So you know how people toss and turn and wrestle their blanket or bed sheets to try and get some shut-eye? Yeah, that's not me tonight.

Samantha and I both get ready for bed. She informs me that school will be staring three and a half weeks from now. I had some colorful words to say about that. It always bothers me when someone brings up school and when it starts again. It just makes my blood boil to a dangerous level.

Seriously, no one wants to know when school starts. So keep it to yourself. Okay?

"What do you think the first day of school will be like?" I ask. I'm sitting on Sam's dresser, watching the giant brunette get ready for bed. There's nothing else for me to do so I watch and wait. It's not in a creepy way so don't give me that look!

Samantha pulls on her shirt and flips her hair out of the collar. "Well, there's going to be a lot of yelling, a lot of fighting and a lot of introductions." Sounds about right.

"You signed up for anything like art or band or something?"

Samantha, who is focused on braiding her hair, still answers my question. "Art, but I only doodle. I don't draw masterpieces or anything worthy of being put in an art museum."

"Is this your last year?"

"Yep."

Once she's done, Samantha scoops me up and takes me to my house. It's weird to have a house inside a house, but you know as long as I have a house that gives me privacy, I don't care.

Sam sets me down outside the front door. I thank her and wish her good night before venturing into my home.

"You really wouldn't mind if I woke you up in the middle of the night?" Sam seems like she's intruding.

I stop shy of the door to turn to the girl. She's sitting with her knees up to her chest, a nervous look in her eyes. Sam may feel bad to bother me in the middle of the night, but to be honest, I don't care if she woke me up every night.

"No," I say straight-faced. "You won't be barging in or intruding or anything like that."

"But what if-"

I cut the girl off before she can jump to any conclusions. "Stop! Look, I may act like a hard-ass sometimes, but I seriously don't mind you waking me up. Got it?"

Sam nods. "Got it. Good night, Caesar."

"Good night."

I walk in and shut the door. Samantha sighs heavy enough for me to hear the name on her lips.

"Caesar..."

My heart jumps. I get the urge to swing open the door and run to her, to comfort her, but I stay hidden behind my door. What's wrong with me? Move! But I don't. It's like my legs are locked up or something.

"Sam..."

All the lights go out and silence fills the house. I fall flat on my bed and roll up in the blankets, able to relax freely. Oh, I've missed my bed so much.

Sometimes it can be tiring to hang around Samantha. I think it's because of how big she is. Tall! Tall not wide. She's not fat. Definitely on the thin side, but not too thin. She's... forget it. I'm just digging a deeper hole for myself.

My eyes blink once. Twice, then they shut until the morning comes.

I wake up with a cold sweat covering my body, my clothes sticking to me, and a fast heart rate. I can't remember my dream no matter how hard I try to push it into focus, I can't find it. "What the hell."

I throw the blankets off me to get out of bed. Descending downstairs to get a glass of water and maybe something to munch on.

I stare out to the living room as I take sips, still fishing for what startled me awake. Faint echoes play in my head. Voices chime like an average Sunday talk. This is no average Sunday though. I remember it so clearly.

I was walking down the street going to meet a friend at a restaurant. A small town that's close to my own, but these people flaunt their freedom to others. Thinking they're untouchable and that we shouldn't hide in fear.

What an ignorant town. Full of ignorant people.

My hand shakes with anger remembering that day. The one day I wanted to taste freedom but ended up losing it all in a matter of minutes.

"Grab them!" The excited voices of giants yelling and cheering each other on as people are snatched up their lives and homes. "We'll make a fortune off these little guys!"

I throw the half-filled glass against a wall. It shatters and water splashes everywhere. I'm shaking with so much rage that my knees buckle and I fall to the floor, hot tears inching to escape. Years of unchecked emotion have boiled over like a pot of water on a stove.

"Sons of bitches," I mutter coldly.

I could break everything in this house and I'd still have plenty of anger left over. It's not fair. It's not fair, damn it! Everyone can go about their day like nothing happened like they don't acknowledge the shitty actions they commit against someone so small and defenseless. How can someone live like that?

