Chapter One Hundred Seventy One
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
Hello everyone thank your for being so patient with me for this chapter. I was supposed to upload it a few days ago but got distracted by Hozier dropping his new album.Honestly it's the album of the year but anyway. I hope you enjoy this chapter and thanks for still being here reading after so long. ð©·ð©·
We arrived in my home town with no issue. We were currently walking down the busy street looking for something to eat after the long train ride. They had food on the train but we just decided to indulge in the snacks and get something after. We both regretted it when our stomachs started to growl.
Ba Wei was looking on his phone for a place that had takeout and I was booking a cab to my fathers penthouse. I should probably call him, but I'm sure he knew I was on the way.
"Found a place yet?"
"No, not one with actually good food." He sighed, "do you just want to get something when we get to your dads house?"
"How about I make something then. What do you want?"
He stopped walking, "let's focus on getting there so I have time to decide."
I just laughed and nodded. We stopped walking in front of a little coffee shop as we waited for the taxi. We talked about light hearted things and I was in the middle of teasing Ba Wei about the tan lines on his arms when it pulled up.
"Get in the car, and stop making me upset."
I laughed and climbed in, "didn't know you were so sensitive."
"Don't push your luck."
He climbed in and I immediately put my hand on his upper thigh. I squeezed a bit as a form of apology and he smirked. I couldn't help the smile that was already across my face. At least I knew he accepted my apology.
"Your tan lines look good on you," I said with a small chuckle.
He turned to me and it looked like he was about to say something but he didn't. I shook my head and just looked out the window. I watched as the city streets passed by. I remember walking these streets with Cheng De. Laughing, enjoying life I guess I should say. Him being dead solved the major problem that I was afraid of, but then again I never wanted him dead.
"Hey, why are you slowing down," Ba Wei asked pulling my attention?
"There's a road block up ahead."
"Why would there be a road block," I asked looking at Ba Wei?
When I asked that question my heart dropped. I quickly climbed out of the car and looked ahead to see exactly what was going on. Not too far away I saw cop cars, and a whole lot of them.
I bent down in the car, "let's just walk from here."
Ba Wei nodded and I closed the door and he followed not soon after. We walked over to the side walk and not skipping a beat I pulled out my phone and pressed my fathers number. It rung but no one answered so I tried again, this time he answered.
"Dad, what's going on at your hotel? There's cops everywhere?"
There was a silence and then a voice I never heard before began to speak, "this is Detective Bai Yi. May I ask who this is?"
I stopped walking almost immediately, "why do you have my dads phone?"
"Please identify yourself by name."
I didn't say anything and just hung up the phone. I glanced over at Ba Wei to see him looking worried.
"Ba Wei..."
"I know. Let's hurry and get there."
I nodded and began to run. We pushed through people as we went, and soon we came to police tape. Breathing hard I looked around to see reporters. There were so many cops that I knew I wouldn't be able to slip in.
"Excuse me," I yelled. A cop turned around and walked over to me. "What's going on? Is anyone hurt?"
"I cannot discuss that. Please stay back."
He began to walk away and I yelled, "is my father inside. His name is Ji GuanTing
The officer stopped and glanced back at me and then continued walking.
"Please give me a answer!"
I looked at Ba Wei with pleading eyes, and I knew from the look on his face that he couldn't do anything. I pulled out my phone and called my father again. A cell phone began to ring in the crowd of medical personnel.
"Look, can you tell me what's going on, and why you have my fathers phone? Is he okay? Just give me any information or your entire precinct will hate my name."
"Why don't you calm down a bit sir," a guy said as he walked out of the crowd.
"Don't tell me-"
"Listen, I'm going to assume that you're the estranged son of Ji Guanting?"
I raised a eyebrow but then noticed my fathers cell phone in his hand. I relaxed a bit, but still kept a firm tone.
"I'm his son. Yes."
He lifted the yellow tape, "do not touch anything. I'm only letting you past this because of your money."
"Where's my father."
"I was hoping you could tell me."
"Wait he's missing," Ba Wei asked?
"You could say that. I would use the word on the run more of."
I cocked a eyebrow, "are you implying that my father has did something illegal."
"We're not here for no reason."
I stared at the cop for a second, " if you want to treat him like he's a criminal call his legal team."
I turned around to leave and Ba Wei followed me. I didn't know what was going on but how the cop was talking he wasn't going to be looking for my father who obviously needed help.
"Call your father and ask him what the hell is going on."
He didn't say a word and just pulled out his phone. I was relieved that my father wasn't hurt or anything, but there was the issue of him being missing. From what I could see from looking around there were bodies at that hotel and they seemed to think my father was involved. How pathetic.
"He wants to talk to you," Ba Wei said as he handed me the phone.
"Hello."
