Colours
We're Broken People
Red
The colour that stained her hands
The colour that tainted her fair skin
Red
It was the colour that would always
Always follow her
The colour that wouldn't wash off
No matter how hard
Or how long she scrubbed at her hands
Red
It was the colour she walked in
It was the colour of her footprints
It was the colour of blood
Blue
It was the colour of her eyes
Shining
Two diamonds that sparkled so brilliantly
Blue
It was the colour many saw
Before they fell
At her hands
Blue
Once so calm and bright
Now dull with death and chaos
It was her fate
And her duty
To take
And to take
And never give
Those hands
Forever a shade of crimson
That would never fade
She could see it even now
Even when her hands ran under the water
That they were red
A colour she knew was there
Even when she couldn't see it
Those blue eyes
Could they have burned differently in another life?
Could they have shined brighter than the stars, if this was not her fate?
But they were dead now
Dull
Emotionless
Empty
No one could save her now
Red
Dripping down her wrists
Tracing the lines of her palms
Pooling at her shoes
Blue
Staring up at the sky
A blank void
She carried the weight of a thousand lives
And maybe more
"I set you free"
She whispered
And they spiralled into the air
Carried by the wind
Into the heavens
Her hands were red
Still red
Always red
But maybe there was a way
Salvation
For her
To stop the droplets of red
From falling again
