Chapter 348
Alpha's Rejected Mate Returns as Queen
348 The Demonâs Visit
Selma Payneâs POV:
On a cool afternoon, I was leaning on Maxineâs back, drowsy as I faced the flowers.
Maxine had grown quite a bit. Although she had yet to grow into an awe-inspiring big wolf, her strong body was enough to intimidate people.
She was a lively and active girl, and the tiring daily training couldnât completely exhaust her excessive experience. Since I returned because of my pregnancy, she called herself my guard, always guarding me against anyone approaching.
âThose who donât know would think that this is your child,â I once joked.
âOf course heâs my child,â she replied confidently. âYou and I are the same person. Have you forgotten?â
Alright, she was right.
There were official matters in the military camp, so Aldrich had no choice but to leave my side temporarily. To be honest, I hoped he could leave for a while. Although it was a bit of a sc*mbag to say that, I really couldnât stand his constant clingy attitude.
âI want to drink mango juice,â I told Maxine. âAdd half a spoon of honey and three ice cubes.â
âNo ice,â Maxine rejected me without hesitation. âBesides, the servants are not far away. Why donât you ask them for it?â
I acted coquettishly. âI want to drink what you bring. Please, itâs super cool for a majestic wolf to carry a tray for you, okay?!â
Maxine loved being flattered, and after a short while, she felt like she was floating from my flattery. âY-you think so? Alright then, since youâre so sincere in begging me, Iâll reluctantly make a trip there... However, ice is out of the question. Flattering me wonât work. Tracy said that you canât consume raw or cold food, and I donât want to be strangled to death by Aldrich.â
I smiled as I watched her leave. I used the New Flow to create an enclosed space around me. Then, my expression turned cold as I said in a deep voice, âCome out, demon.â
âHehe.â
A feminine, alluring laugh rang out in my ears. I shivered and turned my hand to attack, but I grabbed nothing. The demon had already materialized in front of me.
The fishy smell on Leviathanâs body was still so strong that I, sensitive to smell because of my pregnancy, almost vomited.
My pale face made Leviathan laugh. She pretended to be sad and said, âWhy do you despise me so much every time? I wonât be coming next time if thatâs the case.â
âThatâs for the best,â I said coldly. âIf you have something to say, say it. Whatâs your purpose in sending your projection here?â
Yes, Leviathan, standing in front of me, was still just a projection.
âI heard that youâre going to have a baby soon. Iâm here to congratulate you.â Leviathan stared at my protruding belly and said happily, âThis is the descendant of a fallen goddess. Itâs impossible. Iâm here to see a miracle.â
âCan you leave now that youâre done?â
âDonât be so cold. Donât werewolves have any manners?â
âWerewolves donât welcome evil guests like you.â
âAlright,â she said. Leviathan pouted. To be honest, seeing an old lady who was tens of thousands of years old in a young girlâs leather suit was disgusting. âBut I also brought you a gift. Donât you want it at all?â
I immediately became alert. What normal things could a demon have brought?
New Flow silently wrapped Leviathanâs projection in its arms, but the latter did not care and chuckled as if she did not notice it. âI heard you got a few beautiful capes from the Rocky Mountains. I like pretty accessories, too. Can I look at them?â
I stared at her coldly and didnât reply.
âAlright, youâre so petty. This is my gift to you, but itâs an antique. Do you like it?â Leviathan mumbled as she took a stone slab from her chest and threw it on the ground. It doesnât matter if you donât like it. Iâll give it to you anyway.â
I was on guard and didnât touch the slate. The projection of Leviathan started to crack.
âTimeâs up. Please bring me an even more interesting play the next time we meet!â
She waved at me and laughed evilly before she disappeared.
After making sure she had left, I immediately relaxed my back, which was covered in a cold sweat. I wrapped the stone slab on the grass with New Flow and asked my parents and the grandmasters to come.
Maxine returned with mango juice and some other snacks. When she saw that I was drenched in a cold sweat, she immediately ignored the tray on her back and ran to my side. She anxiously asked, âHow are you, Selma? Are you feeling uncomfortable? Does your stomach hurt? Are you going to give birth?â
I patted her head to comfort her. âNo, itâs just that Leviathan dropped by just now. Iâm a little tense.â
âLeviathan?â Maxine jumped up and immediately understood why I had asked her to get the juice. âYou shouldnât have faced her alone! This is too dangerous!â
âItâs just a projection. It wonât cause any harm. Besides, against a supreme demon, thereâs no difference whether we have one more or one less person.â
I leaned on her tiredly and observed the stone slab wrapped in layers of New Flow.
I kept feeling like Iâd seen this thing somewhere before. After thinking about it carefully, I realized that this was the ancient stone slab I found at Mullwicaâs house. The thirteen flower patterns on it were the same as the uncomfortable pattern in the center!
