Chapter 23

Mission Take the video

TEGA

It's a Saturday and Kemi's already at my place. He agreed to help me take a video of Aunty Enita when we see her doing anything unpleasant or alarming to mum.

"Kemi, what should we call our mission?". I asked.

"Why do we need a name? that's not important". He said.

"Well, I just want a name". I pouted. I saw him roll his eyes with the side of my eye.

"Fine, how about, umm, mission get rid of Tega's Aunty" He said.

"No, that's too long".

"Ok, mmm, mission Aunty Enita's no more?"

"No! That's like saying she's dead!" I shouted.

"Okay, I know I've only come up with two so far but I give up. What have you got?" He asked.

"Hmm". I thought for a minute and finally spoke up. "Take the video!" I said, smiling proudly.

"Nooo! That's really bad! Bad name!".

"Whatever, we're going with it".

"So do you have your phone with you?". I asked him. He knows I don't have a phone so he probably brought his.

"Uuh, no. Weren't you listening when I told you my Dad refused to let me bring it with me on the way to your house?". I lauged nervously at his question, scratching the back of my neck.

He did tell me but I wasn't paying much attention. I was writing a song that day he told me about his phone and I gave him my divided attention.

He slapped his palm on his forehead and sighed "You weren't paying attention, were you?". He asked, raising an eyebrow. I moved my head side ways.

"Okay, so what are we gonna use now?". I whined.

"Do you have any cameras?". He asked.

"No, but we could use my mum's phone". I said.

"Are you sure she'll let us use it?". He asked.

"Of course, she's my mum". I smiled.

I went up to my mum who was at the first guest room and told Kemi not to come with me. She was doing something which looked alot like a martial art. It was a terrible site to behold.

My mum is in her late forties but anyone who sees her would think she's in her early thirties; She is light skinned and has dark brown eyes which could easily potray her emotions. Her height with her slim nature adds to her young look. She has stamina and energy but fighting is not her thing.

"Mummy, what are you doing?" I asked trying not to run out of the room. Thank goodness Kemi wasn't there, I do not want to imagine his reaction.

"Oh honey, I'm learning Karate. I heard it's a very popular skill for defense. As a woman I feel the need to learn this". She said focusing on the Karate tutorial video she was watching on her iPad.

"Oh mum, no. Karate isn't for everyone. You're not, umm..". I tried to find the right words to put into my sentence so as not to offend her when I caught her gaze. She glared at me angrily as if aware of what I was thinking.

"I'm doing Karate dear, deal with it". She said sweetly.

"Okay, Mum please can you lend me your phone?". I pleaded.

"Yeah, it's on the table in the living room". She said, eyes glued to her iPad

"Thanks". I giggled, running to the living room to grab mum's phone.

Kemi and I put the phone in camera three hours ago waiting to hear arguing. There was nothing. We eventually got bored and fell asleep. I was sleeping when I heard someone call my name.

"Tega". It came out soft and sounded alot like an echoe.

"Tega". I heard the echoe again but this time, louder and closer.

"Tega!". It didn't sound like an echoe anymore. I felt something wet in my ear and the voice screamed my name the fourth time.

OMG!!

I screamed in horror. I finally woke up and saw Kemi staring at me.

"Did you just give me a wet willy?" I asked as I felt my ear.

"Yeah". He said laughing heartily.

"Why'd you wake me up?".

"I heard someone's muffled scream. It sounded close". I ran to my mother's room to check if she was still there. It was empty.

I and Kemi searched everywhere. The how was completely empty, leaving Kemi, Enohor and I as the only ones at home.

"No, no, no, no, no, where's my mum and Aunty Enita?"

"Mummy!!" I heard Enohor call.

"Why are you looking for mum?" I asked her as I walked up to her.

"I'm hungry". She frowned rubbing her stomach.

"Mr. Belly's hungry too". She said, forming a really bad deep voice while folding her stomach and moving it up and down.

"We'll go look for her". I said, dragging Kemi along with me.

"Let's check the back yard". I said to him.

We ran to the backyard where I saw my mum, my Aunty and a man with a scar I had never seen before.

I opened my mother's phone and gave it to Kemi to video as we watched silently. My heart pounding.

"Shut up, look, I love my brother and your kids but you have to go. Ever since you came into this family my brother didn't care for me anymore. To be honest, I just hate you. My brother doesn't deserve you, I could've found a better woman for him, one I could manipulate with ease but you. You're nothing but a bag of salt blocking my to victory" Aunty Enita said.

I couldn't help but gush out tears. This was the woman I once loved. Does she even love her brother?

"Kemi, I have to do something, what if she hurts my mum". I cried.

"Uuuh...". He said looking around and trying to figure out what to do.

"I'll call my Dad first". I said. I hurriedly went into the house to call my dad.

"Daddy, there's trouble at home, it's an emergency. Please come quick". I said, my voice shaking.

I ran upstairs to my room looking through my things and trying to see if I could find anything I could use for defense. I couldn't find a single thing.

I ran outside the house and found a big rock. I picked it up and decided to use it anyway.

With the big rock in my hand, I ran back to meet Kemi who stood frozen. He was staring at something.

I tried to locate where he was staring at when my gaze fell on a body lying in a pool of blood.

"ENOHOR!!!". I shouted as I ran towards her.

Aunty Enita who had been busy putting a gag on the mouth of my mother and tightening the rope she tied round her body stopped and stared at me in confusion and surprise.

I grabbed Enohor's body not minding the blood stains on my cloth. I laid my head gently on her chest.

"She's still alive. H-her heart is still beating". I yelled at my mother who was crying bitterly trying to free herself. Kemi ran towards me.

"Let me carry her. Is there a nearby hospital in your area?" He asked.

"Yes! Let's go". I said.

"You're not going anywhere Tega and her friend". Aunty Enita said, blocking our path.

"How long have you been here?" She asked.

I ignored her foolish question and followed Kemi, who carried Enohor as I fought back tears. Suddenly, someone grabbed me from behind.

"Let me go!!". I yelled. "My sister needs to live!!". I shouted crying more than ever and staring at Enohor. Kemi tried to make a run for it but got caught by another man.

I thought there was only one?

Enohor's body fell on the floor.

"Nooo!". I screamed in horror.

Few seconds later, I heard a person's footsteps. My father came out of the shadows, panicking. He stared at all of us in shock.

Aunty Enita ran away, while the two men she was with jumped over the fence.

What was happening?

I ran to Enohor while Kemi untied my mother.

"Enohor!". I called her name once more as more tears gushed out of my eyes. I gently lay my head on her chest once again to hear her heartbeat.

Panic hit me.

"Daddy, I can't hear her heartbeat. Why can't I hear her heartbeat?!" I shouted, feeling scared.

My parents ran towards Enohor, my mum crying. She touched her arm and screamed. My father stood up and shook his head.

"W-what is happening? Mummy please stop screaming, you're making me scared. Daddy why are you shaking your head?". I was so confused.

Enohor isn't dead. I just know it, she's still alive.

My father pulled me away from Enohor and spoke.

"Otega, your sister is gone. She is dead".