"Caesar?" Sam raps on the roof of the house.

I press my lips into a thin. Sam.

"Are you awake?"

I stay silent so I can listen to what the giantess has to say.

"You said you didn't care if I came and woke you up so..." There's a long pause. It's as if everything froze. Samantha speaks up in a weak voice, almost a whisper. "Nevermind."

Wait! I jump up. "Sam!" I call out, dashing to and up the steps. "Wait up!"

My knee still hurts but who gives a damn. I throw open the bedroom door and rush to the window and forcefully shove it open. "Sam!" I can spot out the shadow of her body in the dark. She hasn't walked away far enough to not hear me.

"Caesar?" Samantha walks briskly back over and squats down, hands on her knees. "You're awake."

I breathe in, knee throbbing and more tired than usual now, shoving my boiling anger down deep. "Yeah, I'm awake."

There's an awkward silence before one of us speaks up again.

"Do you want to sleep with me?" Samantha asks.

I burst into laughter. "You might want to reword your question there, Sam."

I swear on my life I could see the red tint on Samantha's cheeks in the dark. They glow like Rudolph's nose.

"I-I didn't mean it l-like that!" Samantha yelps, jumping to her full height. "Th-there's no way we can do that!"

"Calm down! I'm only teasing you!" I yell up to her.

Samantha cuts herself off mid-sentence. She breathes out a relieving sigh. "Oh, good. I thought you were being serious."

"Nah. I'm not that kind of person," I said waving her off casually. "But if it makes you feel better, I'd like to sleep with you." Don't take that out of context.

Samantha holds out her cupped hands under my window.

Now I'm not the best when it comes to climbing out of windows and I end up fumbling and falling into Samantha's warm awaiting hands.

The giantess snorts. "Are you okay? You took a tumble."

"I'm fine," I say rubbing my knee. "I'm just not the best when it comes to climbing out windows."

"I've noticed." I can hear the smirk on Samantha's face.

She stands up quickly. Luckily I'm already laying down like a dead fish on dry land. I think her hands have gotten warmer or maybe I'm just dying to sleep again.

Samantha crawls into bed, pulls the covers over her body, up to her neck and has set me down on the same pillow from before but I think it's gotten softer.

I roll over on my stomach and snuggle up against the pillow until I find a spot to relax and fall asleep.

Hot air rolls over my body. I crack open an eye to see the shadow of Samantha looming over me. Again plush lips press against my back. And again there is this zap, some type of electricity that I can't explain.

The feeling dulls when Samantha speaks up.

"Good night, Caesar," She whispers before rolling over and facing the opposite side of me.

I sigh and sit up. Something inside me is telling me to reach out to her. "Sam?"

There's a short pause. "Yes?"

"Did you have a nightmare?" I ask.

Her body shrinks. "Yes."

I know I shouldn't pry at but talking about nightmares could make them go away. "You wanna talk about it?"

"No." She answers quickly.

Shot down. I didn't stand a chance anyway, but it was worth a try. I guess I'm not the only one who needs to open up as well.

A defeated sigh escapes my lips. "Good night, Sam."

For some reason, I don't feel tired anymore. I'm wide awake and no matter how hard I tried to get comfortable, no sleep would come. Why the hell can I not fall asleep now? I could have fallen asleep a minute ago. What's the big idea!

"Great," I grumble, putting a hand on my cheek and resting my elbow on my knee. "I'll have to wait until I pass out from exhaustion."

In the meantime, I watch Samantha who is deathly still. It's almost scary to see how still she is. Maybe she too is waiting to pass out from exhaustion as well. Or she's trying to pretend to be asleep so I don't bother her.

The minutes quickly build into an hour and my eyes become heavy.

"I'm sorry... Caesar." Samantha whispers.

I blink, shocked to hear that she's still awake, but I can't fight the sleep off and exhaustion overcomes my body. Darkness consumes me.
