's actually one of my favorite foods to eat" Leah shared with joy.

"That's great! Let's get eating! And call me Audrey" Audrey said as everyone started digging in, enjoying the meal.

Everyone finished their food quick, seeing how good it was. If they are slower, they will be stealing food from each other left and right.

It was mainly just silence as everyone was very focused on the food. The meal took okay about twenty minutes only.

After that, everyone headed on over to the couch where they rested.

"I'm so fullll! I feel pregnant" Enya whined, laying her head on Kane's lap.

"You look like you are" Kane teased jokingly, earning a smack from both his mother and sister.

"Don't be rude" The two said at the same time. Quite a creepy situation if you ask me.

"Anyways, if you don't mind me asking, how are your parents?" Audrey asked Leah. Kane knew Leah didn't like the topic on her family so he gave his parents, especially his mother a look that said 'don't ask', and then changed the topic.

"Do you guys want fruits?" Kane asked. Leah was grateful with him changing the topic and everyone thank god had a good EQ so they knew something was up.

Kane went into the kitchen to grab the bowls of fruits without hearing any response. He felt a little bad that Leah was slightly interrogated. Hopefully she isn't too overwhelmed, he though to himself.

He quickly returned back to the living room and saw a smile on Leah's face. He was glad to see everyone back to normal and laughing.

"Here are the fruits" Kane announced as he entered the living room, breaking up everyone's laughter.

"Thank you" Leah said, referring to both the previous incident and the fruits.

Everyone enjoyed the fruits, getting to know one another better. "What's your dream?" Enya asked.

"I want to start my own fashion business so I'm working to save money for my business" Leah shared.

"Oh, I have a friend and that maybe can help you. I think she would be more than willing to help you out" Enya shared.

"I don't mind so I'll let you know. Thank you for the offer" She thanked Enya, giving her a smile.

"That's a good dream. All the best Leah" Matthew said for the first time. As everyone could tell, he was a man of a few words and never spoke unless necessary.

"Yeap, I agree. Can't wait to see you on the top one day" Audrey encouraged.

"Thank you" Leah blushed a little at everyone's support. She looked at the time- 8.02 and realized she needed to go back home so that she could report to work on time tomorrow.

"Thank you everyone, but I need to head back home now" Leah expressed her gratitude to everyone for the dinner and their support.

"I'll drive you back home" Kane said without hesitation, shooting up from his seat.

"It's okay, I'll drive you back home" Kane told her who just nodded, knowing it was useless to talk.

Matthew, Audrey and Enya looked at each other smiling at how thoughtful Kane is.

"Bye Leah. See you tomorrow" Enya bid her goodbye.

"Bye bye Leah. Hope to see you soon" Audrey said while Matthew waved to her.

"Bye everyone and thank you for the food, it is delicious" Leah couldn't help but mention, making them chuckle.

Kane closed the door, and then went into his car, as usual opening the door for Leah.

"Ready?" Kane asked.

"I'm ready" Leah smiled.

And off they left for Leah's place.
