~Chapter 20: Old Ties

Third Person POV

"Stop sulking! It's been 3 months, get over it!" Karta's yelling was heard throughout the halls of the Natural Maternity Center. Species of all kinds gathered here for the best possible care of their unborn children.

"Now now. You mustn't yell, you'll stress your body" Rielle sighed and glanced at Haidel. Ever since Karta's first heat he's been distant. Not good for a pregnant mate.

"Forget yelling! He won't even talk to me. What's the point of a ghost like him coming anyway?"

"It'll raise questions if the father of the child isn't here" Rielle said simply. Hopefully this brooding her brother was doing would end soon. She opened the door to the doctors office and wasn't surprised to see many parents waiting to be seen. After all she booked the best. "Ah!" They heard a yell and quickly turned their heads to a little red headed man pointing their way. "Geh" Karta muttered under his breath.

"You! Mate Trafficker!" The man next to him yelled.

Immediately everyone clenched onto their mate tighter, "you're here to steal Reese aren't you?!"

"I presume your last victim?" Rielle inquired.

"Does he even count as a victim if he got away?" Karta sighed, "I'm not after your mate Vimen, I've got more pressing things to worry about".

"Like what? Finding your next victim? Is that why you're here ?" Vimen seethed.

"Why I'm here is none of your business demon!" Karta yelled, his emotions feeling more heighten than usual he couldn't keep his temper in check.

Haidel stepped between Karta and Vimen, "May I ask you to keep your voice down? My mate is with child and I'd appreciate you not stress him or our child out" everyone's face after that was priceless. Pure shock written on everyone's expression. Karta face palmed and shook his head.

"You weren't a breeder?" Vimen inquired.

"No and I hid it pretty well until this idiot"

Vimen continued to glare at Karta, "you should burn in hell for all that you've done, If the leader of the coven didn't pay off the victims I would've had you executed".

Karta looked at him with wide eyes, "what are you talking about? There's no way he would".

"5 million to each victim, equalling about a billion dollars your father put out to keep your head attached to your body"

"You're lying there's no way Michele would do something like that" Karta dismissed him.

"Reese and Vimen; Dr. Mena will see you now" a nurse announced and Karta felt relieved, "thank heavens they're gone"

Karta sat down and tried to calm himself but he couldn't shake the uneasiness he felt from what Vimen said. He hadn't seen Michele in years and there's no way he would spend so much on a random kid that was sold to him by his mother. He shook his head. "Don't let a demon get into your head" Haidel whispered into his ear.

Karta felt a shock wash over him and his face turned red. "I know that much" he said waving him away.

After waiting a while Karta was called into the back.

"Hello my name is Doctor Heavin Chan. I'm just going to ask a few questions while I set up the ultrasound"

They all nodded as the doctor positioned Karta, "What species are mom and dad"

"I'm human and he's a dog" Karta said pointing to himself and then at Haidel. The doctor chuckled, "when was your last heat?"

"Last month" Karta answered curtly.

"Hm okay" the doctor smiled as she lifted up Karta's shirt and squeezed the ultrasound gel on him.

"I'd like to do some blood tests, and perhaps a Genetic test if you'd like" Karta nodded.

"Anything is fine".

After a moment of silence Karta looked questioningly at the doctor. She was staring at the screen intensely, "are you sure you're just human Karta?" She asked.

Karta looked at her, "as far as I know; I only knew my mother so"

"Okay" she smiled, "looks like you're having twins".

Karta grumbled, he wasn't surprised but he wasn't ecstatic. After finishing the ultrasound, the doctor took 5 vials of blood.

After Karta, Haidel and Rielle left; doctor Chan called someone, "you were right, he's not human. He never was".
