Chapter 52 - Just Get Divorced Already!
The Mafia's Crybaby Wife
Trying to put everything behind her, Lu Anâan put on her best act, pretending she just happened to have the time to visit Li Lihua.
And it took Li Lihua by surprise. She was happy to see her daughter, and she smiled. âWhy are you here so late?â
âI miss you, so I came.â It was an excuse Lu Anâan made up, and she started talking about school, distracting Li Lihua.
Yan Yunge wasnât used to sleeping in another bed, not to mention sleeping in a sitting position. He woke up too soon after his nap.
He moved his wheelchair to check in on Yan Yinlan, who was still deep in slumber, and his temperature had gone down. After paging a nurse to take care of Yan Yinlan, he went out to look for Lu Anâan. Despite not knowing where she was, he used his connection and shortly discovered she was in another ward, and his brows furrowed. He had never heard of her talking about any family or friends.
Though Li Lihua adored Lu Anâan, she was still sharp. Severely ill, the hospital bills must have cost tons. She had always thought her husband had borrowed that money, but after talking to him, it was only then she realized Lu Anâan was paying for it. She didnât know how to bring that up since. Now that her condition was stable, she couldnât wait any further.
âTell me the truth, Anâan. From where did the money for my hospital bills come?â Li Lihuaâs eyes turned red as she spoke. It was such a large sum, and she started worrying if Lu Anâan had gone down the wrong path.
âI-Itâs from my part-time job. And I borrowed some of them from a, uh, rich friend of mine.â Lu Anâan wasnât expecting that question, and she stuttered a little, not knowing how she should answer.
âNo need to lie,â Li Lihua interrupted, âI can take it. Just tell me everything.â
âMom...â Lu Anâan panicked. She couldnât come clean.
âIf you wonât tell me, Iâm giving up on treatment. Iâm the patient, so I do have the right, donât I?â Li Lihuaâs tone got stern. The more Lu Anâan tried to stall, the more suspicious it was.
And that was the final straw. âI got married.â
Confusion flashed across Li Lihuaâs face, and she couldnât draw a connection between that and the money. Still, she was frustrated. âYou got married? This young?â
âI got married because Gu Anning didnât want to marry her fiancé.â Lu Anâan took a deep breath. âSo I took her place instead. And as part of the conditions of the marriage, I got the money for your hospital bills.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Li Lihuaâs heart sank. She couldnât believe what she had just heard. What a failure she was, letting her daughter marry a man she didnât love only to afford her hospital treatment!
Yet, Lu Anâan didnât notice the shift in her emotions, and she continued, âI know it sounds absurd, but heâs a great husband to me. After all this time together, we realize we have feelings for each...â
âGet a divorce.â It was a rash decision made for the sake of her illness. How could Li Lihua even trust if Lu Anâan was telling the truth?
Her take on that matter left Lu Anâan stunned. She almost yelled, âMom, we do love each other. Youâre only breaking us apart!â
âBreaking you apart?â Li Lihua squeezed her eyes shut. âNothingâs right from the beginning of your marriage, and itâs not too late to start over. Donât make this harder for me, Anâan.â
