Chapter One Hundred Eighty Four
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
We stayed in that supply closet for the rest of lunch. I thought he would do something inappropriate but he only kissed me. Sure, he had left fresh hickeys but I didn't mind that much.
When we walked back to class the halls were mostly empty since we left a bit late. I caught multiple people staring at me or my neck. He did indeed leave hickeys, and not small ones.
"You had to leave them in such a visible place?"
"Why shouldn't I? I wanted to leave them where they could see them."
I didn't say anything and just sighed. We took a few more steps before we made it to my classroom.
"I gotta run to dad's before I come home. Will you be alright going to the supermarket by yourself?"
I nodded, "yeah I'll be fine. Why do you have to go home all of sudden?"
"I need to go grab some things. You can come if you want honestly. I can send someone to the supermarket for you?"
I shook my head, "no it's fine. I'll walk you out of school so don't just leave."
He smiled, "of course."
He gave me a quick kiss on the forehead before he left. I smiled and walked in to class.
---
When class ended Ba Wei was waiting at the door of my classroom. I had thought he would try to force me to go with him but he didn't. Instead he walked me half way to the market, and gave me the keys to the apartment. He gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and was on his way. I was surprised by this since he had been stuck to me so much lately. I was at the Market with a basket full of ingredients. I was making mapo tofu, but had decided to make some small side dishes also. Mostly vegetables to balance out the strong flavors of the tofu. I had just got finished paying when I got a phone call.
"Hey, is everything okay."
"Yeah. I have to take care of something. with Kang Wu, so I might make it home later than I wanted."
"Will you be home for dinner?"
It felt weird asking that, but I needed to know the answer to that.
"I don't know. I'm going to try to be home by eight or nine."
"Hmm, okay."
"Don't say it like that, and don't be mad."
"I'm not mad," I said as I rounded the corner to the apartment. "I just really wanted to have dinner together."
"I'll be there."
He didn't give me the chance to say anything and hung up the phone. I sighed and slid my phone back in my pocket and started to climb the stairs to the apartment. When I got inside I went straight to preparing dinner.
In all honesty, when he told me he might not make it for dinner it stung a bit. I couldn't really tell you why but the thought of us having a meal as lovers made me feel warm inside. He said he would be here in time so I'll hold him to it.
"Let's play some music and get started."
I pulled out my phone and played a random playlist and got to cooking. Soon the entire apartment smelled of food and I found myself in a very happy mood. I had just finished making the braised eggplant when I finally checked the time. It was a quarter til eight and I let out a calm sigh as I looked at the table.
"I'm sure he'll like it right," I asked aloud?
I didn't get time to ponder on it because the door opened. As me and Ba Wei's eyes met he smiled.
"Welcome home."
He slid off his shoes and walked over to me, "I told you I would make it." He leaned down and kissed me.
"En. Sit so we can have dinner then."
He laughed but sat down. I walked over to the. Cabinets and grabbed two glasses. I poured both of us some water and sat down beside Ba Wei. I thought he would wait for me to start eating but as soon as I sat down he began stuffing his mouth.
"This is amazing," he said with a full mouth.
I smiled and picked up my chopsticks and grabbed a piece of the eggplant and sat it in his bowl.
"Try that. It's my first time making that in a while." I watched as he bit into it and his eyebrows furrowed. "Is it not good?"
"No no, it tastes fine. I just don't like eggplant."
I laughed and picked the eggplant from his bowl, "then why didn't you just tell me that. You don't have to eat something you dislike."
I stuffed the eggplant into my mouth. I reached out and picked up some of the tofu and sat it in Ba Wei's bowl. He just ate it along with some rice. He seemed to like that a lot.
"So what did you and Kang Wu have to do?"
"He wanted me to go pick out a gift for my mom since her birthday is coming up."
"Oh, what did you get her, and when's her birthday?"
"I got her some perfume and it's next week. April 15th."
"Oh, you didn't tell me anything about that."
"It's not really important. She usually just goes on a vacation or some shit."
Ba Wei placed a piece of eggplant in my bowl along with some tofu and continued eating. I glanced at him then my bowl and let out a giggle drawing his attention.
"What?" His eyes were on me and I could feel my face heat up. "Why are you blushing?" I could hear the smile in his voice.
"It's nothing," I said clearing my throat, "it just feels like we're a family."
He didn't say anything so u just went back to eating. I didn't look in his direction but I could feel his eyes on me.
"Ji Nan," he called.
"Yeah?"
"It's not often I don't know what to say."
I glanced at him and laughed, "was what I said weird?"
"No. It was very cute actually. I don't know how to respond to it." I picked up a piece of tofu and stuffed it into his mouth.
"Eat a lot. That's the response I want."
He smiled and started back eating. We ate in comfortable silence. I couldn't help but smile at the atmosphere. We talked about nothing as we ate. Just light hearted things. It was refreshing to have a normal night.
"Ahhh I'm stuffed."
"Same. I ate way too much."
"You're the one who kept stuffing my mouth."
"You did the same to me Ba Wei.".
"You're the one that told me to eat. I can't eat by myself now could I."
I laughed and pushed him a bit, "I need to do these dishes."
"No, I'll do them. You can take a shower first."
"No you don't have to-"
"You made dinner at least let me clean up. It's the least your husband can do."
My face immediately turned red and I quickly got up and made my way to the bathroom. I closed the door and tried to calm my heart down. Why did him saying that rattle me so much? I clenched my shirt and bit my lip. He's trying to kill me saying things like that.
I pushed myself off the door and quickly stripped. I turned on the water and hopped in. I took a rather quick shower because the heat was making me a bit sleepy. Plus the full stomach wasn't helping. I shut off the water and wrapped a towel around my waist.
"Still washing dishes," I said a bit loud to Ba Wei?
"En. This is the last one." I walked up behind him and hugged him.
"Hurry. I'm tired."
"Go ahead and go get in bed. I still have to take a shower."
I nodded against his back and pulled away. I made my way to the bedroom and flopped down on the bed. As soon as my body hit that soft mattress all of my energy left. I didn't even feel like putting on any underwear. I turned over and curled up in the covers. They smelled like him and it made me relax even more. I shut my eyes and I was about to fall asleep when Ba Wei called out to me.
"Ji nan."
"Hmm," I answered tiredly?
"You'll catch a cold if you sleep like that."
I didn't have the energy to argue so I reached down and pulled off the towel and scooted up so I can get under the covers. I heard a laugh come from Ba Wei before he left the room. A few minutes passed before I heard him walk back in the room. I had forced myself to stay awake until he got in bed. He rustled around about before. I felt him slide in bed behind me. His arms went around me almost immediately.
He placed a kiss on my shoulder, "goodnight."
I smiled and drifted off to sleep finally.
