Lets play catch-up.
Life is better with you!
"So you two do know each other." Ashley finally speaks.
Neither of us answers her. We're too busy wrapped up in our thoughtless minds to respond since it's such a shock to see Mai again.
"We should leave them alone so they can play catch-up," Samantha says dragging her friend out and calling Bruce to follow.
Bruce, smiling like an idiot, stumbles out of his chair and exits his room, shutting the door softly so it doesn't startle us.
We let each other go, but the hesitation of doing so lingers.
We stare at one another, a smile slowly creeping on my lips before a bubbly rush of joyful emotion swells inside my chest and I begin to laugh. Mai, too, begins to laugh.
We laugh for no particular reason. Maybe it's the rush of everything or coming down from the high of finally seeing each other again. Either way, I'm happy.
"I missed you so much!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms up.
"Jeez, you've always been a wild child." Mai giggles.
I rub the back of my neck in a sheepish manner. "My girlfriend would agree with you on that," I mutter.
I've spoken too loud when I see the look of happy glee on Mai's face. "You went and got yourself a girlfriend! And here I thought you'd die a lonely old woman!" She then leans forward in her wheelchair with curiosity in her eyes. "Tell me about the lucky, or unlucky girl."
I jam a finger in her direction. "Don't make fun of my relationship. I've worked hard."
Mai giggles again, covering her mouth with a hand. "More like hardly working."
"I've worked very hard and Samantha can back me up on that claim too! Being gay is hard Mai." I claim.
"Caesar, it's like being straight but you're into girls. You just stare at boobs instead of pecks."
I pinch my nose, sighing deeply. "Why does every conversation have to have boobs in it."
Mai shrugs, humming I don't know as well.
The conversation falls into a silence that isn't awkward.
Then Mai pipes again. "I remember when you stared at me for long periods of time. You didn't know it, but I did. I knew you had feelings for me. I don't think you knew how to approach me since I'm straight and literally had a boyfriend at the time. That made things harder for you." She then smirks. "Plus you didn't know you were a lesbian at the time but I knew easily."
My face flares up from a fierce blush on my face. I hide my tomato face behind my hands, groaning as loud as humanly possible. "I'm so sorry!! I'm such an idiot!! I thought it was phase!!"
Mai snorts at my actions. She comes rolling up and rests a hand on my shoulder. "It's fine. At first, it was cute to watch you blush and squirm at my teasing, but the more I did it the more I realized you liked me. Caesar, I was flattered at the time, but I didn't want to hurt you."
I pull my hands away and I look my friend in the eye. "So why are you telling me this now."
Mai sighs, resting against wheelchair to find the right words to tell me. "That day I invited you out to meet me I was going to tell you, but fate had other plans, so I promised myself that if I ever saw you again I'd tell you."
Once again I hide my face. "I'm so embarrassed right now! Ugh!"
All Mai does is giggle at my torture. It's good to know something lighthearted is coming out of this conversation besides my embarrassment.
I pull my hands away from my face and speak like a normal person. "Thank you for telling me, Mai."
"Anything for a friend," Mai then rests her chin on a propped up arm. "As you were saying about this Samantha. What's she like? Is she funny? Shy? Is she easy to tease like you? Or is she hard-headed and stubborn? Does your heart just melt when you're around her? When she says your name or when she kisses you?"
If there is one thing that Mai wants to talk about it's my love life. Before Samantha, she'd tease me hardcore, telling me that I'd be single for the rest of my life as I'd be never tied down. Before getting caught I was more energetic and bubbly, surprising I know. I never took much interest in love. That's what drove Mai crazy! If I stared too long at someone, Mai was there to hop on my case and makes jabs at me to ask them out of a date. I was too shy to even get up and say hi to a stranger so asking them if they'd wanna go on a date is hard. But it finally happened and Mai is happy for me.
"Samantha is kindhearted. She's loving and caring, and sweet, and gentle. You'd love her, Mai." I say dreamingly. "She's a real beauty."
Mai smiles thoughtfully. "She sounds like the perfect girl for you."
"Yeah, she does." I sigh with a smile. "What about you? How have you been doing?"
Mai shrugs, sadness crossing her face as she rests her hands on her lap. "Bounced from owner to owner. None of them really ended well." She doesn't hide it when reaching for her missing leg.
I rest a hand on her shoulder. "You don't have to tell me anything. How's your stay here? Are you liking it?"
Mai heaves out a shaky breath. "It's been good. The brothers have been kind and have pampering me basically. I've treated like royalty since I've been here."
The brothers? Oh, yeah I almost forgot.
