Chapter One Hundred Eighty Nine

Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)

Thank you so much for being patient with me. This chapter is finally done. I've been moving all the while having inventory at work. I didn't proofread this one so bear with me with the typos. Anyway. Enjoy loves ♥️

A few days had passed since the day that I talked to my mother. Everything had went back to normal. School was just as boring and me and Ba Wei were fine. Although I noticed that he was more attentive to me than before. It wasn't a bad thing at all, but sometimes it felt as if he was trying to build himself up to do something. I hadn't said anything to him about it but this morning while we were getting ready for school I noticed fresh bruises on him.

I didn't say anything about them because I knew he wouldn't tell me anything, but I still was worried. I was sitting in class just looking out the window thinking. I wonder what Ba Wei was up to right now. It was close to lunch and there truly was no telling. I let out a sigh and turned my attention back to the teacher. I couldn't tell you what she was talking about. My mind had been elsewhere the entire morning because of all the talk about who my father was.

I didn't really care all that much. That guy seemed proud of himself at first but when he saw me have no reaction he seemed more angry than anything else. I had to tell Ba Wei to leave him be when he found out he had told people. He's cute when he was being overprotective. A small smile spread across my lips as I thought about it. I want to see him.

A few more minutes passed before lunch started. I rose from my seat and tried to leave the room but was stopped by a guy from my class stepping in front of me.

"Yes," I questioned?

"It's not none of my business but is your father really Ji Guanting?"

"Yes, he is."

"Why did you not tell anyone? Are you ashamed to be going to school with normal people or something." The class had grown really quiet as he asked that question and I sighed.

"It wasn't something I thought I needed to tell to strangers. Now if you'll excuse me."

Without a second thought I walked around the guy and left. The halls were a bit crowded but strangely it didn't bother me all that much. I slowly made my way to the roof and as I started climbing the stairs I heard a familiar voice call out to me.

"You're usually already here when I arrive." I smiled and turned to look at Ba Wei who had a bag in hand.

"Got caught up in something, so I'm late just like you always are."

"That was a low blow. I have to get us food now don't I?"

I laughed and started climbing the stairs again. I held the door open for him and he clutched his chest like he was touched.

"You're such a dick I swear."

"You like that about me though."

We sat down by the railing and the first thing I noticed was bandaids all over his hands. Without hesitation I reached out and grabbed them. He seemed surprised but when he noticed what I was looking at he relaxed.

"Why are you hands all beat up? Have you been fighting?"

"No, I've just been working on something so injuries are to be expected."

"What are you working on that would injure your hands like this?"

He slapped my hands away, "don't worry so much. It's nothing. Here eat."

I didn't say anything and did exactly what he asked me to do. Eat. We sat in silence and just ate and I couldn't understand why he wouldn't tell me what he was doing. He had never been like this before. Is he getting hurt because of me ?

"Hey, would you be mad if I skipped the rest of the day?"

"Baby if you have to ask me that you already know the answer."

"It's for a good reason though."

I let out a laugh, "is that so? Care to share that good reason."

"I cannot sadly."

I narrowed my eyes, "since you asked me before just doing it, I guess I'll allow it." He smiled brightly and it honestly took my breath away. "Just don't stay out too long. I want to do the homework together."

"You say such cute things." He leaned over and kissed me. "I promise I'll be home before dinner."

"And if you aren't?"

He smirked, "I'll give you a sincere apology."

"What if that doesn't cut it?"

He kissed me again, "trust me it will."

——

When school ended I was in a good mood. Ba Wei left school right after lunch, and since then he's been keeping me updated. I was walking out of the school doors when I Saw Kang Wu leaned against his car. I raised a eyebrow but made my way over to him.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"Father sent me."

I cocked an eyebrow, "did he send you here for Ba Wei? He's not here if so."

"No he sent me for you," he said as he opened the door, "he wants to speak with you."

