~Chapter 14: Karma is a Harsh Mistress

Karta's POV

Ever since that damn incubus went and stole my latest money maker he revealed my operation to the coven and had me excommunicated. I never really believed in the mate crap, I just saw it as an easy way to make money. It worked, 17 foolish "mates" have been sold by me. There are a lot of wealthy men in the world who just want a breeder. Whatever. What they do with them after they handed over the money I didn't care. Anyway with me being excommunicated means I can't talk to any vampires that are above junior class which sucks to say the least. It also means I don't have access to any vampire luxuries like blood banks. So I have to get blood on my own. Some might think I deserve it but it's not my fault humans are so stupid they can't tell when someone isn't their mate. Anyway now I'm sitting in the park at night waiting for some poor idiotic human to pass by.

Fortunately I don't have to worry about the mate thing, Mine killed himself 16 years ago after he found out I was a vampire. Second Chance mates are rare so going to that festival is like easy pickings for me each year.

Just as I was about to give up and go to bed without a meal again I see a man walking his dog. I watched as he allowed his dog more leeway with the leash and stuck up behind him. He seemed my height. I approached him and took out his knee; while he was shocked I lowered my fangs to his neck and bit in slightly before I was thrown off. I saw the man grasp his neck and run off with his dog.

I clicked my tongue; so close. I looked up to see another man and I was shocked to see that he was even taller than me....probably even 7ft.

"Don't you know it's illegal to attack humans damn vampire" he bellowed at me.

"Who cares I would have compelled him to forget" I shrugged him off and passed him.

"I don't have time to play with dogs anyway" I sighed. A werewolf was annoying enough but a do-gooder werewolf was horrible.

He growled and grabbed my arm and it wasn't until I felt the spark that I stopped.

"Tell me your name vampire" he demanded as he held my arm in his grasp.

"Let go dog" I demanded but he just growled louder and strengthened his hold on me so tight that I thought he fractured my arm.

"Karta! Now let go before you break my arm" I yelled but he just ignored me and yanked me towards him.

"You're coming with me; vampire or not you're mine." He announced.

"You're dreaming dog now let go of me!"

Then I felt my arm snap and all that was heard was my piercing scream as he dragged me away towards his pack.
