Chance, who was suddenly called out, was a little nervous and frightened that his face turned pale.

“Daddy, I haven’t had time to read it yet.”

Eric frowned. His eyes suddenly darkened.

“Did you just wake up? I’ve finished two meetings, but you’ve slept until now?”

Chance’s face was red from shame, and he pursed his lips nervously.

“I’m sorry, Daddy. I slept too late last night.”

“Are you blaming me for giving you too much homework that you can’t sleep at night?”

Eric interrupted Chance in a cold voice.

There was complete silence in the office.

It felt cold and serious.

Selena listened with trepidation.

She felt sorry for Chance. Would Chance turn out to be a psycho like Eric if he grew up in such a

depressing environment?

Selena could not imagine Chance, who looked very much like Eric, calling her “Auntie” with a cold face

in a few years.

It was a scary sight.

Selena coughed to interrupt the dead silence.

“Eric, children his age need enough sleep to grow. You can’t let him have less sleep just because you

don’t want to sleep! This is a serious issue that you shouldn’t be proud of! If he sleeps late, it’s normal

for him to get up late. Don’t you ever sleep in once in a while?”

Her tone was a little harsh because she could not understand Eric’s “abusive” behavior toward Chance.

She was not trying to meddle in his family’s affairs.

Chance looked at Selena in shock and gratitude.

His heart was really sore.

He really liked Selena, but his father told him that affection would only degrade one’s sensitivity and

make one stupid and clumsy.

Eric would stop Chance if he played the Rubik’s Cube that Selena gave him for more than a few

minutes.

Therefore, Chance dared not say that he liked Selena.

Eric scolded her along with Chance.

Selena was so angry that she did not want to talk to him anymore.

The rage in her heart was rekindled in an instant. She gritted her teeth and spoke with a glum face.

“Yes, you’re the most amazing person ever. Will you be able to live a few years longer than us

peasants? The taxes you contributed also supported people like us, so technically, you’re just working

so hard for us! Mr. Ferguson, don’t slack off because we all depend on hardworking people like you,

who wake up earlier than chickens and sleep later than dogs! Working six days a week can’t even

satisfy your workaholic habits!”

Eric’s face gradually became gloomy.

He knew that Selena would not comfort him because of his struggles.

Hah! What a dull woman!

Eric took a deep breath and held back his anger.

He had to stay calm.

He turned to look at them, narrowed his eyes, and sneered.

“So, Ms. Nelson, you still haven’t given up on being Chance’s stepmother?”

He tapped his fingers on the table playfully, as if he was deliberately pulling the topic in this direction.

If Selena gave up on him, why would she still protect Chance?

She just wanted to win Chance’s heart, right?

Eric would be a fool if he could not see through her tricks.

When Selena heard this, she quickly jumped up and proved her innocence.

“Are you crazy?! How can you say this in front of a child?”

She wanted to cover Chance’s ears, but Chance dodge her and actually took a step back.

Chance looked at Selena intently and seriously, with somewhat complicated emotions.

“Bullsh*t! Who in their right mind will want you?! I was just joking last time, but you took it seriously?

Also, why did you ask Mitchell to look for me? If you lost something, you can call the police. I have a

clear conscience, so don’t you dare slander and frame me!”

At the mention of this, Selena picked up the shirt she had thrown on the ground and hurled it at Eric

angrily.

Eric dodged, and his shirt fell on the ground beside him.

He did not even look at it, but there was a slight smile on his face. He seemed to be in a good mood.

“Oh, were you just joking? It’s been so long, yet you still kept my shirt. Why? Are you keeping it as a

souvenir?”

Selena did not throw his shirt away, so this explained something.

Eric inexplicably felt better because of this.

Selena was infuriated.

She pointed at him and gnashed her teeth.

“What makes you so confident? It’s just a stupid shirt! I just forgot about it. Why the hell would I keep it

as a souvenir? Is it because it’s so dirty that I can’t even bear to look at it? Didn’t you notice that I didn’t

even bother to wash it? That’s because I feel like it’s a waste of money to send it to dry cleaning!”

Selena felt like she was winning in the yelling match.

Eric just slightly raised his eyebrows.

“Who knows what kind of weird hobbies you have? You’ve been coveting me for so long, so it makes

sense for you to collect my items.”

Selena felt like she was struck by lightning.

For the first time, Selena felt that a ruined shirt could become a problem.

She should have asked him to take this shirt with him back then.

Selena was so angry that she was trembling and speechless.

She could not win because of his thick skin.

She took several deep breaths to calm herself.

At last, she stretched out her hand to interrupt him and looked at him expressionlessly. Her eyes were

a bit indifferent and mocking.

“Fine. If you want to think that way, I can’t help it. I just want to know about your lost card that was

supposedly in your shirt. What card is it, and how much is it worth?”

Selena looked at him coldly and did not want to say anything more.

This was the ultimate purpose of her coming here.

She finally understood that this conceited man would only think that she was interested in him if she

continued talking to him.

Her reputation was ruined, so there was no point in trying to prove her innocence anymore.

Eric looked at her silently.

They were in a stalemate again.

Eric simply made an excuse that he left a card inside that shirt.

He was afraid that things would get out of hand, so he did not say that it was a bank card.

Otherwise, it would be troublesome if the police were involved.

Eric was just confused because this woman said that she liked him before, so why had she not

approached him during this period of time?

Was she playing hard to get?
