Chapter 193
Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen
193 The Golden Shawl
Selma Payneâs POV:
The unconscious team members were not seriously injured, only some superficial injuries and slight mental exhaustion. According to the recovery rate of werewolves, they would be fine after a good sleep.
I rejoiced at my bold actions, or else the casualties would have been immeasurable.
âThank you, Selma,â the leader, Master Mary, thanked me sincerely. âYou saved everyone. I apologize for my doubt in you.â
âDonât say that,â I said, waving my hand uncomfortably. I wouldnât have been able to do anything if everyone hadnât worked together to destroy the human shadows.
Master Hayley and Master Kevin, who were in charge of settling the wounded, had also come. They held a pile of unused history balls and carefully sealed them in an ice box temporarily made of spell and snow.
âActually, you donât have to be so careful with them,â I reminded. âAs long as you donât explicitly reveal that you want to damage it, the history balls are solid.â
Master Kevin disapproved, âThatâs true, but we still have to be as careful as possible before we study it carefully. However, since you created the history balls, can you tell us about their attributes? Anyone who damaged it would disappear like the human shadows? Where did the human shadows go? Are they trapped in a historical fragment, or does the historical fragment simply cancel them out?â
Master Hayley pulled him away helplessly and said apologetically, âIâm sorry, Kevin is just a nerd. Rest first. Weâll talk tomorrow.â
âIt doesnât matter. I donât care. Iâm not tired yet.â
Master Hayley smiled and left with Master Kevin, who was still full of questions.
âPlease donât mind him. Kevin may look unreasonable, but heâs very simple.â Master Mary led us to her temporary residence. âDue to his naivety, he suffered a lot. However, he doesnât mind and doesnât want to change himself. As long as he still has a passion for scientific research, heâs the happiest.â
I didnât understand why she and Master Hayley were so careful to persuade me about Master Kevin. I swear to the Moon Goddess that I didnât feel offended. It was just a few questions, what was the big deal?
âI donât think itâs a big deal. Iâm happy to answer these questions for you, Master Kevin. You donât have to be so nervous.â
Master Mary opened her mouth in embarrassment and said, âItâs my concern that made me confused because of...â
âWhat?â My curiosity was piqued.
âItâs just some old things. Thereâs nothing to be concerned about. Would you like a cup of peach tea? Even Hayley doesnât know my secret recipe.â
âThank you. Please give me a glass.â
Dorothy and I were drinking sweet fruit tea in Master Maryâs room when suddenly, a shawl embroidered with golden flower patterns came into my sight. It hung from a crooked hanger and dangled to the floor like a cloud of soft smoke. The golden thread shimmered with a soft luster under the light, making the pattern look like a newly bloomed flower.
âIs this yours? Itâs really nice.â I couldnât help but exclaim.
âNo.â Master Mary shook her head. âThis belongs to the owner of this house. Itâs been hanging here.â
I walked to the clothes rack and observed it. I felt that this gorgeous shawl looked a little familiar.
Where had I seen it before?
Just as I was deep in thought, Captain Frank arrived.
âAldrich will come up the mountain tomorrow.â He brought good news. âHe will come with a team of soldiers, which will be very helpful for our inch-by-inch search.â
Speaking of which, I didnât even think about Aldrich due to all the happenings here. He should have arrived today.
âWhat happened?â I voiced my doubts.
Frank expressed that he did not know either. He had only received notice of delays and did not have a specific reason.
Although it seemed like there was no problem, I still felt a little worried.
Late at night, I lay in my sleeping bag, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
âWhatâs wrong?â Dorothy asked.
âI feel something strange about Aldrichâs late arrival.â
âMaybe he was delayed by an extra mission? Heâs the general, so there should be a lot of things that he has to handle personally.â
âThatâs true, but Iâm still worried.â
âWhy donât we ask the King and the Queen?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âUse mind-link, just like you and I did.â
I fell silent.
It was a little secret that I didnât even tell Aldrich.
Dorothy noticed my silence and asked, âIs there a problem?â
I hesitated for a few seconds and felt there was no need to hide this from Dorothy. I didnât even need to hide it from Aldrich. I only felt inferior at first, but I forgot about it later.
âI canât build a mind-link with my parents,â I whispered. âIâve tried many times, but it didnât work.â
Dorothy was surprised. âWhy? Blood ties are the most natural bond.â
Yes, why? If I knew, I wouldnât be here worrying.
