Chapter Thirty-Six

Let's Not Fall In Love(我们不要坠入爱河)

"Do you just only watch cartoons all day," I asked as I yawned? Since we took our break he had watched nothing but that, and it had been over an hour.

"No."

"Then why have we been watching them for an hour?"

He sighed, "I don't know what you like." His voice was cold, and for some reason it made me amused. I'm so use to hearing his playful tone that this one seems foreign to me.

"You could've asked me," I said chuckling. "Why did you even stay on this channel anyway?" He looked over at me for a moment and a small smirk appeared on his face.

"You didn't object so I thought you liked them." His deep voice felt smooth as that sentence hit my ears. It made my ears feel like they were on fire, and I don't know why.

I couldn't help but think that the sentence  I heard was quite cute. He had to be aware of how it sounded. There's no way he could say something like that unintentionally.

"I don't mind them, but watching them for an hour straight will wear anyone's patience thin."

"Okay okay. I got the message." He stated flipping through the channels again, and he settled on a basketball match. I glanced over at him to see that his eyes were glued to the TV. His hair was messily laying on his head, and his eyes were still a bit red from just waking up. I couldn't help but let my eyes scan his shirtless frame.

His dark hair fell somewhat in his face, but it didn't seem to bother him. He was sitting with his legs open and he was slumped over. If any elder saw him sitting like this he would be definitely be scolded. Maybe that would be some good for him. He needs some discipline in his life.

"So you like basketball." I asked?

"Yeah" He didn't look from the TV at all. I would say that he focused more on it.

"Can you play," I asked as I turned my attention towards the game? I couldn't say I knew what was happening with the game since I never played any sports. My father never forced me to, so I never participated.

"Yeah a bit. I haven't played since I was young." I nodded in agreement and stayed silent. It wouldn't be a surprise if he played sports seeing how well built and tall he is. I wonder what other sports he's played. "Can you play?"

I looked at him, and for some reason I felt embarrassed. I wasn't like I was ever ashamed of not being able to play, but in front of him it was.

"No," I admitted nervously. That caught all of his attention and he looked directly over to me.

"You're kidding..." My face began to heat up as I stayed silent, and Ba Wei started to laugh. "Damn. What did you play then?"

I pushed my hair behind my ear, "I didn't play anything." My voice was low and soft and I made sure not to look at the guy beside me. "I never felt the need to play anything."

"So you were just as much of a nerd as you are now?"

I laughed, "I wasn't anything like how I am now."

"How were you then?"

"Well I was more of a delinquent back then." I glanced over at him and our eyes met. He raised an eyebrow at me and he began to laugh.

"No way!"

"Yeah," I said laughing.

"You're telling me that you skipped class regularly once upon a time." His attention had fully turned to me. It seems that my past has peaked his interest just as it did everyone who knew about it.

"I barely went to class back then. I use to just skip with frie-"

I couldn't help but stop in the middle of that word. Friends...they weren't my friends. The most I would call them were other people who used me for what they wanted.

"Friends," Ba Wei said finishing my sentence for me. I looked over at him to see that his face was back cold yet his eyes held emotion.

"Yeah," I said clearing my throat, "I guess you could call them that."

I was expecting Ba Wei to say something else but he didn't and the room went into silence. I wish I could say it was comfortable, but it was anything but that. It was quite awkward and Ba Wei was just staring at the television. Did I say something wrong? Was I too awkward?

As we sat there in silence a million questions went through my head. Some good, some bad, some terrible. They all revolved around if he was upset with me. It was something about him being upset with me that made me surprisingly uneasy. Why do I care if he's upset with me or not? I've never cared before; why now?

"Do you wanna play," Ba Wei suddenly asked. He didn't glance my way as he spoke. His voice even colder than before.

"Play what?" The tone of my voice came off very rigid, and I couldn't tell you why. It just did for some reason.

"Basketball." He turned to me and our eyes met. I looked away and scratched the back of my neck.

"What part of 'I didn't play sports' don't you understand?"

He laughed, "I know you can't play-"

"Then why are you asking if I want to play, "I asked cutting him off? He had yet to stop looking at me and for that very reason my eyes were still on the floor.

"I plan on teaching you how to play." I turned my attention to him as that statement left his mouth.

"Uhh." I wanted to say something more than that but that was the only sound that came out. I felt nervous, very nervous for some reason and I don't know why. He switched off the TV and stood up.

"Come on, I'm not a bad teacher."

Hey beautiful people, I barley made my schedule but I promised that I'd update 2-5 days after a chapter. I've been really busy as of late. My birthday just passed and I'm still can't believe I made it to 19 years old honestly. I hope you enjoyed the chapter, but I do want you to help me make a decision. I'm currently going through designs for a new cover for this novel and I have a final product. I just want you to tell me if you'd prefer the new one or the one currently.
