Chapter 21

A much needed rest.

Life is better with you!

A pair of hands come down and scoop me up gently. I wince though, falling into Willow's palm. My ankle throbs unhappily and so does my leg. I bite back the pain though.

"I apologize in advance for the scolding that Samantha may give you. She'll most likely blame this whole thing on me." Willow says with a tint of sadness. "That's not the point. I'll take you back since you can't walk back."

The Good thing is that the g-force doesn't bother me as much when Willow stands since I'm already laying down. She takes my crutches so I don't have to deal with keeping them from falling off.

The giant woman is a smooth and steady walker with minimum bounce, but that doesn't stop the bounce of walking up the steps. Stairs are always the worst for tinies. I always feel like I'm going to bounce right off the palm of someone's hand and fall to my death.

Willow stops in front of her daughter's room. She reaches for the knob but stops herself. I look up to see the pain in her eyes. The mother sighs and sets me down in front of the door. The woman is taller than I originally thought. She might be taller than Samantha but I can't fully tell.

I gulp and thank the woman for everything she's done for me. For fixing up my leg and foot, and not being some crazy scientist.

She hunches over, hands in her lap and a small smile on her face. It's very similar to Samantha's smile. "There's no need to thank me, dear. You're part of this family and I will treat you with as much care and respect as I do for my own daughter."

It's odd to think that Willow will be like a mom to me. Seeing that Samantha and I might become a thing in the future it'd be funny to try and explain to Willow that her daughter is dating a tiny/someone she treats like a second daughter. Even thinking about it is odd. Right now it's not the problem.

Willow straightens herself up and knocks on her daughter's door. She wishes me luck before walking away, too afraid to face her daughter just like Samantha too afraid to face her mom.

The door swings open with so much force it almost pulls me forward and makes me fall face first into the wood. I'm tired of falling and I'm tired of feeling pain.

I crane my neck to see a terrified Samantha who frantically looks in every direction before looking down to see me. I shift awkwardly between my crutches, sheepishly smiling while waving shyly.

That terrified face morphs into anger and I'm swept off the floor. I bite back the yelping pain that shoots up both my foot and leg.

"What were you thinking!" She barks. "You could have been killed!" Her grip is tighter than usual. If it gets any tighter then my cast will crumble and my leg will break all over again. "Do you know how dangerous it is for you to go walking around without me!?"

"Samantha, you're... you're crushing me." I squirm uncomfortably, hot tears forming in the corners of my eyes. "My leg..."

Samantha blinks the anger of out her eyes and loosens her grip to see my messed up leg and foot. The golden-brown orbs shimmer with worry again. "What... what happened."

I wince, not wanting to explain to everything, but I have to. "I went downstairs to see if I could get some answers. I Uh... I ended up breaking my leg and twisting my ankle."

Samantha shakes her head, muttering under her breath. "Idiot. What were you thinking."

"I wasn't thinking of anything," I respond. That's a dumb response,  but it's the truth. "I... I ran off wanting to find out about what happened between you and your mom."

Samantha frowns when I tell her that I was snooping around, trying to find answers on the scoop of family drama. It's an invasion of privacy.

"You left my room, climbed down some stairs, got your leg broken and I don't know how just because you wanted to find out about the issues between my mom and me." She says dryly with a sharp gaze. "I didn't pry when you said you didn't want to talk about your past so why do you feel the need to poke around in my past."

I'm silent, because I know I'm in the wrong.

"Look, I'm not going to say I'm fine, because I'm upset that you ran off without telling me and you tried to uncover something that has nothing to do with you," Samantha explains in simple terms. I know there are a lot of other things that she's mad about. "I'll spare you the humiliation and lecture you later when Ashley leaves." She then softens up and presses me against her bust. "For now I'm glad you're okay."

I breathe out a sigh of relief and relax against Samantha's soft, warm chest. I would love to lay here and listen to Samantha's heartbeat rhythmically until I pass out from exhaustion.

"You will have to explain to me why you have no pants on," Samantha adds.

I open my eyes and look down, right, no pants. Another sigh escapes my lips. "Your mom had to take off my pants so she could put a cast on my leg."

Samantha tenses up at the mention of her mom. "O-oh... so you've met her already?"

I nod, too tired to give a real answer.

Samantha says nothing. She walks back into the room and shuts the door behind her. Anyone can tell she's not comfortable with the news.

"Is that her?" Ashley asks.

"Yes, it's her," Samantha responds softly, rubbing two fingers up and down my back. "She's not doing too well."

Ashley hops up from her friend's bed and comes over to see what's up. She pushes a hand out of the way so she can see me. I don't mind letting her snoop. All I care about is winding down and napping against Samantha's chest.

"Yeah, she doesn't look so good," Ashley says.

I roll my eyes. "Thanks for pointing out the obvious."

Ashley frowns but Samantha keeps her calm by putting a hand on her shoulder and whispering something in her giant friend's ear. Ashley's eyes grown and she becomes somewhat slackjawed.

"Are you serious?" She mutters. Samantha nods with some worry in those golden-brown pools. All Ashley can do is shrug and try to reassure her friend that everything will be okay. "I mean, she had to meet your mom at some point. Might as well get it over with sooner than later."

"But I didn't want her to meet my mother by herself," Samantha whispers a little harsher than normal. "I wanted to be there with her so it would easier to explain everything to her."

"Well, I can't do anything about that."

"I'm right here you know." I finally announce. "I can hear both of you clearly."

The two look down at me. The lack of giving a damn makes Ashley lose interest, but for some reason, Samantha apologizes for talking about me in front of me.

I wave her off weakly. "It's... fine... it's fine! I don't care." I say sluggishly. My energy is somehow draining faster than I'd like. I think it's because my body has been in overdrive for too long and the gentle thumps of Samantha's heart is not helping.

Samantha giggles softly, holding me closer. "You're mighty tired. Would you like to lay down?"

"Here is fine." I slur, snuggling up against the beating heart. "Here... is fine."

Samantha giggles again and leans down to give me a kiss on the top of my head. I hum warmly, smiling like an idiot. Man, I think I'm on a drug or something. I wouldn't be surprised if Willow poked a needle in me and got me dosed up with a drug. It'd ease the pain and keep me asleep for a while.

The sway of large steps is like a rocking chair. Nice and slow with the hum of her heart is a good mix for me to fall asleep to.

Gravity shifts around us and Samantha lets go of me. I panic and grab onto the cloth, clinging to it for dear life, squeezing my eyes shut.

"It's okay, Caesar. It's okay." Samantha says in this sweet, mother-like tone. "You're safe."

I open my eyes, peeking around. Samantha is laying down comfortably on her bed. No wonder she let go. "Yeah..." I have little confidence in my voice. "Safe."

The look of pity crosses Samantha's face and she sighs, tired and defeated. "Everything is going to be okay."

Everything is going to be okay. Everything will be okay, I know it. But right now, I'm burned out. So much has happened today and I can't fully comprehend it all. My head hurts, muscles burn, and my bones ache.

I cuddle up against Samantha chest without a second thought and close my eyes, letting myself fall into a dark sleep.