"Well, tell me about the brothers," I say. "How'd you get here?"
Mai thinks for a second. "I was brought into a small shop in the city after losing... you know, and I was stuffed in a cage again and I suffered for weeks. Then a new worker came in and saw the condition I was in. When I saw the look in his eyes, he knew I wouldn't last much longer if I stayed."
"What's he like?"
Mai smiles fondly. "He's nice."
I stare at the girl for a moment or two. She has this look of love in her eyes as she talks about this mysterious boy, but I have a good guess of who it is.
A soft knock at the door pulls our attention away from one another. The handle slowly turns and pops open. The door doesn't squeak when the person enters as quietly as possible.
It's Samantha. "Hey, just coming in to check on you guys." She says sweetly.
I look at Mai with a smile and turn back to my girlfriend. "We're doing good, Samantha."
Samantha smiles. "Oh, that's good."
Mai doesn't waste any more time and introduces herself. "Hi, Samantha, I'm Mai, though I'm sure Caesar has already told you about me."
Samantha comes in fully to take a seat at Bruce's desk. I keep a close eye on Mai as Samantha moves. She seems tense and somewhat nervous about Samantha. A good guess is because of her past, but I'm not going to question her about it. Not now.
"I've... I've heard some good things about you." Mai says hesitantly like she's unsure of herself like she's afraid.
"Oh, wow, I'm glad they're good things or else there'd be a serious punishment for her." Samantha jokes, but Mai doesn't catch onto it.
She looks at me with worrying eyes.
"Don't worry, she's only joking," I reassure her. It eases Mai for the time being.
Samantha leans in with her elbows on the table, a soft smirk on her face. "So what'd she tell you about me?"
Mai swallows hard. "She... uh... she said you were..."
Uh-oh. "Hey, Sam, can you give her some space. Mai is not used you yet." I say stepping in to save my friend.
"Oh, yeah, sure!" Samantha chirps backing up.
I look back at Mai, she eases up but not by much. I unknowingly let myself fall into deep thought. She still is terrified of Samantha. Not a fan of giantesses or maybe she's not a fan of Samantha for some reason. I don't blame her, Samantha can be intimidating if you don't know her well enough.
Instead of Samantha calling me out, she cups her hand around my body, her thumb resting on my shoulder. Like a cat, I press my cheek against the warm thumb before planting the world's smallest kiss on it.
"Daydreaming has to be your specialty." Samantha jokes.
"It's not." I retort.
From behind, Mai pipes up to poke fun at me. "No... I agree with Samantha on this one. You'd get lost in thought for long periods of time back when we were younger."
I turn back to face Mai. "Not you too!"
Samantha giggles. "It's two against one, Caesar. You lose."
We continue to make small talk. Mai seems to slowly warm up to Samantha, but she still keeps her distance and has her guard up around the giantess.
Then Ashley enters the room and Mai drops everything completely.
"It's nice to see you three getting along," Ashley smirks with her hand on her hip, leaning most of her weight on one leg.
I shrug and casually respond. "More or less."
Samantha playfully pushes me with a finger. "Unlike some people, I think we're doing great."
Ashley clicks her tongue. "Nice, I came in to ask if you guys would wanna get a bite or maybe some ice cream to celebrate."
My brows pinch together. "What are we celebrating?"
Ashley rolls her eyes like it's obvious. Well, obviously it's not! "Since you two finally got back together as best friends, Bruce and I thought about taking you guys out as a celebration!"
"Oh, I can get behind that," I say.
"I'm in too!" Samantha adds a friendly smile as she speaks. "What about you, Mai? Wanna get a treat?"
Mai is hesitant to answer Samantha again. "Uh..."
I walk up to the girl, wrap a comforting arm around her shoulders before whispering softly into her ear. "It's okay to say no, it's up to you."
Mai nods in understanding then voices her opinion. "I'm not big on leaving the house, but it's okay to try new things I guess."
"Sweet! I'll tell Bruce to get ready!" Ashley says excitedly before exiting the room.
Samantha hops up and follows her friend out, calling to her. "I'll drive."
You know, ice cream doesn't sound so bad right now. I think after finding Mai it's a good way to start off the weekend!
Author's Notes: Shout out to @MakeFluffNotVore for shouting me out. I don't know why, but I felt like returning the favor since I forgot to do it last chapter. Shout out to every who has stuck with this story. I thought it'd be shorter, but the creative gears were spinning too fast for me to stop them. I've also decided to create a mini-series about Mai. It's just her back story and it'll go into the girl more. Again, thanks guys for the awesome support.
