Chapter Thirty
Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)
When classes ended the happy mood I was in had soured yet again. I would say that it was because of Yaling or anyone else, but it wasn't. It was because of me. I couldn't stay focused at all. I took notes and I worked out practice problems, but every time I would get halfway through them Ba Wei would oddly cross my mind. This caused me to have to restart multiple problems. By the end of all three of my classes I was just frustrated.
I stuffed my things down in my bag, and swung it over my shoulder. I glanced at my watch and started walking towards the door. When I walked down my isle I noticed that Yaling was still sitting in her seat. She was looking down at her phone. Maybe she's found a new boy to harass. A guy could only wish.
I walked out into the hall and made my way to room 205. The halls were mostly empty because it was Friday, and I couldn't say that I didn't appreciate that. I was about to push the door open to the tutoring room when I heard someone call my name. I looked behind me to see Ba Wei walking up.
"You're not early or late, but right on time. What a miracle this is."
"I know. I really am becoming a good student." I shook my head and pulled the door open. I walked inside and Ba Wei followed after. I put my bag down by the table and sat down.
"Did you take notes like I asked you too?"
He sat down beside me but didn't say anything. He unzipped his bag and started to take out his workbooks. I sat there quietly watching him, and he seemed to notice. He sighed and pulled out the notebook I had gave him. He handed it to me and I smirked.
"I didn't really know what to write down, so I wrote things I didn't understand down." I nodded and opened the notebook. As I glanced at the things he had written down I wanted to laugh. Was he really this far behind. Some of the things he wrote down were things we learned at the beginning of the year. I flipped through the pages until I reached blank paper.
"Your note taking isn't the best, but at least you took some." I pulled out a pen and started to make a diagram of how I take my notes. "Use this method next time. It'll make it easier for you to know what to write down." He only nodded and grabbed the notebook.
"What subject are we going over?"
"Science."
"Why science," he sighed out?
"We're both weak in that subject and we should practice it." He smacked his teeth but still put up the other workbooks.
"Let's just get this over with."
"I couldn't agree more."
I began going over the notes I had took, and he seemed very invested in learning the material. He even asked a question, and I could help but stutter as I answered him. I guess he was interested in this topic in physics. It amused me at how interested he seemed.
"Did you skip the first thirty minutes of your science class again?"
"Yeah, but it wasn't my doing this time." I closed my notes, and opened the workbook.
"Who's doing was it then?"
"My dads." I nodded my head and motioned for him to open his book. He followed my instruction and we proceeded to the homework. Although he was very interested in this topic, he didn't understand how to do the problems at all. I would do a problem and he would do one, but he would get it wrong. We went in circles like this for the entire tutoring session. I had worked out all the problems and he had worked out the ones I told him to. I was tired.
"Copy down my answers," I said as I looked at the clock. It was almost midnight. We had went over the time limit again.
"Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of you trying to teach me it."
"I'm giving you the right answers so you can try to do it on your own."
"That won't help me. How about you just come over this weekend." I looked over at him and raised an eyebrow. Was he being serious? The look on his face said that he was being completely serious.
"Why?"
"So you can teach me this until I understand it." I was dumbstruck. I couldn't wrap my mind around why this guy wanted me to come over his house to tutor him. It's not like he liked school work. I shifted my eyes, but I still reluctantly agreed.
"What time tomorrow?" I glanced over at him pushing his books into his bag.
"I don't know." He was quiet for a few minutes before he threw a question at me that I didn't expect. "If you want you can just come over tonight." I began stuffing my books into my bag, and as those words hit my ears I raised an eyebrow.
"Tonight," I asked confused?
"Yeah. It'll make things even."
"Even how?"
"Well, I've stayed over your house, but you haven't stayed over mine." Such a child.
I smiled, "I'll have to pick up a change of clothes."
He stood up, "it's already late. I'll give you something to wear." He started walking towards the door, and I just hummed a ok. "My fathers driver should be waiting outside for us." Driver? His father has a driver? I swung my bag over my shoulder and followed behind him. He opened the door and we walked out into the hall.
"Did you call him," I asked as we began walking to the exit.
"No, usually on Fridays my father sends him."
"Ah. My father used to do that before we moved," I said truthfully. Ba Wei didn't say anything to that comment and I took that as a sign that he didn't want to talk anymore.
We walked the rest of the way to the exit in silence, and when we finally opened the double doors we discovered that It was raining. It didn't surprise me seeing that it was cloudy earlier. We walked down the walkway until we reached the end. We would have to walk in the rain to reach the gates of the school.
"I should've brought my umbrella," I sighed as looked out at the pouring rain.
"It'll be alright. The cars right in front of the gates. If we run, we shouldn't get too wet."
I looked up at him, "alright. Let's go."Â We glanced at each other one last time before we struck out. We ran as fast as we could towards the car, but the rain was coming down so heavy that we still were getting soaked. Ba Wei opened the car door and I climbed in. He climbed in after me.
"Good evening young master," the driver said as he pulled off.
"Hey Kang Wu, sorry for making you wait." Ba Wei took off his uniform jacket and as he was doing it he looked at me. He pulled on my jacket and after being confused I finally realized that he wanted me to take it off.
"It's alright. It's my job to wait after all."
"Are you cold," Ba Wei asked?
"No," I replied truthfully, "I'm just a lot wet now."
"Same," he said chuckling. The small smile that was on his face fit very well with the look he had right now. His wet hair stuck to his forehead in strings and his nose and lips were a bit red. Cute.
"Young master, does your father know that you are bringing a visitor today."
"No, but he won't mind. This is Ji Nan." The driver looked at me through the review mirror. His eyes were sharp, and although we weren't making direct eye contact; I still couldn't look at their reflection too long.
"Hello, my name is Kang Wu. It's a pleasure to meet you." His voice was pleasing to the ear, but I couldn't really see his face due to the lack of light. I squinted my eyes, but still couldn't get a clear view. The one thing I did notice was the tattoos on his hands. That's interesting.
I forced a smile, "it's nice to meet you too."
