Chapter 2538 Why Don’t You Look?

Selena looked at Eric’s smiling face. His eyes were still stern and indifferent. He seemed so aloof and

unapproachable, as if she would never attain his heart.

Eric’s words seemed gentle like he did not blame her, but it felt as if he had slapped her hard in the

face.

Her face felt hot, and she felt like her darkest secret was exposed.

Selena was stunned for a few seconds. She stood up abruptly, took two steps forward, calmed down,

and looked back at him.

She said in a clear and cold tone, “You don’t need to put it so nicely. You’re just trying to say that I

overstepped my bounds, right? I have already apologized and promised not to do it again. Why do you

still want to insult me?”

Eric’s expression turned glum. His eyes also dimmed slightly.

“I didn’t mean to insult you. I was just talking to you. Don’t overthink it.”

“Any normal person would misunderstand the way you put it. Eric, I did read your message, but so

what? Are you saying there’s some kind of confidential work in your conversation? If so, why did you

show it to me just now? If not, why can’t I read it? I know we can’t get married, but don’t I have the

normal rights of a girlfriend? Or is your girlfriend now Ms. Caldwell, but I’m somehow unaware of it?”

Selena took a deep breath. She finally lashed out all her pent-up frustration.

She was not one to endure grievances.

If they were happy, they could stay together. If not, they would break up.

Having such a messy relationship would just make her unhappy.

There was a dead silence in the room for a moment.

Eric’s forbearing expression became calm and cold.

He stared at her with an indistinct emotion. However, his lips were tightly pursed, which showed his

current mood.

He was silent and cold.

Eric watched Selena vent. Then, he sat up, raised his chin slightly, and met her gaze.

“I’ve already explained why we can’t get married and what happened with Taylor. Why do you still want

to bring up the past? Are you not satisfied with my explanation? If so, why didn’t you bring it up at that

time? Instead, you’re trying to settle accounts now? I don’t understand, Selena. You’re obviously not

such a suspicious and calculating person. Why did you become like this? The information on my phone

is confidential. Even Mitchell isn’t privy to that information. Why are you threatening me with our

relationship? Why do you need evidence of my loyalty to you? I always thought that we can trust each

other and that we don’t need to use this way to prove each other’s sincerity.”

When Eric was talking, he tried his best to calm himself and communicated his thoughts rationally.

He would never blindly tolerate a woman hurting his career.

Selena could do nothing or have her own hobbies, but that was only if she did not harm the interests of

Ferguson Corporation.

Otherwise, the nature of their relationship would change.

Sooner or later, Eric would have to say these words to Selena. Since she mentioned it now, Eric

thought to just explain it clearly.

Both of them fell silent.

There was dead silence, and the room felt icy.

They were estranged from each other.

Selena suddenly sneered and broke the silence.

She took a deep breath. The stuffiness in her chest dissipated. She glanced at Eric lightly and said,

“Am I suspicious and calculating? If you have such a clear conscience, why did you explain to me

about your relationship with Ms. Caldwell? Why were you afraid that I’ll read your messages? You’re

obviously guilty of something, Eric. Stop flaunting how infatuated and loyal you are to me! These two

adjectives have nothing to do with you!”

“Selena, that’s enough!”

Eric suddenly stood up. His face became extremely gloomy.

“How big of a fuss do you want to kick up? Can’t I just communicate with a normal person? Selena,

since when did you become like this? How else can I explain for you to believe me?”

Selena suddenly choked. Her chest felt tight and painful.

Eric already made his judgment about her, so how could she refute?

Was it just because she was caught looking at his phone?

Selena thought it was ridiculous and laughed out loud.

“Don’t you know what I’m like? I’m always like this. If you don’t want to see me, you can leave. I won’t

change myself for anyone. I’m a great person. You’re the one with the problem, Eric. Since you refused

to marry me, I’ve already given up on the idea. You accepted the rumors saying that you married

Taylor. Even if you’ve explained it to me, it doesn’t mean that you’re innocent. That’s because in your

heart, you think that only someone like Taylor is worthy of you. I’m a nobody to you, so if news of us

dating got out, it’ll only lower Ferguson Corporation’s stock price. Am I right?”

Selena said it in one go and spoke every word clearly.

Eric felt like a nail had pierced into his heart.

His face was livid and pale, and he glared at her.

Selena did not give him a chance to refute and said her inner thoughts.

“Admit it, Eric. You’re a petty person who looks down on the poor. You did the same to Nicole back then

when she concealed her identity to marry you. You ignored her and showed no emotion. After she

divorced you and regained her identity, you suddenly think that you love her deeply. Don’t you think

you’re ridiculous? Do you think I hold a grudge for not being able to marry you? Of course not! I won’t

forget who I am just because I like you, let alone compromise my dignity. Do you think I’m jealous of

the scandal between you and Taylor? No, I just find it ridiculous. I’m just curious what you said to that

woman. She hasn’t mentioned a marriage alliance with you yet, so you can have a clear conscience.

Once your marriage involves the interests of Ferguson Corporation, you will probably hesitate for a few

days before you agree to it, right?”

Selena’s face was indifferent and bright. Her eyes were ferocious.

However, she was calm and extremely cold.

Two emotions seemed to tear her apart.

There was a sense of energy coming from her that made Eric feel like she was not her usual self.

She tasted the sweetness of love, but she also experienced the bitterness.