I nodded and climbed in. I say my bag down and quickly sent a message to Ba Wei.

Me: your father has summoned me apparently

It didn't take even a minute before he texted back and I knew what he would say before I even read it.

Ba Wei: huh? Why? Did he pick you up himself?

Me: no, he sent Kang Wu. You didn't know anything about it?

Me: no. Call me after you talk to him.

I sent a thumbs up and turned my attention to the window. The car ride was quiet. Too quiet even. Kang Wu seemed to think that too because I kept catching him glancing at me in the review mirror.

"Why do you keep glancing at me like that?"

"I thought you had fell asleep or something. Usually you talk more."

I let out a chuckle, "Ba Wei is usually here so it's easier to talk. I'm quite awkward on my own."

"Don't be. I'm no different than my dear old brother. You can relax around me."

"Okay, since you said that I have a question."

"Okay."

"Why do you call Ba Mingchun father? You're not blood related or anything?"

He was silent for a second, "well he raised me, so to me he is my father. I'm a bit older than Ba Wei but he's like a brother to me."

I nodded, "when I first met you you used to call Ba Wei young master. Why was that?"

"You were a new face. I'm a driver, I'm a professional setting it's what I'm supposed to call him. If I am in front of other gang bosses I have to call father with a honorific. It's just part of the job."

I nodded and tried to not ask anymore questions but I was too curious. I knew asking this question would make me seem weird but curiosity is a hell of a drug.

"Before me and Ba Wei started dating, did he talk about me?"

Kang Wu let out a laugh, " well yeah. It was the first time I heard him speak about someone so much. That's why I dug into you like that because I knew he liked you before he even did."

"You blackmailed me, not just looked into me."

"Technically it was both. I couldn't blackmail you without info now could I?"

I didn't say anything and turned my attention back out the window. That's when I noticed that we had pulled into Ba Weis fathers house. I took in a deep breath as the car came to a stop.

"Just walk in. He should be waiting for you."

I nodded and climbed out the car. I turned and told Kang Wu thanks for driving me. He pulled off not soon after and I made my way to the door. I was nervous I couldn't deny that. I had never talked to Ba Wei father by myself. I had always been with someone. He had never disrespected me, but Ba Wei had always told me that he had another side to him. Hopefully he just wants to speak to me about graduation or something.

I opened the door and immediately met by the smell of food. I cocked a eyebrow and removed my shoes. I sat my school bag down and slowly made my way towards the kitchen. He doesn't want to have dinner with me does he? That would be strange if he does.

"Hello," I called out. There was no answer so I just walked into the kitchen only to find it empty. The table was full of food so someone had to be here. I walked up to the counter to see that there was a note on it.

Turn around

Without another thought I turned around to see Ba Wei standing in the doorway of the kitchen.

"I know I shouldn't lie to you, but I didn't know how else to surprise me you."

"What is all this?"

"Well it's for you of course." He walked up to me and grabbed my hand, "do you like it?"

I nodded, "what is the occasion? I know it's not my birthday or anything."

"Well, I was hoping this day would create another memory."

"What do you-"

Before I could finish my sentence I looked over to see him pulling out a black box. My heart started to beat fast as I stared at it. Was he about to...

"I know we're young, and marriage is a big decision, but I meant it when I said you are my future."

"Ba Wei," I said as tears came to my eyes.

I watched as he opened the box to see a silver ring with one single diamond in the middle. My heart was beating out of my chest and I couldn't help the tears that had started to fall.

"This isn't the ring I'm giving you for marriage. This is a ring to show you that I'm serious about you. I love you Ji Nan, and I don't want to let you go."

He grabbed my hand and I watched as he slid the ring onto my ring finger. I couldn't explain the emotions that were going through my mind. I stared at his face to see what he was happy and that made me happy.

"Ji-" Before he could finish his sentence I hugged him. He didn't hesitate to hug me back. "Do you like it?" I leaned back and kissed him.

"I love it."