"Your father is currently under my watchful eye in one of our safe houses."
"Good. Now why are there bodies at his hotel?"
"We were trying to inform both of you of the situation but Ba Wei didn't answer his phone. Anyway, my men handled the people who are currently dead. They're the only reason your father is still breathing."
"Thank you. If you can do me a favor."
"What is it?"
"Clean up your mess."
"This is the first time you've spoke to me in such a tone."
"Also, one more thing."
"Yes?"
"Locate my mom."
"Consider it done, but Ji nan this will come with a consequence."
"I know."
I didn't give him time to say anything else and hung up the phone. I handed it back to Ba Wei and sighed.
"Is everything okay," he asked as he grabbed my hand.
"I don't even know. My fathers safe, but I still have a bad feeling."
He intertwined our fingers, "I might be able to convince my father to tell me which safe house your fathers in. At least then you could be at ease."
"That would be amazing. I don't want you to have to repay him for that though," I said with a frown.
"It's fine. He'll probably make me fight someone for his amusement. I hope he picks Kang Wu this time," he said with a laugh.
I just smiled and let my mind wonder. I couldn't help but wonder what my mother had planned. It was the first time I had heard her use such a tone with me. She had always spoke with a soft voice around me, but now I see why my father speaks so ill of her. She was still seeing my fathers best friend. I wonder if that man was involved in what she was planning. Sure, he cut her out of his life, but what did she expect. My head was starting to hurt thinking about it.
"Hey," Ba Wei called.
"Hmm?"
"You okay? I called out to you multiple times."
"Yeah I'm okay. I'm just stressed."
He stopped walking, "then you're not fine. Lets get a hotel room for tonight so you can relax."
I smirked, "I don't think relaxing is what I want to do right now."
He pulled me towards him, "I'm not talking about that. Don't say such naughty things in public."
I let out a full laugh and started to walk again, "Come on. Lets just book the same room as last time."
---
We had just walked into the room when Ba Wei got a phone call. He put it on speaker to my surprise and Kang Wus voice echoed through the room.
"Is this my brother or is it his little lover boy?"
"You're such a ass Kang Wu," Ba Wei said chuckling.
"It is my personality remember."
"Why are you calling?"
"Ah yeah, father declined to tell you which safe house his fathers in. He's concerned that someone will follow you there. He also said he's found his mom. He said that she was close by his fathers hotel."
"Is that all?"
"Also make sure to keep a low profile there. Father is traveling there tomorrow. He thinks that with everything going on it's best if he be in the same city."
"That's surprising. He never comes out. He doesn't usually care if I'm in danger."
"He feels things might take a turn, and plus he wants to talk to your little boy too." He was silent for second, "be honest, how tight is-"
"Hey, he can you hear you," Ba Wei said cutting him off.
I couldn't help but laugh and Kang Wu said nothing and just ended the call not soon after. Ba Wei ran a hand through his hair.
"Does he ask questions like that often," I said walking up to him?
"You'd be surprised how often he asks me inappropriate questions about your body."
I wrapped my arms around his neck, "and that doesn't upset you."
He leaned down, "no it's not like he can have a piece. You're all mine."
I laughed and kissed him before moving away. I stretched and walked over to the bed. I flopped down on it and let out a sigh. I glanced up to see Ba Wei typing on his phone.
"Who are you texting?"
"No one," he said sitting his phone down.
"Hmm. I don't believe you."
He walked over to the bed and laid down beside me, "too bad. What do you want to eat baby?"
"I don't know, we can just order some noodles or something."
"Hmm okay."
I looked over at him, "what's with that answer."
"It's nothing. I just wanted to eat your cooking. It's been a while."
I couldn't help the smile that made its way into my face. He was really cute when he wanted to be. Come to think of it, I don't think he openly told me he wanted me to cook for him but once.
"I'll cook for you when we get back home."
"You mean back to my house?"
"Yeah you're not going to let me go any place else," I said with a chuckle.
He turned on his side and looked at me, "Ji Nan."
"Yeah?"
"How would you feel about us moving in together?"
"Don't we already do that?"
I was trying to keep my cool but inside I was squealing. I didn't think he'd bring this topic up to me since I couldn't bring myself to ask him. He seemed serious and ever so slightly his ears began to redden. So cute.
"Yes, but I mean us looking for a place to call our own. A place where it can just be us." I stared at him for a few seconds and he was about to talk again. Before he could I leaned up and kissed him.
"Of course I want to live together with you."
He let out a small chuckle, "I was scared you didn't want to."
"Why wouldn't I want to." I pulled him on top of me, "you're my forever aren't you."
"Of course. Should I get a ring," he said laughing. I clicked my tongue and moved a bit under him.
"Hmmm...maybe you should."
"I'll keep that in mind."
