Chapter One Hundred Seventy Two
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
The next day we woke up to a knock on the door. We both stirred a bit in our sleep before Ba Wei got up to get it. I was about to fall back asleep when Ba Wei shook me. I opened my eyes and immediately locked eyes with him.
"My fathers here so you gotta get up sadly." I sighed and glanced over his shoulder to see Ba Ming Chun.
I let out a sigh and sat up, "you couldn't come a bit later?"
"If I would have you wouldn't be able to be taken to the safe house now would you?"
"Huh?"
"Oh you're gonna let us stay there too," Ba Wei asked passing me a shirt.
"En. It'll be easier to keep a eye on all of you. By the way we've lost track of your mothers boyfriend. He's a slippery one."
"I'm surprised he's still around."
" Kang Wu informed me that your mother has been in the gang world in this city. I'm concerned that she has made a pact."
I got up from the bed and stretched. When I heard the word pact it peaked my interest and Ba Wei seemed to notice.
"A pact is more or less a contract. It's signed in blood and depending on what she wanted done they may ask her to pay with her money, body, or even her life," he explained.
"And if she did? What would be the issue?"
"Well, because I have intervened they may see it as disrespect."
I nodded, "if protecting my father will cause problems for you. I can do it myself. Like you said your resources won't always be there for me."
I was quite indifferent with him being here. I know I shouldn't take what Ba Ming Chun says to heart because he's right, but the fact that he said that to me is something I can't let go. it might just be my ego, but I want to show him that I don't need his help. Hell my father usually has round the clock bodyguards. Him not having them around is a new thing.
"I see you have misunderstood something."
"What have I misunderstood? You told me Ba Wei won't always be here to help me did you not?"
"I did but I told you that because of the continued circumstances that you've been involved in. He has a job in this family and because of you he hasn't been able to do them."
I scratched the back of my neck, "I get what your saying. Sorry for keeping him away from his duties."
I thought the man would keep talking but he didn't. Me and Ba Wei walked into the bathroom to brush our teeth and as soon as we made eye contact Ba Wei seemed to be apologizing through his.
I reached out and caressed the side of his face, "don't apologize. You don't have anything to apologize for."
"I just don't want you two not to get along."
I sighed, "we're getting along. I understand why he told me such a thing, so it's fine."
He didn't say anything and we just hurriedly brushed out teeth. I had began to brush my hair when he wrapped his arms around my waist. He pulled my body into his and ever so slightly my face turned red.
"This doesn't seem appropriate while you're fathers in the other room."
He kissed my neck, "don't be so vulgar. I just want to hold you."
He said that, but the way he was rubbing my lower waist said otherwise. I smirked and turned around in his arms. I leaned up and kissed him, "later okay?"
He smiled against my lips and pulled away. He cleared his throat and backed away from me. I grabbed his hand and we walked out the bathroom. Ba Ming Chun was on the phone when we walked back in the room. He wasn't saying anything but I could hear the other person talking. Ba Wei pulled me over to the door and we slipped it into our shoes. His father just followed suit and soon we left the hotel room.
Me and Ba Wei talked about nothing as we went to check out. I had glanced behind me multiple times to see what his father was doing but he was still on the phone. I hadn't heard him a utter word, but when I looked into his eyes I knew whatever was being told to him wasn't anything good.
"Do all his phone calls go like this?"
Ba Wei glanced back at his father, "no he usually only listens when one of his men call. He speaks to me and Kang Wu in a different manner than the people under him."
"That makes sense I guess, but he looks pissed."
Ba Wei laughed, "it's probably bad news."
I nodded in agreement and let him finish checking us out. The old man looked almost sad to see us leave. He always was really sweet to me no matter who I brought back. It makes me happy that he finally owns the hotel he worked so tirelessly at.
We left the hotel in silence. We climbed into the car, and to my surprise we were in a car by ourselves. Ba Ming Chun got into a car right in front of us. I was going to ask Ba Wei about it but we started to move and I watched as multiple cars pulled out in front of us and got behind us.
"Why are there so many cars?"
"It's a protection matter. You'd be surprised how many people In this city alone want my father dead so we usually do this to cause confusion. Plus he's probably going to send our car on a different route to get to the safe house."
"How long will that take?"
"I'm not sure actually. It depends on which route we take."
I nodded and laid my head on his shoulder. He grabbed my hand and started to rub the back of it. His touch was gentle and it made me feel safe. I knew what Ba Ming Chun was saying but it still didn't feel good. I didn't think I was distracting him so much because he never said anything about it. Was I really a burden?
"Ba Wei..."
"Hmm?"
"I don't like, burden you with all my problems do I?"
"Of course not. My father might think so but he understands."
"Understands? He basically told me that I'm keeping you from doing your job."
Ba Wei chuckled, "it's fine. He'll probably just give me a lot of tasks after this is over."
"Why not now?"
"He knows I'm not about to leave your side. He can bitch all he wants but if it was my mother he would be just as stubborn."
I couldn't help but chuckle, "I thought your parents were divorced."
"They're not legally divorced. Just separated. You'd be surprised just how much my mother has my father wrapped around her finger."
I thought back on Ba Wei's mother and I could believe it. She was a strong willed woman, and seeing how we met it made my face turn red.
"What are you blushing about?"
"Just thinking back on how I met your mother. Please tell me that I'll get to speak to her with pants on."
"Of course. I forgot about that. I'm surprised she didn't chew me out about it."
"Why would she?"
He glanced at me but didn't say anything. I cocked a eyebrow and asked the question again and got the same silent answer. Was he embarrassed or something? I was about to ask again when he began to speak.
"I don't think we should discuss this in a car with someone else present."
"Just tell me."
He scratched the back of his head, "Well she's seen worse, but she never really seen me with a guy so I expected her to like yell at me."
"We weren't together at that time anyway."
"Still. You were clothed in just my shirt. The implications were there."
"You wanted her to chew you out about it," I asked with a chuckle in my voice?
"Not necessarily. I'm just saying it's odd that she didn't."
I leaned in and kissed him, "maybe she knew I was here to stay?"
He pulled me back in and kissed me. As our lips met he said, "maybe."
